Lord of the Rings/Hobbit: if you haven't read this, it's a must
Ender's Game (Ender Series/Shadow Sage): I delayed reading Endger's Game for some time after purchasing it and kicked myself for depriving myself of this awsome story
Iron Druid Chronicles: begins with Hounded and is wonderful. Imagine a 2000 year old druid who looks 21 and interacts with all the various pantheons--Celtic, Greek, Native American, Norse, etc. and has telepathic conversations with his Irish worlfhound who wants to be like Genghis Kahn and have a harem of French poodles. Love, love, love it!
Milennium Trilogy (begins with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo): not a fantasy but a really good story and super interesting character
Aubrey/Maturin series: I would have bet anything that rollicking naval battles in the early 1800's would never be my thing, but I would have lost the bet. This series is so much more!
Dragon Riders of Pern: includes the Harper Hall trilogy. It combines sci-fi with dragons--wonderful!
Temeraire: Aubrey/Maturin meets Dragon Riders of Pern. Later books in the series take a turn that doesn't please me, but the alternate history which has an air corps of dragons fighting against Napoleon's forces is brilliant.
Maisie Dobbs series: something completely different, it's a mystery series with an intuitive psychologist as a private investigator during the period after the first world war. I love Maisie.
Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus/Kane Chronicles: they may be teens but we adults like them too
Artemus Fowl series: beginning with a 12 year old criminal mastermind who interacts with faireis, centaurs, goblins, a tunneling dwarf and many more while finding time to evolve over the series.
I could reommend more, but these will do for a start
Ender's Game (Ender Series/Shadow Sage): I delayed reading Endger's Game for some time after purchasing it and kicked myself for depriving myself of this awsome story

The Mortal Instruments Series, and The Infernal Devices series, both by Cassandra Clare! I am IN LOVE! You should definitely read them! <3
The Last Apprentice series by Joseph Delaney. First book in series is 'Revenge of the Witch.
The Hunger Games are great to read after Harry Potter, it's a trilogy and it's really good!
1. The first book is called The Hunger Games
2. The second book is called Catching Fire
3. And the third and final book is called Mockingjay!
The Hunger Games is probably my second-favourite series to Harry Potter. :D

well the next big thing is The Hunger Games so I def recommend this series if you haven't already read it. If it's something in the same style of HP then I really enjoyed the Spook's Apprentice series. Also chaos Walking. People seem to love the House of Night, Vampire Diaries, uglies, and Darren Shan series also but I've never read these myself.

Reading the most books recommended here, i lose hope.
-The Hunger Games are Twilight #2 - there's something engrossing, but it goes downhills.
-The Uglies's main character is plain vain.
-The Games of Thrones is pure violence and immorality, without something to balance all this.
-Percy Jackson is nice, but it feels like it would be more suitable for 5th graders
-Naximum Ride(which i currently read) is nice as well, but it's more of a guilty pleasure, because it has a lot of plotholes, the story is really uncomplicated and predictable, etc.
-The Mortal Instruments is all about teenage love drama.
The only books I could wholeheartly recommend and hope you haven't read yet are "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Despite that the first is concidered a children's series, it holds kind of magic you won't find anywhere else and ene though the second is more of sci-fi, you'll laugh so much you won't regret a minute you spend on it.

I would highly recommend the Vampire Academy series, by Richelle Mead. It is wonderful. A really quick whats up on the series:
Two races of vampires walk our world. One, the Moroi, are alive and wield elemental magical. The other, the Strigoi, are undead and evil--feeding on the innocent to survive. Rose Hathaway--a half-vampire with poor impulse control--is training to be a bodyguard for a Moroi princess. Learning to decapitate and stake is hard enough, but Rose's real danger may lie in an illicit romance with one of her instructors...
This is the order:
#1 - Vampire Academy
#2 - Frostbite
#3 - Shadow Kiss
#4 - Blood Promise
#5 - Spirit Bound
#6- Last Sacrifice
Also, another series that caught me off guard, that I really enjoyed, was the "Iron Fey" series by Julie Kagawa. A quick what's up from the author's site:
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan’s life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she’s known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.
Order:
1. The Iron King
1.5 Winter’s Passage (the novella that takes place between The Iron King and The Iron Daughter)
2. The Iron Daughter
3. The Iron Queen
3.5 Summer’s Crossing (a novella that takes place between The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight)
4. The Iron Knight
I have not read the novellas, because I do not have an e-reader, but the series is captivating, and enthralling.
Also, to second what others have suggested, House of Night, Hunger Games, Mortal Instruments, etc. :)

The song of ice and fire collection. Starting with A Game of Thrones. I haven't been this hooked since Harry potter...
How about the Darren Shan series, about the vampire's assistant? Sorry, I can't remember the title of the series, but the first book is "A Living Nightmare".
I've read the first 2 or 3 books and quite enjoy them.

It all depends on your age and what your interested in!

Another good one is Eragon. It's a lot dryer and it's not nearly as well written but it has its own sort of appeal and personality. And it is the series that got me out of Harry Potter re-reads and into actually reading other books when I was about 15 or 16
edit add: Scott Westerfeld who wrote the Uglies (previously suggested) also did a more fantasy alternate history series (Uglies is more dystopic) called Leviathan which is excellent for personallity and detailed world-building. I highly recommend it.

The Children of the Red King by Jenny Nimmo is what I read when I finished Harry Potter. It's a little similar, but the story is a bit smaller than Harry Potter, only taking place in one city. Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landey is a good one, so are the Lost Years of Merlin, y T.A. Barron.
The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Name of the Wind, City of Bones...
I don't know exactly what books you like, but these are some I LOVED!

The Inquisitor's Apprentice by Chris Moriarty, about a 12-year-old New Yorker who discovers he can see magic, is like an American version of Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings J.R.R.Tolkien
Howl's Moving Castle Diana Wynne Jones
Percy Jackson Rick Riordan
The Demon King Cinda Williams Chima
The Worior Hier Chinda Willials Chima
The Legend of Drizzt R.A.Salvatore
Thease are all fantasy books so if you aren't into fantasy that much then I wouldn't read them but they are really good books.

percy jackson is good if you like harry potter. ones by jk rowling are Quidditch through the ages, and Fantastic beasts and where to find them. i love all of these and eragon is a really awesome series. be thankful cause i had to wait 4 YEARS for the end to come out!!
I would recommend Percy Jackson. All of the books are wonderful and they are set up very similar to Harry Potter except their is no magic, just the power of ancient Greek Gods. The first book is The Lightning Thief. If you finish that, there is a second series dealing with the same characters (more or less) called The Heroes of Olympus. The first one is The Lost Hero.
I recommend the hex hall series by rachel hawkins and the wings series by aprilynne pike
Stephen King's "Gunslinger" series of 7 books. It's a great read. Very metaphysical.
A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin -haven't finished it myself yet, still, it's totally awesome!
