Steve I read most of Hinton's books when I was in Jr. High. The were not assigned to me. I just picked up The Outsiders in the library and went on to read the others. I really enjoyed them at the time. I especially liked Rumblefish and I thought the movie was also stronger than The Outsiders.

Yea I read all of those too, sometime around 1970, which would mean I was 12 or 13.

Howard Syvarth It seems that this book has been a must read for school since dirt was almost new. I read it in 9th grade and and after all these years I can still remember the plot line.....

Kaida-lynn 7th grade all the way back in 2003. We also watched the movie

I do this book with my ESL students in Vancouver, Canada. It's a good book, not a great book!

Rhonda Bacon I did, and loved it; twas a life changing book...even better now. One of my all-time movie faves also (the guys are great to look at). Would you give your life to save a friend, stranger, brother? Thanks for the memory!

It's weird because a lot of people in grade 5,6 and 7 read The Outsiders, but I read it in 9th grade.

Yes, I thought it was pretty good. I think I would have liked it better though if I read it on my own, and not in school.

Dianna Winget We were assigned to read this in seventh grade. At first I had no desire to read about a bunch of boys. But it quickly became, and still is, one of my all time favorite books.

Yes I read 2 years ago in 5th gread for english, I loved it and cant stop thinking about for 2 years!!! It was amazing and so deep.

yeah :)..but i would also actually consider dally <3... he just sounds tough and he wasnt bad in the movie either :)

Maddison Parker My teacher assigned it to my whole class in seventh grade I was ahead of most of the class I think I was the the third one to finish it? Not to brag or anything......

Andrew i read this book for my 8th grade English class. i was actually at a book store today and almost bought a used copy of it and decided against it because (though i do think it is a well written book and the story is compelling) i- myself would not enjoy reading it again.
so i did not buy it.

Sosena Tilahun i would actually read it over and over again.. i fell in love with it.. good writing, strong characters, and an amazing/ touching message behind the whole story..
