Emma Mecham 8th grade. I liked it except all the drinking and smoking. I thought Darry was so rude and mean to him. I hated him the whole time during the book.

Atlantic Gem Had to read in 7th grade. Awsome book

Patricia Read it in 7th grade. One of my favourite ones that year along with The Giver and Where The Red Fern Grows.

MEEEEEE!

Sandra Balzo I read the Outsiders in high school, way back in the seventies. I loved it and couldn't believe it was written by someone my age. I never thought about it until now, but maybe that's when I got the writing bug.

Stella I read it very recently in my grade 7 class I did not like it at first but after reading it a second time I saw all of the amazing messages in the story

Victoria I read this while I was in grade 8. I was in a split class of grade sevens and eights and we got into groups and all read different books. I was the only girl in my group with three grade seven boys but I think the ways that we could all connect to it was interesting. We had to make a short play of the book when we finished it which was hilarious, but I love that book so much from start to finish. It made me feel so many deep emotions, and if a book can do that to me, no matter what the emotions are; I respect the author.

Yes I read this book in high school

Iunisi my english didn't read it for school but other classes at school did, i was jealous though!! i would have enjoyed the class. i still haven't seen the movie. is it good??

Yeah it's good, sticks pretty close to the book too. But of coarse the book is always better :)

Megan I read it of my own accord. It was a book I just came across, read the back cover, and thought it seemed like a possible worthwhile read. If I didn't like it, I would just put it down and forget about it. Little did I know that I would get hooked on reading The Outsiders. I don't read about gangs and social conflict and other similar subject matter, but this book changed my outlook on certain subjects. Not to mention, it definitely added flavor to my palette of book genres, which definitely needed a bit of a change-up. All I can say is - those who haven't read this, please give the book a chance. You never know if a story may touch you in a certain way. I know it definitely had a positive impact in my life. The only thing I regret about reading it is not reading it soon enough. I really connected with some of the characters. And I'll never forget to "stay gold".

Meghanne i did for grade 8

Ciera i did but i didnt read the last chapter bcz i lost interest in it

Maggie Me. :D
Probably one of the best books the school has ever made us read

Heather-Lea I loved it. We had to read it in school too (nearly 15 years ago) and I still love it. It went in my time capsule when our family did one for 10 years later.

Laura Morrigan My brother read this in high school. I think it was year 8 or 9. I don't think he was that into it, but I read it when he had it from school, and I loved it. (I'm 3 years younger so I would have been about 12, 13? But I feel like it was before I started high school, so 12, I think. I must admit that as a kid I was totally in love with Dallas Winston. I loved the movie, too, although it wasn't as good as the book. But it is by Coppola...

I think it's a stand out for the gritty realism of poverty and the streets which is way more common now, but less so, I believe, in the era when it was written. It really shows what life is like for 'the other half'.

Laura Morrigan Also I think it's amazing that it was such a great YA novel in a time when YA was far less prevalent than it is today. Apparently her writing helped shape the YA classification.

Clarizza In Middle school yeah

Chade My class had to read the Outsiders in English class. We finished it back in January. It was a pretty good book. I'm in seventh grade by the way.

Christopher Avalos I read it, and I liked it and the overall message.

Amanda Sailer I read this book for school I really enjoyed it, but was a bit inapropriate. I also saw the movie in school it was spot on from the book

message 85: by sam (new) - rated it 4 stars

sam yep read it in school

Grace We read it at school and had to do these characterization sheets, quite long. But the book was pretty good! We watched the movie after finishing the book and there's this girl that thought Dally was so hot that she cried when he died.

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ I read it in 7th grade. A lot better than some of the dumb things we had to read. The movie was horrible. Dally's death was comical. Sad.

Kaitie read it and watched it for school

Ksweetie MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I LOVED it!!!!!!!!

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

I read it in year 9, and didn't take too much liking to it.

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

The only interesting part was the end for me. I still liked it, however.

9th grade, freshman year of high school, though I had already read it.

Payton YEP;( 7th grade. And we listened to it on tape. It made the book suck!!!!!!!!!!!

Kristen I read this book in seventh grade and then we watched the movie. The ending was sad.

message 96: by Nat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nat I read it for school in grade 7! And then when we were done, we watched the movie. It was my first time seeing a movie made from a book that I had read, so it was pretty cool for me! lol
