I've been told I should watch the movie first before I read the book. Any thoughts?

I'd recommend you read the book and don't watch the movie at all. It was terrible!

I saw the movie first
But wouldn't advise it

I started reading the book then watched the movie and then finished to story. I wish I would have just read the book first because it would have been more magical that way

Depends... I read the book before the movie.. and this is one of the very rare instances wherein I loved the movie more than the book. The ending was way better I guess.

I read hte book years before the movie came out. I saw the movie and then re-read the book. I love the book more than the movie. The movie was good but I found it to be so different from the book. I almost take the book and movie as two separate stories. No matter is you read the boook first or see the movie you will see the differences immediately.

Jacquelyn But the book is so anticlimatic. At least in the movie there was some real action.

I always read the book before the movie (and I would usually suggest this) but in this cause, both the movie and the book are amazing but also very very different and I hardly ever think of them as the same thing, so I feel as you could do either and be happy. But you might as well just read the book first.

How "slightly sinister" is it? I'm afraid I only heard of the movie first, but if it appeals to the book sufficiently I might leave it at that. Frankly,if that means its at all dark or demented,I prefer a family show and don't think that kind of thing is ever "missing".

If anyone does,no problem not meaning to be rude of course. What exactly without spoilers would make the film less lighthearted?
