A Discovery of Witches

Who would you like to see play Matthew in the movie, if one were made?
I think Richard Armitage would be perfect as Matthew! He's mature, tall and straight and has the perfect pallor.
JAnet wrote: "@ Cindy...so in agreement !!!":) So many of the other suggestions are way to young looking for the Matthew I envision...
Carlie wrote: "Alex O'loughlin! Has always been my favorite Vampire. Right Age too!"I think he'd make a good Marcus!
I think Matthew needs to be European and Diana American..seems to me that's the way it was in the book...
JAnet wrote: "I think Matthew needs to be European and Diana American..seems to me that's the way it was in the book..."I agree, Janet.
JAnet wrote: "I think Matthew needs to be European and Diana American..seems to me that's the way it was in the book..."I agree ... that is exactly how the characters are portrayed in the book.
Benedict Cumberbatch (TV Sherlock Holmes)- tall, dark, handsome, can do scary and charming in one shot.
Unless they pick an unknown actor which I kind of like the idea of, if not I googled Matt Bomer and I definitely think he looks like a "Matthew".
I love Benedict and in fact just watched "The Last Enemy" again last night...I don't see him as Matthew, I see dark and stoic (my choice is Richard Armitage) but if anyone has read the second book as well, Benedict would make a great Gallowglass.
Got to be a guy who is tall and dark, with lots of "presence"-- also a bit weary from living through centuries of war, death, and disappointment-- yet a man still able to start new adventures, like his lab to analyze DNA of creatures. I thought of a young Daniel Day Lewis. Who would that be, I wonder.
Here, here, for Richard Armitage...tall, dark, mysterious, a brilliant actor...vampirish, regal...has it all.
@Cindy.....it goes without saying that I agree..plus I have seen him in so many different roles and he has been wonderful in all of them and they were all so different to play.I wouldn't mind seeing him do some yoga!
@ Janet...Oooh, yes, Richard Armitage doing yoga! What a wonderful image that is...I too have seen him in many roles, and all different. Versatile and handsome. I have been a big fan for a number of years.
@Cindy..I first saw him in Robin Hood and then watched everything else I could find that he was in...loved MI-5!
Sasha Roiz was born to be Matthew Clairmont. Mr. Roiz is 6'4", broad shouldered, grey-green eyes, dark hair, pale skin, speaks French fluently, moves oh so sensually, has a sophisticated old world intelligence about him, and oozes charisma. He currently plays Captain Reynard on Grimm. It must be him. Please Sasha - call your agent!

I totally agree. :)"
Oh, no, too short, too slight. Sasha Roiz it is.
I absolutely agree! He's not horribly young, not too old, dark and very handsome and has the beautiful head of hair. He is a lesser-known actor and would be gorgeous!Agb wrote: "GILLES MARINI!
Matthew is described as exceptionally good looking, tall, and French. And he's in a 37-year-old body.
Gilles is hot, tall, and he's actually French. And he's 36. By the time they..."
Meghan wrote: "Henry Cavill. Done and done."Way too young. He is 28. Matthew is 37. Cavill looks like a jock from his IMDB pic. Matthew has a sophisticated old world intelligence about him. Sasha Roiz it is.
JAnet wrote: "@Cindy..I first saw him in Robin Hood and then watched everything else I could find that he was in...loved MI-5!"@Janet, that's where I first saw him and that was it for me...he is wonderful...MI-5 was a terrific series. I had seen him prior to Robin Hood but they were bit parts and I didn't really get into HIM per se...Although American and living in the States, I am a definite Anglo-phile when it comes to movies and TV.
Cindy wrote: "If you all want French, how about Olivier Martinez?"His build is too slight. I still say Sasha Roiz - see my post #382 about him (he was raised in Montreal and is fluent).
@ Cindy...I also live in the States..my heritage is British and felt very at home when I was in England. I loved Richard in The Vicar of Dibley....love all BBC TV!
@ Janet...where in the States do you live? My heritage is British and Irish..I have a cousin in Solihull(Birmingham area)that I am close to. We always watch BBC and my hubby has been able to stream BBC, not BBC America, so I am happy.
@ Cindy....Massachusetts.....just discovered I get BBC on Comcast....can't wait for Downton Abbey to begin....
LIAM NEESON....there is no other for this role...he's got the body and the looks...he's got the vibe....he's got the soul and after all there is that Irish thing....too old? nope I don't think so...seriously he is Matthew!
@Janet-ah, we are across the country in Washington. Yay for you. I love BBC. I find that BBC America doesn't always show the whole of a series. Isn't Downton Abbey the best? I see that Shirley MacLaine is going to be in it.
Rosamund Pike or Miranda Otto would make amazing Dianas. I can't seem to place Matthew from amongst the actor crowd. He needs some serious heat and gravitas.
Kacie wrote: "Rosamund Pike or Miranda Otto would make amazing Dianas. I can't seem to place Matthew from amongst the actor crowd. He needs some serious heat and gravitas."@Kacie-
I can see Rosamund Pike looks, but Miranda Otto not so much...I like Naomi Watts but she is Australian and it should be an American I think.
How about Jason Momoa...though he would need a long shower and a haircut, and he may be a bit too "beefy". So fun reading everyone's suggestions and impressions of what Matthew would look like. My Matthew had very dark eyes but I do like the Henry Cavill idea.
Having read all the new proposals for Matthew, I still can only see Richard Armitage in this part. Sasha Roiz' looks are ok (though he should stay out of the sun for some time) but I have seen him several times, e.g. House, Day after tomorrow, but he didn't leave a lasting impression with me. Matthew must have something dark, brooding mixed with unbelievable attractivity - and that's Richard Armitage without any doubt. As to Diana I could imagine Rosamund Pike. She's tall and can do the athletic part as well (remember James Bond?). Mirando Otto is not as tall and unfortunately a bit too old (though she doesn't look it).

He plays a brooding conflicted yet charismatic Prince of some kind of darkness. He just has this magnetic pull on you in this role. Always in a suit with a long dark overcoat. You should check it out. Although I do like Mr. Armitage, I can only see Sasha Roiz here.
@Raven- Yay, I agree. @Kate-Sasha Roiz is wonderful in Grimm, I am a faithful watcher...however he just doesn't seem "vampirish" to me. But that is just my opinion. His eyes are too light and hair too curly maybe...not sure what it is. He is good looking but I am for Armitage's dark good looks. I like Rosamund Pike's looks as well, however Diana is American so....
@Raven- If you have read "Shadow of Night", I believe Sasha Roiz would make a terrific Philippe, should they make a movie out of the second book. He seems older and wiser.
Cindy wrote: "@Raven- If you have read "Shadow of Night", I believe Sasha Roiz would make a terrific Philippe, should they make a movie out of the second book. Nevertheless, in my mind Philippe is the lion type with lots of dark blond hair :) .

True, Philippe is described as the Lion of the family...but it could work. I do like Sasha's maturity. Hope you like Grimm. It is very different. I started watching because we live close to Portland and 2 of our kids live there...that's where it is filmed.
Have a good weekend.

And although I never heard of Brit Marling before, the moment I saw her picture on IMDB I thought "that's Diana.
