I agree about Interview with a Vampire...they picked too well known actors for the box office and they really didn't fit the parts they played in my opinion.

message 752: by Coryc (new)

Coryc Benedict Cumberbatch could certainly pull it off, but I hope he has enough sense to decline. He does speak French, by the way.

Luna Leadblade Jill wrote: "How about Joe Manganiello? ...or Eddie Cibrian? :-)"

OMG, Joe Manganiello... *swoon*

message 755: by Julie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julie I know he's American, but Joe Manganiello looks the closest to what I envision Matthew to look like. I tried to add a picture, but don't see an upload button.
I would so love to see this series made into a movie!

message 756: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy I'm still going with Richard Armitage!

message 757: by Julie (last edited Sep 09, 2014 03:47PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julie Well, there's always Gerard Butler!! Or Jonathan Rhys Meyers, but I still prefer Joe Manganiello!

message 758: by Raven (new) - rated it 5 stars

Raven I'm supporting the Richard Armitage fraction. He's perfect for Matthew. Gerard Butler would be ideal as Gallowglass!

message 759: by Julie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Julie Yes, I agree! I could see Gerard Butler as Gallowglass!

message 760: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy I sort of see Alexander Skarsgard as Gallowglass, mainly because he physically fits...very very tall and blonde. I can picture him saying "auntie" (if you've read the rest of the series). I picture Alan Cummings as Hamish ( who is small and very Scots). Gerard Butler would play a good Fernando from The Book of Life.

message 761: by Codi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Codi Harshman I dont know who this is but I think he fits Matthews character perfectly. Wish I knew who he is.

Shannon Burke Gerard Butler is one that comes to mind, he is such an amazing actor, and I tend to drool at the sight of him. Hubby seems to think that if he is on TV...that the TV needs a tongue guard :P LOL

Heather Richard Armitage all the way :)

Heather Stephanie wrote: "Yeah, I agree as well, Richard Armitage does look just like how I pictured Matthew too. Funny. Never heard of the actor though, is he good?"

He's excellent. Check him out in BBC's "North and South" adaptation. I think he would be incredible :)

message 765: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy Richard Armitage embodies Matthew!

message 766: by Pan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Pan Richard Armitage...ABSOLUTELY!

message 767: by Raven (new) - rated it 5 stars

Raven Deborah Harkness must have thought of Richard Armitage, too, when writing the Book of Life! Matthew plays cello! :-)

Cindy Raven wrote: "Deborah Harkness must have thought of Richard Armitage, too, when writing the Book of Life! Matthew plays cello! :-)"

Well, there you go! I'm all in favor!

Carrie-Anne O'Driscoll I'd like to see Timothy Olyphant as Matthew. Possibly even Robert Downey Jr. Both would fit nicely.

Theresa I kept picturing a younger Daniel Day-Lewis. Handsome, charming, enigmatic, a little bit spooky.

message 771: by Xan (new)

Xan Rubey Obviously Benedict Cumberbatch is Matthew. Karen Gillan is Diana. Charlize Theron is Mathew's mom (she's his age or younger).

Theresa I agree that Charlize Theron would make a good Isabeau.

message 773: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy Two words, Richard Armitage!

Barb ~coffee & book addict~ Angie D wrote: "Alex O'Loughlin

Oooooh I think he's a keeper!

message 775: by James (new) - rated it 5 stars

James Abraham I like the idea of a movie based on this book. If it could be better than the book that would be the only reason to make it.

Annie M I think only Michael Fassbender could pull off that pale intensity that is Matthew Clairmont. Question is, really, who to play Diana Bishop?

message 777: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Whelan Guys.....Tom Hiddleston

message 778: by JP (new) - rated it 5 stars

JP Henry Cavill was my first choice, but I think Matt Bomer would be a nice second choice.

message 779: by Raven (new) - rated it 5 stars

Raven Tall, dark haired and brooding = Richard Armitage

message 780: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy Raven wrote: "Tall, dark haired and brooding = Richard Armitage"

Esactly, the one and only!

Licienne Sodano I was thinking Richard Armitage or even Joseph Fiennes would be wonderful at Matthew

Cindy Licienne wrote: "I was thinking Richard Armitage or even Joseph Fiennes would be wonderful at Matthew"

Yep, exactly so, Richard Armitage!

message 783: by Jacqueline (last edited Dec 13, 2014 11:19AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jacqueline Several good suggestions (a young Pierce Bronsan is my pick, or Pierce himself - after all, Cary Grant played leading men well into his 50s and Matthew is an older Vampire). I think Richard Armitage is my favorite in the list (sorry Barrowman), and *The Hobbit* movies have wrapped, so it could work. Christian Bale is another good possibly - and he is Welsh, not American, tho' he often plays American characters.
For Diana I'm thinking Nicole Kidman (assuming she can handle an Massachusetts accent), other possiblities - Jennifer Morrison (if she looks OK as a redhead), Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives), Jennifer Lawrence (if she's available after The Hunger Games), Emma Watson.
With both Diana and Matthew I think it's important NOT to cast too young. Matthew's a 900+ year old Vampire - he should have gravitas. Diana's a Yale professor - a teenager would NOT be convincing, imo.
Sarah and Emily - One could easily be Penelope Wilton (Doctor Who, Downton Abbey); the other Dame Judy Dench.
Marcus - some of the younger actors mentioned above, imo, would be better as Marcus.
Matthew's Mother - A classically trained French actress!

message 784: by Karen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Karen The entire time I was reading 'A Discovery of Witches' (I just finished it), I could not picture anyone else portraying Matthew except Tom Mison! It must be Tom Mison! He is the man that portrays Ichabod Crane in 'Sleepy Hollow'.

I imagine this guy for Marcus.

Corinne Jill wrote: "How about Joe Manganiello? ...or Eddie Cibrian? :-)"

I could see Joe Manganiello as Gallowglass. Big guy, has to play the heavy quite often. He'd be excellent.

Although Joe Manganiello is an excellent actor, Gallowglass is described as Nordic, blonde, blue eyed, tall. Manganiello is dark and brooding. Alexander Skarsgard could get away with the looks and he is use to playing a vampire. Just an opinion.

Licienne Sodano ohhhh k.....just watched The Holiday and OH MY found the perfect Matthew....Rufus Frederick Swell.....!

message 789: by PinkPepper (last edited Jan 19, 2015 03:51PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

PinkPepper I totally saw the whole time Daniel Gillies playing the part of Matthew de Clairmont

message 790: by Corinne (new)

Corinne Spangler yeah I could see Henry C. (superman) as Matthew. However Matthew is supposed to be a really big guy which of course brought to mind Joe Manganiello, huba huba, he looks like he could carry the weight of plate-male.

Stephanie Daniel Gillies, yes I could definitely see him!! Good choice!

message 792: by Katie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Katie Totally Xavier Samuel. About the right age, and maybe with a different hair color...

message 793: by Estella (new)
