A Discovery of Witches
discussion
Who would you like to see play Matthew in the movie, if one were made?
I think I;m open to who they cast as Diana as long as it's NOT Scarlett Johanson!! She is used way too much!
I think I am realizing that I would love whomever casts the James Bond movies cast the actors for A Discovery of Witches - especially since the women they cast for those movies are beautiful in an uncommon way. And the men they cast are the same. And I also realize that I usually don't like any movie made from a favorite book. Though I would like to suggest Anne Hathaway as a possible Diana. Her face is so much more interesting than other women with the button nose problem. (In both books Diana discusses her "too long for her face" nose, not possible for Scarlett Johanson's button nose.)
I know he's played a vampire but Ian Somerhalder fit's for Matthew. I think Chris Hemsworth would fit for Hamish.

I have now decided on Richard Armitage to be Matthew. Too many good parallels for him not to be cast.
Chris Hemsworth who I immediately saw for Christian Grey...not for Mathew. Though his brother on the other hand would be good if he were older.

The actors who play the male vampires in this movie will have to be large in physique and personna.....
I am thinking Jason Momoa, Lenny Kravitz or maybe the actors that played the predator roles.....oh, and they have to be good kissers.....there is a lot of display of underlying passion and protectiveness in this book.....
Angie wrote: "I am thinking Jason Momoa, Lenny Kravitz or maybe the actors that played the predator roles.....oh, and they have to be good kissers.....there is a lot of display of underlying passion and protecti..."I like the way you think, Angie. I'd love to see Lenny Kravitz play Matthew. I loooove him as Cinna in The Hunger Games. The way he can convey so much emotion with just his eyes...and if Lenny doesn't have just about the most kissable lips on the planet then I don't know what.

richard armitage would be good. i think he can handle the deep emotions, quick to action or anger, etc. also he's done period pieces and would be good with the changes from current day to the places they go in the past.
I agree, Kim. If you have seen him as Guy of Gisbourne in Robin Hood, Lucas North in Spooks and now as Thorin Oakenshield - a nearly 1,90 m dwarf ;) - you know that he can portray everything and anyone. And, he has never been a vampire before, so it might be interesting for him, too.
All good choices. When I read the story, I couldn't think of anyone until I reached the end and thought "who could play someone so devastatingly handsome that you walk into walls when you see him?" My vote would be Henry Cavill (if anyone saw the movie, The Immortals - it wasn't great but he was wonderful in it).
Anne wrote: "It has to be Michael Fassbender. That's all I could think while I was reading the book. He'd be perfect."I believe I read somewhere that this book is already being made into a movie...
I think Sam Witwer would make a great Matthew!! He can play around with character emotions in a phenomenal way.
Luke Evans 100%. Everything about him screams Matthew to me. It's immediately who I pictured when I started reading the book
For me both Henry Cavill and Luke Evans are too young and Luke Evans is a bit too small (though both are really yummy ;) ). I'm still the Richard Armitage supporter.
I agree that Henry Cavill is too young (but still oh so yummy!), but Luke Evans is in his mid thirties, which is the age Matthew is supposed to look, so I'm sticking by that one :-)
I'm still Sam Witwer all the way. Every time I see him on Being Human (he plays a vamp named Aiden) I picture Matthew. Plus, I think Henry Cavill, as hot as he is, is too pretty boy looking. Richard Armitage I'm still deciding.
I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and agree with those who said Jim Caviezel. But I could totally see Henry Cavill in the role as well...
I would slike to see Matthew MacFadyen in this part. I loved him as Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice. He adapted in that part as someone very serious to becoming a lightherted man after falling in love. That's kind of how I see the character of Matthew.

I hate to admit it but he's not quite like I remembered him. Thanks for the hesds-up.
hmm...what about Richard Armitage? I know we're talking ageless but he just needs to be somewhere involved...he could play Matthew's brother?

Deb Harkness has a strict policy on not commenting on potential casting at all. She certainly never said Richard Armitage would be too old for Matthew. She maintains strict neutrality.
Jenny wrote: "My vote would go to Richard Armitage. I still can't pick a Diana but I think an unknown might be the best option."Yes, Richard Armitage. he is awesome
I totally agree on Richard Armitage. He's exactly how I pictured Matthew. Or possibly the guy who was on Silent Witness til last season.
I hadn't known there was a fan campaign! Anyway, I remain hopeful that since the Hobbit was co-produced by Warner Bros. there's a good chance that Armitage will be cast..The movie did ok with him in it :).
There is a fan campaign! They are trying to build support prior to making bigger action moves so go like them on Facebook! It'll help them. :) www.facebook.com/Armitage4Clairmont. The more "likes" the easier they are to find for people searching for something like this.
My dream cast for A Discovery of Witches is:Matthew Clairmont - Rob James-Collier
Diana Bishop - Sophia Myles
Miriam - Audrey Tattou
Marcus - Jonny Weston
Ysabeau - MyAnna Buring
Hamish - Jo Weil
Peter Knox - Mads Mikkelsen
Anne wrote: "It has to be Michael Fassbender. That's all I could think while I was reading the book. He'd be perfect."That is literally the best match EVER ^_^
I agree with those who think an unknown should play Diana. I can't see anyone specific for her when I read it. I still stand by Luke Evans for Matthew. As for the rest of my dream cast:Ysabeau: Michelle Pfeiffer
Hamish: Tom Hardy
Marcus: Chase Crawford
Miriam: Selma Blair
Sarah: Susan Sarandon
Em: Meryl Streep
I had quite the all star cast going on in my head as I read the book lol
All if the above sound good but I've just been on the Internet and was looking about and came across an actor who played mr darcy in lost in Austen it was a tv series's a remember watching it and thinking omg when the actor ( (Elliot Cowen) came out of the water WOW he played a really good brooding mr darcy and he is I candy in deed !!! :-)
Also think maybe Gemma artlenton could be good for dina she got a really sweet face but she no pushover ? :-)
