Which District are you from? How well did you like the series? Have you read all the books? Do you plan on going to see the movie?

Adriana How do you figure out which district you are from?

Well which district would you want to be from?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read all three books. I really liked the first two, but I thought Mockingjay was a horrible ending for a great series. It's been a while since I read the books, so I don't remember what each district does. I definitely plan on seeing the movie (not on opening day because I hate crowds).

Yeah the ending was so lacking in emotion. You'd think after all that there would be some kind of release of emotion. I left me to wonder if there was something left to Kat's story, but at the same time I knew it was over.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

It was very anti-climatic.

Adriana Valencia wrote: "Well which district would you want to be from?"

Probably the Lumber District. I think it's called.

Adriana I liked the ending...

Mokingjay was kind of cold I guess you could say at the end. Like there was little to no love or warmth in her words.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Too many of my favorite characters are gone. :( And some of their deaths seemed unecessary.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

^My favorite character in the entire series!! I'm suprised that I didn't put the book down after that.

Adriana It was stupid to kill them off. Why?! Was one of my favorites.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

And (view spoiler) I just about cried.

Adriana After that how Katniss reacted to it got to me even more.

Adriana "I raise my left arm and twist my neck down to rip off the pill on my sleeve. Instead my teeth sink into flesh. I yank my head back in confusion to find myself looking into Peeta’s eyes, only now they hold my gaze. Blood runs from the teeth marks on the hand he clamped over my nightlock.

“Let me go!” I snarl at him, trying to wrest my arm from his grasp.

“I can’t,” he says."

That was when I knew I really loved Peeta!!!! Now that is love.

OMG!! Me too I didn't think that was necessary that was the reason for Kat being in the games in the first place!!!!!!!

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

It seems like the series shouldn't have even happened if (view spoiler).

Exactly!! I felt like the author was detached at the end of Mockingjay the emotions just weren't right.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Katniss was supposed to feel victorious, but mostly she was just numb and emotionless, and ultimately ended up kinda depressed. She was such a strong character, then to have her lose that strength in Mockingjay was just disappointing.

Very much so!!!! She didn't even consider trying to live her life in the memory of all those who died. It hurt to see her like that.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I wonder how Mockingjay will be handled as a movie....

Karina I love the series. The ending left me so sad I couldn't stop think about it for days. At first I was a little disappointed but then I reminded myself, No matter how much everyone wants that perfect happy ending, it can't always be that way. And maybe it was the fact that the author did not do as everyone expected that made me like the ending a little. Plus I thought it was a realistic ending, I mean with everything that was happening not everyone could have made it out alive and after all that she went through you can't really expect Katniss to end up okay.

That's a different way to think about it. I like that the author could have done it that way becuase it was unexpected, but it still felt really detached. She was very detached in the beginning of Mockingjay and to be honest throughout the entire book, but the ending still felt empty like there was suppose to be more...

Karina Yes I agree about the ending feeling as if there should have been more but only because it left unanswered questions about her mom leaving and Gale no longer being a part of her life. I felt that Katniss was a little detached because it was showing how everything was affecting her and the toll it was taking on her. I guess in the end she ended up like Annie which is why I had no problem with the ending. You can't face everything they went through from the games to torture and loss and come out unscarred. Plus I liked that Collins showed us the ugly/twisted side of what the human race is capable of and what our world can become. But we all have our own opinion and I respect yours :)

Karina Hahaha awesome!

I almost cried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adriana ALMOST!? You have a lot of self control.

Karina I was really disappointed in the movie but I did cry when Rue died

Adriana I really liked it. Not as great as the books but on it's own I still loved it.

I'm pretty angry that people posted that they couldn't believe Rue was black and they didn't cry because of that. One: 21st century. Two apparently you didn't read the book because it said she had dark skin. -____-

I SAW THOSE POSTS!!!! That is why I can't stand ignorant people! Skin color/Race does not effect quality! I'm sorry you're a cold hearted bastard if you don't watch or dislike the movie becuase Rue is black. We won't make it in a dystopian world. Please!!!! That is utterly ridiculous and people really need to open their eyes and see what really matters *Ok rant over*

Very much so.....I'm just glad that little girl isn't letting them bring her down.

Yeah (:

Gabrielle (gabshi) Hunger Games & Catching Fire are amazing! I think I would be from District 11, Rue's district. Idk! I like plant-life for some reason. ;) I love Rue! why did she have to die??????? The movie is great and Snow is perfect. Can't wait for CF!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 304 comments Mod
I agree completely Gabrielle!!! Poor Rue, so sad :( I loved the movie too, pretty well done considering how hard it is to make a movie based on a popular book. I was satisfied anyway. Not perfect but pretty good :)

Yea the movie was amazing! I think the next one comes out in 2014.

Danielle (meimei42) So just my two cents on the series.

I loved them. I mean I loooooved them. I couldn't believe someone had written something so dark, but for the young adult audience. I ate them right up.

That said, I think there are some things that fall flat. I thought all the hoopla surrounding the games--the dresses and interviews--was just too much. Going on the show like game show contestants was just kind of sick and I felt like even after 74 years there would be more protest. Even if you think you have no chance of winning the games, or maybe because you have no chance, you would think that someone would be more overt in their protest. They're about the die, why not go out with a bang?

And because there is that chance of humanizing the tributes, I don't know as I think the capitol would treat them like reality show stars. Snow has issue with power and subversion. Why give them a chance to say something that might sway the masses?

I think that is where the book lacks depth.

Once we get in the games, I really do believe that the fight or flight instinct would kick in. That kids would kill each other to survive and that people would watch. Think of the gladiators. Anytime an emperor was having a tough time politically they just put on a game to appease the masses. There is something to be said about humans enjoying slaughter. When people were executed in medieval times, there were always audiences. Its a sickness in humanity that Suzanne Collins really captured well.

Gabrielle (gabshi) First movie = amazingly good, seeing as it was made from a popular book, movie #2 comes November 22, 2013!!!!

Gabrielle (gabshi) And Jena Malone as Johanna Mason??????

Becca (beccatheawesomeone) | 146 comments District 12! I am positive. How else would I have gotten my District 12 socks? I always wear them with my flaming Mockingjay pin shirt (I wish it was the book Mockingjay pin, but its not)

Sophie | 46 comments At my school, I was the one who discovered the real life mockingjay pin, so I'd have to say district 12, even though I'd prefer district 4 (I luv Finnick!). Plus I actually took a quiz and it told me I was katniss. I loved the series sooooo much and I thought that the movie was actually quite a good replica.

Sophie | 46 comments Me and one of my friends were reading the hunger games and we loved it so much we read during lunchtime. At that time I was reading book 2 and she was reading book 3. Halfway through she started balling her eyes about someone dieing and I'm like, DON'T TELL! DONT TELL!
