Hello lovely librarians!

I've got a slightly hairy one for you...

I'm just in the process of reviewing A Spoonful Of Murder (a lovely cosy mystery, by the way!), and I think there are some problems with author attribution. Having delved deeper into the publisher's info, the J.M. Hall who wrote this book and another, A Pen Dipped in Poison, is not the same J.M. Hall listed on Goodreads to whom both books have been attributed.

Could you possibly create a new author ID for this J.M. Hall (his first name is Jonathan, but not the Jonathan M. Hall already listed). HarperCollins have his biographical information as:

"J.M. Hall is an author, playwright and deputy head of a primary school. His plays have been produced in theatres across the UK as well as for radio, the most recent being Trust, starring Julie Hesmondhalgh on BBC Radio 4. His first novel, A Spoonful of Murder, is about retired primary school teachers who turn to sleuthing."

He's clearly not the 20-something PR exec from Philadelphia referred to in the current author link. I also don't think that the 20-something is the author of another title credited to him, The Beginning of Tulsa, which the author states is "for my children and grandchildren" (and nor is this J.M. Hall the author of A Spoonful Of Murder).

If one of you could help sort out this tangle, I'd be most grateful, as would the author and publisher, I'm sure, as the book is released today!

I've done that Sarah - the only thing I can't see on HarperCollins site is where he's from. Whether he was born in the UK...

The book, A Pen Dipped in Poison, isn't published until 16th March 2023..

I'm pretty sure that he is from the UK, as I'm currently listening to an interview with him about the book, and he has a Yorkshire accent. Will try to find further info. In any case, I'll let the publishers know via comments when I post my review to NetGalley, so perhaps they'll update it accordingly.

Em Jay, just saw this, and in case you haven't had any success in finding out why you couldn't search your book at the time, thought I'd better post.

Some actions in the back end of the editing process are heavily cached, and can take a couple of days to sort themselves out. If something doesn't update within about 10 minutes, like the author profile page, you need to wait at least 2 days.

I have the books in front of me and both have different page numbers. They have the same ISBN. Can they be changed, when two publishers don't seem to know their books page number? It's really annoying me 🙃

Of course Clare, what are the page counts? It's usually a case of 'guess work' prior to the book being published, then everyone forgets it has to be changed ;)

A query: Are annotated versions of books meant to be listed separately or grouped together with the book that's being annotated?
For example, I wanted to read reviews of David M. Shapard's annotated Jane Austen books. His versions are just listed as other editions, so it's virtually impossible to get info specific to his work.

Annotated versions are combined with the other editions. They should be listed as annotated though :)

That is the isbn for the Hardcover edition. A&U haven't listed a paperback yet, publishers usually publish paperbacks 6 to 12 months after the hardcover & ebook editions.
