message 1903: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Would someone please be able to add this blurb:
"A group of friends, a few bottles of wine and a good book. What could be better? The women who form the Reading Group are as varied as the books they choose to read. But each has secret hopes and fears - for a new lover; a straying husband; an ailing mother; a tearaway teenager. Can they find the answers to life's problems in the pages of a good book?"

Done Kathryn :)

message 1905: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Thanks, Brenda! I almost can't understand why people bother to create a book in GR in the first place if they aren't going to include any information that indicates what it's about!

Jenny (diggensjenny) | 955 comments Can someone help me with

Pines (Wayward Pines, #1) by Blake Crouch Pines by Blake Crouch

It keeps telling me I have read this book five times with different edition. I have gone through and deleted each review. Not changing!

It also looks like there is a problem with two of the records. Duplicate??

I will appreciate your help in this matter.

I think this is a known bug, they are working on fixing. If you check out the Feedback Group, I'm sure there is a couple of discussions with people with a similar problem

message 1915: by Peter (new)

Peter | 36 comments I marked ISDN 9780718183004 (The Secret Diary Of Hendrik Groen, 83 1/4 Years Old) as read, but when I view my read books, it shows the original Dutch version. Is there a way to fix that, please?

message 1916: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79996 comments Mod
Someone else must have fixed it Peter as when I searched for your ISBN it came up in English :)

The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old

The only thing I can think of is when you view it, you're viewing the original which will always show first - you need to check "other editions" for the one you read..

It showed in English when I searched it too, but after I'd marked it read, it was showing in Dutch in my books, with a Dutch description and Englsh reviews when I opened it.

It's fixed now I've adjusted the edition. I had to use a web browser. I've been using the app, and didn't even know there was an option for that. Thanks.

Peter | 36 comments Is this the right place to get a book added to Goodreads?

ISBN 9780340034538, Lemon Kelly Digs Deep by EW Hildick. I see lots of his other books on here, but not that one.

Peter | 36 comments Thanks, Brenda. Is this the way it's normally done - I supply the ISBN, you do all the work? Is it helpful if I google it to get more information?

message 1927: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79996 comments Mod
What you've done is fine Peter - the ISBN is especially important and I can do the rest. But that said, if it's a really old book and you have access, I certainly don't mind the help with links :) I just google as well... All help is gratefully accepted :)

message 1940: by Suz (last edited Jul 25, 2017 08:44PM) (new)

Suz | 4430 comments Hi Librarians. This author created a new name for herself as I am guessing she didn't like my one star review https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I'm also seeing a lot of five star reviews from the same date and location (on the new profile). Not that there is anything that can be done about that! It's just not honest to people who might need a 'real' review to decide if a book is for them.

Same book, same name, she has just placed a 'Ms' under the version that I reviewed.

message 1941: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79996 comments Mod
Hi Suzanne :) I've fixed it now and combined the editions. I didn't see the Ms at all though - but you have two reviews showing - one review and one rating, so perhaps you could delete your rating one without the review. Do you see it?

Hi Suzanne, I understand what you mean, but there can be good reasons for a number of reviews on the same date. Most often it is soon after a book is released and the author has done some promo.

Suz | 4430 comments Hi librarians, could someone please amend the subtitle on this one? Hooked. My edition also has pages. The publisher details are correct. The full title is as found in this link https://www.penguin.com.au/books/hook...

Thanks

message 1945: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79996 comments Mod
I added the subtitle on the one you linked Suzanne, but didn't change the other edition as it matches the book cover. In your post above you don't mention how many pages, so I left the one you linked and saw the one on the penguin website has the same number as the edition on GR :)

message 1946: by Suz (new)

Tarmia | 221 comments Could someone please edit the description for this book:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Here is the blurb of my copy:

Stumbling upon an execution, Chaucer's pilgrims witness a hanging that leaves the carpenter in a dead faint. That evening, he narrates the tale of a Gloucester hangman whose involvement in the secretive punishment of three witches unleashes a vicious spate of revenge killings.

When Simon Cotterill, a carpenter, followes his sweetheart to Gloucester, he is beaten by her father's thugs. Homeless and with no family to help him, he accepts the only job he can find and joins the local hangman's crew, replacing a man whop himself was sent to the gebbet. But Simon feels rejected even by the desperate men he now works with, until he learns the secret of how a hanged man can walk away from his grave.

Thank you, and much appreciated.
