OK Bette, I have done it for you. I didn't realize you were a librarian? But when you add a book to the database, it takes 10 minutes to show up by any search except the ISBN. Also, under the writing about the book there are three choices: all editions/add a new edition/combine ... click on "combine" and you will see the copy you just created, plus the other copies...just follow the prompts and that will combine them into one page. You always have to manually combine:)

I'm not a librarian; I don't feel confident enough about the finer point of GR. But it does allow me to manually add a book although not edit to add a cover. I can't get my head around adding the cover part.
I did read the 10 minutes update notice when I added the book but didn't realise this was why my copy was showing at first as a stand-alone edition. You see what I mean about not understanding the finer points!!!

Your book would show as stand alone until it's combined Bette...they all do.

Oh yeah, anyone can add a book! And yes, there are SO many books on GR whose details need a good cleanup:(
I suppose they had to allow that otherwise Librarians might be overrun with requests to add new books/editions...
But being one of those 'anyones', I have made sure I understand what I'm doing before I add anything. Except for the cover thingy:)

You mention combining editions. Am I entering books incorrectly? I am using where it say add new edition. If that's not how to dd a book correctly, please let me know.

You are doing it correctly Bette. When you add a new edition, you then need to combine it with the other editions which are already in the database. I explained how to do it in post 567...it's just the next step after you've created your book.

I've also added http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/96... and the cover is the same as http://books.google.com.au/books/abou... (is it acceptable to get cover art from Google Books?).
Also, should the 2 editions of the each book be linked somehow (i.e. show as other editions)? Because neither of them seem to be registering that there are other editions at the moment... Maybe I did something wrong when I created my copies of the books...

If you go into "Other Editions" beneath the ISBN and so on, you'll see there's a bunch there under The Seamstress. :)

I'm not sure whether this can be changed or whether a new edition should just be added...I am reading this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... however this says that there are 276 pages, while the copy I have, with the same ISBN, is only 239 pages - can there be a copy of the book with the same ISBN and more pages than mine, or is it likely to be a typo?
