The plot thickens. King Lear is now hiding in a hovel with Kent, the Fool, and Edgar disguised as Tom. Gloucester remains faithful to the king and warns him to go to Dover because of the plot to kill him. Edmund turns against his father, Gloucester, and informs Cornwall of how G. has helped the king, and also shows him a letter that incriminates G. of conspiring with France. Gloucester is captured and tortured by Cornwall and Regan. A servant who tries to defend him is killed and Gloucester loses both of his eyes and is kicked out of his own home.
