message 102: by Ms.soule (new)

Ms.soule (mrssoule) Thanks! Except with moving at the end of the month and wrapping up the beginning of a fostering/adoption process (squeeee!! running in tight little circles of equal parts joy and terror), I'm pretty sure I won't be finishing this challenge!

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments D'aww! I love Yoshi! And you've still got a few weeks, Mrs. Soule! You can do it!

When I was little, My late mother would get me, my sister, and her a new hat to wear to Church.
Read a book with a HAT on the COVER.

Randi (mrsrandimoulton) | 254 comments March 4-10 is Celebrate your Name Week. For this task, read a book by an author who shares a name with you (could be a first, middle, or last name) OR a book with one of your names in the title. (here's a fun website for more ideas on how to celebrate ;) http://www.namesuniverse.com/ )

May 6th is World Laughter Day. Read a book shelved as "humor." ( http://www.followthelaughter.com/WLD.htm )

April is Autism Awareness month. For this task, read a book with a main character who has autism or Asperger's Syndrome/written by an author with autism or Asperger's Syndrome, or about autism in some way.

Meranda (msl87) May 25th is Geek Pride Day !!!

Via Wikipedia ... In 2008, Geek Pride Day was officially celebrated in America, where it was heralded by numerous bloggers, coalescing around the launch of the Geek Pride Day website. Math author, Euler Book Prize winner, and geek blogger John Derbyshire not only did a shout out, but announced that he would be appearing in the Fifth Avenue parade, dressed as number 57, on the prime number float - prompting some bloggers to say they'd be looking for him. By 2009, acknowledgment of the day had reached the Science Channel, with special programming on May 25th to celebrate. Events took place to commemorate the day in Ottawa, home to the Canada Science and Technology Museum and a notable research centre in Canada. In 2010 the festival spread further, taking in cities as diverse as Halifax, Nova Scotia; Budapest, Hungary; Tel Aviv, Israel; Timişoara, Romania and San Diego, California.

Celebrate your inner geek and read a non-fiction book about a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) topic or person (science includes medicine !!) ... Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Einstein: His Life and Universe, Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, Steve Jobs, The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook: A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal ... there's lots of interesting stuff out there !!!

This sounds like an awesome task! I've been meaning to read The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution for months, so maybe that would fit. ;)

April is National Poetry Month (in the US)!!! To celebrate, read a book of poetry!

Meranda (msl87) AND THEY'RE OFF !!!!

May starts the race for the most coveted title in Thoroughbred racing -- The Triple Crown, with the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes both taking place in May. Only 11 horses have been able to claim the crown, the latest being Affirmed in 1978.

Read a book, fiction or non-fiction set around horses, or one that has a horse on the cover. There's a list already created to help you out ... http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/16...

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Yes, and now Sandy has added her "twist of the knife'. OK Kristi what kind of torture are you going to add?

I wonder who else is going to finish the Winter challenge before tomorrow? There are several people VERY close.

Good news is that my hubby is going to be out of town tomorrow. What a perfect day for him to be gone! :)

Randi (mrsrandimoulton) | 254 comments So I woke up Wednesday (the 15th) and got so excited because I thought that was the day for tasks! Then I got on, realized that it was actually the day my grad school summer classes are listed. :( Definitely not as exciting!

Funny I was just thinking the same thing. But I don't think the people running the Trivia night would appreciate my iPhone out while answering trivia.

Trivia night probably not so good - but we'll just be playing board games.

message 120: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments How about a new game called "Fit the book in to the task"?? Do you think anyone would buy into that game?

message 121: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments To all the moderators - the challenge is so much fun for so many of us. Thank you for being willing to do this another season. We all appreciate all the hard work that you do on the SRC.

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 815 comments Aaaahhhh!!! I am sooooo excited! I almost forgot this was tomorrow. Unfortunately I have tasks for work to do for tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to finish it early and get working on these. I mean I have to be in at 6a anyway and work a 12 hour shift. Plenty of time to do both right?
