Room - Emma Donoghue - How are you getting on?
Hmm. Have you heard the expression, tried it once, didn't like it?It gets rave reviews but it really did abosolutley nothing for me. I won't bother with this one thanks.
This was one of the first books I bought for my kindle, but I haven't got around to reading it yet. Good excuse now for me to start it soon ;-).
This book has been on my TBR list for ages, but haven't got around to it. Will see how I get on with my current book (I'm a slow reader) and if I get it finished in plenty of time I might actually make a start!

I bought this back in October,maybe now I will get round to actually reading it.
I read this last year and absolutely loved it, so did my reading buddies. I though it was simply amazing and that you are in for a treat IMO!
I was all out to hate this book - the way it was written, the whole premise of it really. But I was very pleasantly surprised and ended up loving it. A very moving and absorbing book. Enjoy!
I have just 1 clicked but have already started on another book so it is next on my list!
I wish I could read it for the first time again.

I read this quite a while ago. I remember saying to my partner, "it's getting good now." And then it ended.
It sounds too harrowing for me, but then so do the others...
Havent started it yet but picked it up for Kindle for under a pound last week! Bargin! Excited to start and pleased there is a discussion thread...i'll be back!
so glad you are doing this one... I really did not like it at all. But that means I am looking forwards to reading everyone elses views, like to hear what people liked about it... I did think there was one thing in it that really made an impression on me, save that for the discussion.under £1 Yorky that was good!

I'm glad I choose a book so divided :D! I started reading it last night and got 33% in! After I got used to the rather unique writing, I started enjoying it. Although Jack needs a good punch.
Lyra, I think you are the only one apart from me who hasn't liked it. I too will read the discussion thread with interest.
I just started it :o) It's a bit weird with the child narrating it but it's not bad, just different. I am eager to read more and see what happens.
I find myself reading slightly slower than normal thanks to the writing but it's impressive that a grown woman wrote this.
I'm surprised (pleasantly) how convincing it is. Although couple of things have stood out as would a child say that or is that meant to be from the child's perspective or just a general/adult one.
I've managed to pick a group read that;1. Adds to my anxiety
2. Makes me feel like a horrible person
3. Is traumatising me slightly
4. Makes me want to do violent things towards a child
Um... are you referring to this book?I'm quite enjoying it I'm being really moved by it. I was nearly crying in the tea room at one point and my heart was nearly thumping out my chest! It's a bit weird because it's from the child's point of view and his (lack of) understanding of the world. But I think it's good :o)
YES!My heart was pumping so hard at about 40% I thought I'd die.
But I feel horrible because I just really hate the kid. ACH!!!! He's so annoying.
ME TOO!!!! It was like I was there! He is a wee bit annoying but then he doesn't know any better. I'm not finding him too annoying just now.
i'm at 65% and i want to punch him.and i seriously thought i'd break down. i had to seriously speed read so i didn't have a panic attack!!!

I recognized its brilliance and it's stayed with me so in a way yes. I'm glad I read it, but I'd never read it again. certain bits of it I didn't enjoy reading but I don't think it was because it was bad, just threw me a little!
i just downloaded it to my kindle- got one to finish then I will crack on with it!
I thought Room good but flawed - there was one thing a character did that seemed to me to be totally out of character, put in just to add drama to the story (can't say more as it would be a spoiler). I especially liked the end.
I think I know what you mean Lexi, and I have it as one of my topics *dork alert*I thought there were a few things that put it off flow also, which I think were added to add to drama, but just took away from the already shocking story.
First book I I read on the kindle Felt mixed about it. Good but can't say I enjoyed reading it. Well except for the kindle experience but that's a different story!!!!!

OMG I bloody loved this book- once I got into it and on it's level I got totally carried on the wave! Blown away- it was very different and very moving!
It was certainly different and I've just finished. I quite enjoyed the book although the subject was unusual but plausible. I look forward to the discussions
I didn't like it, found myself skipping through & eventually stoppped just under half way
This was a promising book up until a certain point and then it lost it's way. It seemed to get bogged down in making a statement and what made the first part so interesting just vanished. In my opinion this book wasn't quite as important as It thought it was.
