W.H. (lovetiggi) | 98 comments It was brought to my attention that this is cataloged with the wrong Author and Title:

Can you fix this? Brea Essex noticed that INK is listed to another author and under another title....I have no idea how this could have happened. ttp://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12566316-...

I changed the Author to S. J. Davis and the Titlr to Ink as it should be, how do I correct the link.. Checking to make sure the ISBN is correct now. The ISBN that is listed belongs to Ink not Magick Weaved on a Samhain Eve...Please advise how to correct this. Thank you.

This book is linked somehow to this book

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

The ISBN "9781908505873" appears to belong to "Ink" but I don't have enough experience as a librarian to figure out how to fix this one. Somebody else will help you, I'm sure.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) It looks like the two books were combined as though they were the same work, just two editions. I separated them.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments I think the two books are the same. I'm not sure why someone changed the ISBN 9781908505873, but a Google search for 9781908505873 "magic weaved" comes up with no results, while a search for 9781908505873 "ink" returns 70+.

I found it at OpenISBN, but I'm not sure if that's a credible source or not. All the other sources are bookseller sites.

Also, look at the reviews for 9781908505873. The one written by Katandra specifically mentions Ink, the one written by Bonnie talks about a Native American spirit which fits the description of Ink, and Wendy's links to her blog website that shows the full review as being for Ink.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) *Sigh* figures my first separate would be wrong. :)

I looked at authors and ISBN/ASIN numbers. Should have gone deeper.

Did you re-combine? Or shall I go fix my error?

W.H. (lovetiggi) | 98 comments I have a copy of the Ink mini back with that ISBN on it is 9781908505873. They are two separate entities. I have done nothing further to it after I asked for help. I reviewed it as well.....

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Goodreads recently cut their ties with Amazon and had to remove a lot of data. They also received new data from other sources - some of it a little wonky.

When you find books with bad information, the best bet is to post them here so a librarian can look into it.

I'm going to message the user who rescued the ISBN in question to see what's going on there before I change anything.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) | 60 comments Hi Wendy,

I know exactly what you mean! There is a discussion going in the moderator support group on the missing covers but it goes a lot further than that. The name of an author is sometimes replaced (incorrectly, I may add) as well as other things that shouldn't have been changed.

I'll just post a copy of my message here:
All of my books, except for one, used to have a cover image but as this was no longer the case, I have been scanning all the books on my personal shelves that had missing covers (sigh...). I noticed that not just the cover but often a lot of the data had disappeared as well. Things like publisher, year of publication, number of pages, edition, and so on, are often gone.

When going through all of my books, I noticed something else that is going on:
Whole books have disappeared from my personal shelves and a number of times my Dutch edition has been changed into something else (into an Icelandic edition, to name just one example). When I tried to find the original Dutch addition I had added, it was nowhere to be found...

Has anyone else noticed this problem or am I the only one? I know all librarians make the occasional mistake, we are only human after all, but thoroughly changing or deleting whole editions is more than just making a small mistake. I have actual hard copies of all of the books on my personal shelves, so I can change things back again, which I often do depending on the data that needs to be changed, or I just delete the edition from my shelves and add the correct edition again. But it does create a huge amount of work...

I checked the librarian log a couple of times and apart from the names of other GR members and librarians, it said 'Ingram' a lot. It seems Ingram is very good at changing things which shouldn't be changed at all. I'm Dutch, so not American or British, but I understand Ingram is a book company? How come these incorrect changes are made?

By the way, I only check and change data for books I own, with the exception of Dutch books found on the shelves of the Netherlands & Flanders group I am a co-moderator of.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Back to the Ink confusion, I heard back from the user who rescued the book who said it was her mistake... I've reverted it back to Ink and filled in as much information as I could.
