Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments Aw, geez. I had no idea that cat allergies could be so serious. All this right when he's supposed to be starting a new job. Hope he's okay.

If you mean your post starting "What is it with the men in this group? Are any of them healthy?", I saw it. I was laughing at Amos's response to your "taking it easier now?: "I don't have the energy to take it any other way. lol."

Get better soon, Jeremy. We already missed you. A lot.

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Katie (the true Cancer among us), you are always so on top of these things. Thanks for keeping us in the know!

Jeremy, glad to hear you are on the mend. Must have scared you half to death!

I was in hospital for most of the day yesterday, but not for myself I'm grateful to say. My dd had what was an infection of some major organ and was treated with antibiotics she'd taken before, but was feeling worse so I heighed her off to hospital. Docs suspected she had probably developed an allergy to the meds but they're not certain - fortunately she'd called a Doc in the morning for the results of the urine test she'd given a couple of days previously and it was clear so was told to stop the meds. Further tests did not show any sign of the infection remaining.

Then last evening she spiked a fever and we (make that me) had a few anxious hours as we monitored it. After a few hours it did go back down - and this morning she awoke with a sore throat. Looks as if she might have a common cold after all that and mom need not have worried. Her immune system is so compromised...

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments Sharon, I just see these things on Facebook and I don't like people being sick.

I'm glad your daughter is on the mend again, but it must be scary when she gets so ill. Hugs to you both. Hope she gets over her cold quickly.

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Thanks Patricia and Katie, it is scary. She's much better today. It is astonishing how quickly she sometimes recovers. Her sunny attitude never fails to get us through, but last night she was beside herself when she phoned the renal floor after she spiked a fever and got no sympathy whatsover (she doesn't really like sympathy and has never phoned them before) and was coldly told she should go to emerg. We were advised by the Docs under no condition should she ever go to the ER unless it was the middle of the night and there was no staff, so Mom got on the phone and asked for the head nurse, told her the situation and that it was simply not good enough to treat someone who was really sick and scared with less than compassion and could I please talk to a nurse with whom we could communicate the problem. The head nurse was much better and went outside her authority and read the results from the day's tests, which were that the infection was largely cleared up. She also said that knowing this, dd could take some Tylenol (can't remember what it is called in Ozz, but over the counter pain meds that can diminish fever). She did take some and over a few hours her fever was diminished enough for us to heave a sigh of relief and get some sleep.

This morning dd, who is normally very stoic, came and gave me a teary hug and thanked me for making that call. I consider it my job to act as her advocate in such times - Lord knows I am no nurse, but I can be a real crab if my kids are under attack in any way. It had been a trying week with her visiting the Doc and/or hospital no fewer than 5 times between last Friday and yesterday (Thursday here). Most were routine visits that just happened to fall together.

It was all pretty ironic as she'd just had her monthly 'clinic' where she is assessed on her progress and the Doc grinned and said, 'you should come visit us more often', indicating she was a model patient.

As an aside, I thought of you the other day when a lab tech was trying to take blood from her hand with a butterfly needle - and was so inept she brought dd to tears.

Cat-free, but not Kat-free. Never Kat-free I hope.

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments She'll just have to change her name. Simple as that.

J.A. Beard (jabeard) I am home and settled in now. I wrote an entry on my blog (rift watcher.blogspot.com) explaining what happened. I was going to write it up here but currently can only get to GR on my wife's iPhone for some reason.

I hope to be active here on a daily basis going forward (assuming I can get gr to load on my. comp!)

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.

I wish my old blog didn't poof when I tried merging it with my current blog. Lost everything. I would have shared my post where a year ago and a few months, a bowl obstruction nearly killed me. I blogged the complete truth, how I was self promoting my Passion Trilogy novels to the doctors and nurses who were wondering how long I had left on the planet.

Once they got two large suction cups filled with blood out of my gut through an NG tube, my insides started healing and no surgery was needed. It was close. If they had to open me up, chances were at 10/90. 10% survival that is...

Best promotional period of my life. I was on my potential deathbed, shamelessly self promoting with high glee, knowing full well that if and when my lights go out for good, I go out like an Independent Author should. Selling his stuff to people who don't really wanna buy anything. ^_^

lol, yeah, true story there.

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments Ah, what a lost opportunity when I had my double mastectomy. I could have told the surgeon, "I'll give you two of these if you'll buy two of my books."
