RatCreature | 4 comments I'm new to the librarian thing, and tried to proceed like the librarian manual described, but I must have done something wrong. But I'm not sure what my mistake was, so I thought it's better to ask here rather than to mess up again, when trying to correct this.

I wanted to fix the titles of three of my books (they had been capitalized wrongly after the Amazon switch). Because the three books belong to a series, but weren't labelled as such yet, I added the series name after the fixed title in brackets in the formatting like the manual said you should do for books in a series.

After fixing the titles I saved the books (I also uploaded cover images for two and added a page count and a description for one). Then I created a series for the series name I added with the series ticky box (from the form of the first book). Then I added the other two books to the series. For the first book it worked as expected, i.e. the series name in the title became gray, however for the second and third book the gray series name was added after the title on top of the brackets I had manually entered with the titles.

What did I do wrong? Have I misunderstood the instructions and should have only input the series info through the ticky box not manually? But why did it work for the first book? Is it because I created the series through that form?

This is the first book, that show the series info correctly:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/66...

These are the second and third books:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21...
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/94...

And what is the way to fix this? Do you delete the brackets in the title field and it is still added in gray?

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments The formatting which replaces the written-out series name with the link to the series page is very specific: the single space after the closing parenthesis in the title field is causing the problem. If you put in "(Jacobi-Saga, #3)" instead of "(Jacobi-Saga, #3) ", it will display correctly.

Also, welcome to being a librarian! :)

Aha! That is tricky. I didn't even realize I had typed a space, but I'll be more careful in the future.

Thank you for the quick explanation. I fixed it now.
