5 Star read, but will never be a classic... disapointed in that!

I know I'm not the only one, when I say that most of Wards slang will not make it through the next decade. Some of the slang she uses now requires translation, and her descriptivw slang she uses now will be so out dated in the next decade, that if the books are not rewritten later, no one will be able to trudge through her lengthy books trying to decypher the meanings.

Tohr was redeemed, but he was an ass the whole way through... I do Love Lassiter!

Tohr was an ass. Granted, he misses Wellsie & his unborn son, but he was mean to No'One several times & she forgave him. He was a user, & I was surprised how many times it was explained away, that he was so depressed about his loss, so things were very excusable just because he said sorry. I think at times he needed to grovel.

John & Xhex had a major problem in their relationship & it was resolved perfectly!

John saw Xhex get hurt & he freaks out. He does not want to end up living life like Tohr. He asks her in a way to not fight anymore because he can't bear to think of the loss of her, so she gets mad, moves out & gets her old job back. John doesn't want Tohr to like No'One either, because John sees it as replacing Wellsie. No'One is Xhex's mother, so she doesn't want her mom hurt either.

The others are all mentioned...BUT...

Because of the length of this book, I thought it would have more mention or more interaction with more people in the book. At one time everyone was mentioned, but because of the time between releases, I just expected more of a quick catch up on who is doing what & how they are. Z's baby is alive. That's all I knw. I wanna know if she's talking & what she's doing. It could have been a funny & sweet moment, but I guess that may be asking to much. Her first words would probably be "Fuck off asshole" anyway!

Phury has been Phuried & that's that. Not redeemed so far & I don't expect that anywhere in the near future. I just see a one liner out there! LOL!

Quin & Blay

I could really care less about them & their book. It has nothing to do with te gay thing, but I was never their fan. It just seemed kind of stupid. I wanted quinn to be with Layla, but thats probably not going to happen. They would make a great baby. I hope it sticks.

The Band of Bastards is now definitely bad!

The new bad guys in town are definitely bad. I thought the lessers were gone, but no, they're still around! It's the BoB who take over as the enemy. I'm kind of curious how that goes, but as many books as I read, I am not anxiously waiting for the next book. I guess I could give or take it, I just know it won't be one I will buy new.

All in all it was a good read.

God this book took me forever to read! Almost 600 pages & the slang bothered me more in the first 150 pages, but then got better. Less wordy slang I guess. The story itself was really good. I didn't cry though. I guess maybe because in 2010 I had 9 people we knew pretty close from my dad, to friends kids, to my kids friends, die tragically freak deaths & I am desensitized to the loss, I don't know. Oh well. I felt bad for the guy, but I've seen so many people in a year and a half move on even though they are still sad. You never get past a loss, really.

This book started out really slow for me and I didn't enjoy it very much at the beginning. I felt like the majority of the book was focused on the relationship between Cam and Liv and their back story.... and honestly, it bored me. Since the story was told from both Cam and Liv's point of view in alternating chapters, you got to see how they were both feeling. I did enjoy that I knew how they were both feeling in some areas, however, when it concerned their relationship and having to hear it over and over again.. it got old and sometimes confusing.

The end of the book definitely picked up and got a lot more interesting for me. With Cam and Liv both signed on together with Cavazos, I think it's going to get a lot more interesting. I hope the next one is better with all the relationships established.

I loved this strange futuristic Cinderella story. It has cyborgs, androids, hovers, and a plague that has killed millions of people. I was a little bit sad because of the cliffhanger, but I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

I'll be in London next week for the London Book Fair, so I'm afraid that I will probably read pretty little then :D

booklovinrn | 106 comments READERS CHOICE SHELF Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati 4/4/12 ★★★★★ (5 STARS)

A poignant love story set in upstate New York in the 1700’s. The story is based around Elizabeth Middleton, a spinster school teacher freshly out of England intending to teach the children of her father’s community. And Nathaniel Bonner, strikingly handsome and a rare mix of Native American traditions and white man influence. This begins a story of forbidden love, adventure, romance, and history tied into a story which has Nathaniel and Elizabeth marrying secretly and running away. This is a beautifully written historical-romance, this book is a must-read for those who love a good adventure romance with a historical lesson to boot.

booklovinrn | 106 comments GOODREADS AUTHORFifty Shades of Grey 4/14/12
★★★★★ (5 STARS)

I picked this book up for several reasons: my book club at work is reading it, it had been recommended to me by several goodreads buddies and all the coverage this book has recieved in the media as being "Mommy Porn". Let me say I am glad I finally picked it up.

This book is dark and romantic, but don't expect roses and rainbows, because you will be really disappointed. Christian Grey is beautiful, wealthy and confidently in control, but that is all just a shiny veneer that protects the tortured soul that lives inside. All of Mr. Grey's carefully crafted control slowly begins to unravel once Anastasia Steel stumbles into his world.
I really was surprised by how well the author painted the picture of the uber dominant, Christian Grey. I could have very easily disliked his character, but there was something in her depiction of Christian that just hit all the right spots perfectly for me. I loved how he could be allbroody and scary then, the second I decided to hate him, he flipped the switch to Prince Charming mode. I can't even imagine what it must be like for the very inexperienced Anastasia. Extremely disarming I am sure. Ana's emotions are a large part of what makes FIFTY SHADES OF GREY unique from all the other erotica/dom/sub stories that are on the shelves.

I highly recommend this book, it is beautifully written.

This was the third installment of this series and by far the best. The first two were good but this one surpassed them by far. It held my interest from the beginning. There were a lot of questions answered but the story is far from over! The best part was seeing Chloe and Derek finally come together. I love how protective he is over her. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

5 stars!

What the plot really is:

In the previous books, Orpheus had the Orb of Kronos. He gave it to his brother Gryphon - the true Argonaut of his family - to kill Atalanta (pretty much the queen of all the Demons) - Her beginnings are explained in the first book, so I think it needs to be read in order.

Orpheus' plot was ruined by a warlock that took over Gryphon's body & sent his soul to Tartarus - the worst part of hell in the underworld. Orpheus needs to take the orb back from the warlock so he can save his brother.

Skyla is a siren who works for Athena. She is sent by Athena for Zeus to kill Orpheus, They deem him dangerous & Zues wants the orb for himself.

Orpheus needs the illegitimate daughter of Persephone & Zeus who can sense shifts in the earth to find the warlock. Sooo... All 3 Orpheus, Skyla & Maelea go on their quest. Blah blah blah.

Why this one was so good:

This one plotted out so much story ahead. New characters are introduced, new quests for the argonauts & new items to keep safe etc.
It also had so much going on in almost 400 pages, I hated to put it down. Also included was the hot little love story between Orpheus & Skyla.

I have nothing bad to say. EVEN the Covers are perfect!

I cannot wait for the next one!

This is my favorite series, but sometimes I forget. I read so many books & the next books take from 6 months to a year to be released, so I really can't pace around... I would like to though.

My guess is that the next book will be about Gryphon & Maelea. It was just an obvious set up, but she could squeeze in a Nick book in between! I definitely wouldnt mind!

Problem I see starting this series

Not very many people like Greek myth. I like it mixed with the romance all of these books are, and it doesn't let the big Gods win or have their way all the time as in most books which is a plus. I think the first book was a 5 star read also, I just think it's rated overall in the 3.90 range because of the greek myth problem some people have. Oh well! HA! Just look at the cover!!

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments The stars are missing?? All I see are a's & well, I am not sure the same is true for anyone else.

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
for the "Goodreads-author" Shelf
I rate it ★★★★★

This book blew my mind. In a very cruel, heartbreaking way.

It was a harrowing experience. A razor of a story. It was bare, and painful, and honest, and sweet, and touching, and moving. Terribly sad, and still endlessly hopeful. And happy. An incredible and realistic contradiction.

I read it in one sitting. It's a relatively short novel, but the real reason is that it just grabs you in the first sentence and immerses you in this girl world before you have time to even get your bearings. It picks you up and, instead of soothing you into the whole "suspend disbelief and come imagine yourself in this world I've written" thing, smashes you against the floor like some piece of glass. After such a rude start, you have to stay to see the pieces put back together.

The story proceeds to stomp on the shards for some pages. When all that is left are jagged bits, a mosaic starts be built with them. And therein lies the beauty: nothing can be healed. There is just something new that can be made. The process is not instantaneous, and a lot of cuts, blood and tears go into it. The final picture is kinda beautiful, in all it's fragmented glory.

The protagonist would be most insulting of the whole analogy. She's a deadpan bitch. The kind of person that when you cross in real life is clever and intimidating, but interesting and pulling, and lots of fun to be around when tempered with love. She feels real, and her voice is strong through the whole narrative. She's a self-centered, lazy, usual sixteen-year-old, with normal angst over changing schools and fitting in, that finds the foundation pillars of her life crumbling one morning. She's the heart of the story. The story is in her and through her. The rest of the cast is a bunch of stereotypes. But they are lovable. And seen through her, look real too.

I loved this story. There was so much I could relate to, and I run through a wide, deep gamut of emotions (and a couple of paper tissues) in the 250 plus pages. It was cathartical and healing. And I want to save practically everything in quotes in my brain, and bring them up into my mind whenever.

Amazing, amazing book.

What can I say J.R.Ward does it again. I love her books. I always look forward to reading about The Brothers. They are all so damn sexy. Tohr's story took me through a whole range of emotions. At times I just wanted to give Tohr a good old fashion kick in the pants and others I wanted to just hold him and cry. I am ready and waiting for the next BDB book.

I rate it ★★1/2

Ah, I have to say this was definitely not my favorite book from Ms. Harris. It has a really interesting premise - a woman who can sense bodies and tell you what they died from. However, the story was just really slow and I didn't feel like much happened after the beginning when the body is found. The relationship between the two characters, who were related once by marriage but now they aren't, is confusing especially when one begins to develop feelings for the other. And the end was rather anti-climactic. I just have to say, I didn't care much for the book.
