D.G. | 2752 comments I'm mid-way through Angelfall already and it's really good. I probably would have finished already if a mystery hadn't gotten in the way! (I usually listen to one book and read another.)

I'm supposed to be working on job application now and instead I'm here and listening music!

Sigh...

message 53: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32716 comments I also vote for Twisted Sixes.
I'm a little over 1/2 way thru my book and enjoying it so far.

RE: Ferris commercial, I told my hubby that it would probably lead more people to re-watch the '80s movie than it would entice them to buy the car. LOL! And, my two favorite commercials (after watching them all on Hulu last night) were Audi's vamps and M&M's nekked dance to LMFAO! <--- I still giggle thinking of that one.

D.G. | 2752 comments Steph! The M&M commercial was also my favorite.

I'm sexy and I know it!!!! I've watched it like 4 times!

D.G. | 2752 comments Good morning, ladies! I hope you're reading is going well.

I've been trying to decide on my free space. I'd like to pick an audio but very few of the ones I have are already on the group shelf (and I don't think it counts if I add them myself!)

message 57: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments It does count D.G. so if its something that should already be on the shelf, add it.

Josie | 1967 comments Hi guys! I've finished for the free space shelf.

The Rest Falls Away (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #1) by Colleen Gleason

Title/Author: The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason
Date finished: 7th February
Rating: ★★★★
Review: This was better than I thought it'd be. Victoria was a great main character and there was loads of action which kept the pace moving. There was a bit of an info dump at the beginning, plus I got annoyed at the aunt at the start for some reason but I think I'm over that now. Looking forward to the next book :)

Dana, I'm sorry I'm such a changer! Please can I have Rises The Night for Supernatural instead?

message 59: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Oh thanks for letting me know!

I started adding some books from genres already in the book shelves (dystopia, time travel, fantasy) which I figure other members read.

D.G. | 2752 comments That series looks interesting. I'm not much for historical PNRs but I may try that one out.

message 63: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Feb 07, 2012 03:45PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32716 comments Josie, Glad you liked it. I was pleasantly surprised myself. I typically don't love historical romances, but I gobbled that series in a week. Couldn't get enough of it. Hope you enjoy the rest of it.

Thanks for the reminder, Sandra, I have that one left TBR. Gotta remember to read it soon.

ETA: I have her Regency Draculia books TBR also. I'd forgotten about those as well. Blast! So many books ....

Also, I've got about 20% to go on my supernatural read; enjoying it and should have it finished before the end of the day.

Hope everyone's enjoying their books too!

D.G. | 2752 comments So did we decided on a name? Josie & Juana haven't stopped by to vote but we already have a majority.

message 65: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Feb 07, 2012 06:35PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32716 comments Maybe see if they comment about the name today, if not I'm fine going with the majority. As long as they haven't felt strongly towards any particular name. (Yes, one of my nicknames is "Gumby". Forgive me my inability to be firm sometimes. ETA: Laura Lulu is always tellin' me to put on my big-girl panties, but ... today they're in the wash.)

message 68: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Thanks Sandra! I read it yesterday and found it very strange that it takes place in the middle of book 1.

Try it D.G.! It looks as if the series gets better as it goes as well which I always like.

@Steph: HR are not usually my fave drink either, I have to be in the right mood for them (I have noticed recently that I go through phases of reading loads of one genre then switching suddenly to another one). TRFA reminded me of Buffy (which I've been watching every night lol) but set in the past, particularly the vamps of the world with the staking and turning into ashes etc. I haven't tried RD series yet although I read a bit of an excerpt. I'll be looking out for what you think of them when you get round to starting - you can be the guinea pig seeing as they're not rated all that high :P

I like Twisted Sixes team!
Thanks Dana, I like the tiara!! I will wear it everyday :D

message 69: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments YES!!! We got tiaras too! Woohoo!!

BTW, Dana...I almost PIMP laughing reading what you wrote in your profile. :)

message 70: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Historical romance used to be my favorite genre but I haven't read as much in the last year. Too many genres have gotten on the way!

I promise that I will diligently finish my book for this and I won't let any audiobook get in the way!!!

Juana "Darkness" Duran | 172 comments Hey guys I've finished for Supernatural, here is the details.

TITLE/AUTHOR: No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole

DATE FINISHED: February 8

RATING: 4 stars

REVIEW: I loved this book. It seems like every time I start a book from this series it gets better. I especially loved the part where he really wants to kill himself by using Kaderin. But no she doesn't grant Sebastian that mercy. And thats when BAM Sebastian gets blooded. And Kaderin gets her feelings back. I also loved the ending where Sebastian gets asked whether he would give anything for Kaderin because something surprising happens to her. I mean I couldn't believe it but it happened. Can't wait to read the rest of the series to see which other characters Kresley Cole has given the love of their life too.

Steph (angel4492) | 32716 comments Silver-Tongued Devil (Sabina Kane, #4) Silver-Tongued Devil by Jaye Wells

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Read for shelf: supernatural
Date Read: 6-8 February

Silver-Tongued Devil picks up with Sabina, Giguhl, and gang where the previous book, Green-Eyed Demon left off. Things are quite different for Sabina these days - she's focusing on her mage-side and suppressing her vamp-side. I really miss her kick-ass assassin vamp-side.

Sabina and Adam are told to investigate several murders. Together with Giguhl, they try to find out who the murderer is and why they are killing. What they discover, in the end, will shock them.

Several side stories run throughout the book, including Giguhl's attempts to form a kickass roller derby team and Mac (were) and Georgia's (vamp) forbidden love. Also, I was happy to see the return of several other friends from N'Orleans, members of the band Necrospank 500, Erron Zorn and Ziggy.

Giguhl, the mischief demon, continues to be one of my absolute favorite characters (from any series). He is an absolute riot! In this book, however, it's clear from the brief comments made by his friend Pussy Willow that we may learn more about his true feelings regarding his "relationship" with Sabina in the next book. Should be interesting.

While I like Adam, a lot, I do not like how he doesn't seem to accept Sabina's vamp half. So, I was happy to see this specifically addressed in the book. Because of that, I rated this book 4★ even if I didn't particularly like mainly-magey Sabina as much as mainly-vampy Sabina. The latter 1/4th of the book is where all the action begins, IMO, but the running stories throughout were still entertaining.

I'm very excited to read the next book in the series, Blue-Blooded Vamp, which is due in June 2012. But, I'm very sorry to learn that it will be the final one. Per author's website: How many books are going to feature Sabina Kane? Five total. BLUE-BLOODED VAMP, which comes out in June 2012, is the final installment in Sabina Kane’s story.

Some of my favorite scenes/quotes:

Giguhl switches from his hairless cat form to his demon form in a men's restroom and frightens a man in there who screams, "What the fuck! Keep that thing away from me." To which Giguhl tells him, "Don't flatter yourself, you couldn't handle The Pitchfork."

While investigating the murders, Sabina, Adam, and Giguhl visit the local sex shops. When they encounter a female Dom in one, Giguhl nicknames her "the vampinatrix." She thinks Giguhl, in hairless kitty form, is Sabina's familiar. When she's surprised to learn he's her minion, Giguhl winked at her. What she means is, I might look like a pussy but I'm really a badass demon."

Sabina asks Giguhl to escort Georgia, Mac's girlfriend, to the club Vein and orders him to change into his cat form. Mac gasps when she sees him change and says, "That's not right." "Oh, please," Giguhl hissed. "Like anyone's gonna believe you're disgusted by a little pussy."

When Sabina goes backstage to talk to Erron she suggests the midget sitting by him leave before they start. He tells her that Goldie knows everything and can stay put. When Sabina questions her name, Goldie tells her, "That's right, bitch. Goldie Schwartz. And I'm not a fucking midget. I prefer the term 'fun sized'."

Lastly, when Sabina joins Giguhl's roller derby team, her nickname is "Betty Bloodshed."

message 77: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Congrats Juana and Steph! Good luck DG!

@Juana: I've only read up to #4 of the IAD series so far but the next one is my fave so enjoy ;)

@Steph: Great review and quotes! Glad to see you're enjoying the series - I love Giguhl too even though I've only read the first book. I got the second from the library at the end of last year and was a few pages in when I ran out of patience and returned it although I'm blaming that on being super busy and stressed. So now your review has inspired me to carry it on sooner rather than later! I can never decide if I'm happy and sad when an author plans to end a series - I can't wait to reach the end and find out what happens but then when it is finished... sad times :'(

I've finished my book for the Supernatural shelf (or free space, I can't really remember but I think they fit for both anyway):

Rises The Night (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #2) by Colleen Gleason

Title/Author: Rises The Night by Collen Gleason
Date finished: 9th February
Rating: ★★★★1/2
Review: Wow, who knows what's going to happen in these books? Very unpredictable, lots of action again and more players added to (and taken out of) the mix. I'm very into this series right now so I'll be moving onto the next one The Bleeding Dusk straight away :)

D.G. | 2752 comments Finished my book for the Supernatural shelf!

Angelfall by Susan Ee

Title/Author: Angelfall by Susan Ee
Read for shelf: Supernatural
Date finished: Feb 9th
Rating: ★★★★½
Review: This is a thought-provoking book, wrapped in an end the world setting. It may seem weird to mix a post apocalyptic world with heavenly beings but now that I think about it, I’m surprised this is the first “Apocalypses brought by Angels” story I’ve read, given that anybody who’s vaguely familiar with the Book of Revelation knows that angels and the end of world go hand in hand.

Although Penryn is only 17-years old, this is really grown-up book. The author doesn’t gloss over the terrible consequences of war, the realities of sexual desire or the question about the existence of God. They all have a place within the story and they are very well handled.

All I can say is that this book was terrific and that I cannot wait until book 2.

See full review here.

Yeah, I'm with you, Josie. Never know if I am glad or sad about series ending. I guess it's best to end them before they lose their appeal. I'm definitely interested to see how she ends it. Hope you enjoy it when you're able to return to the series.

For some reason I wasn't fully aware that the 'apocalypse brought by angels' was the vehicle for this story. Duh! I read all of Faith Hunter's 'Rogue Angel series and loved it and it has the same concept. I bought this back when Susan interviewed with Steph and now am sad I haven't read it yet. Time to push that up the TBR. :)

Looks like it's just me left. I promise I will have mine done shortly. Glad to see so many 4 and 4 1/2 star reviews. My team has great taste!

SHELF: Free Space

Firelight (Darkest London, #1) by Kristen Callihan

Title/Author:
Firelight by Kristen Callihan
Read for shelf: Free Space
Date finished: Feb 11
Rating: ★★★
Review: I should first clarify that I'm not a fan of historical paranormals. I always feel that these books are set in a historical setting to justify some weird aspect of the PNR plot. And this is exactly what happened in this book. There's no reason for this book to be set in the Victorian era, if you don't count that having a masked hero would look really weird in this day and age or that the heroine needed to have fire around to do her neat tricks.

I liked some things in the book. The paranormal aspect was original if a bit convoluted. Also, there was real emotion between the leads and you could see why there attracted to each other besides the physical. Both are people that hide a lot, that feel lonely and left out and they are definitely kindred spirits.

Now the things I didn't like. The book was set in the Victorian era but felt like a Regency. The paranormal plot was a mumbo jumbo of pseudo-myths of different cultures so it was difficult to figure out what was going on. The heroine too conveniently had exactly the power the hero needed for his salvation. There was a mystery, paired with a CID investigator, that was poorly handled and which society never sees a satisfactory solution, even though there were neon signs pointing at the hero.

Overall, not a bad first book but I'm not sure that I'm intrigued enough to read the sequel.

DG, great review; I have a feeling I'll feel the same about it b/c I feel the same about H-PNRs. I've got it TBR though, so we'll see.

Our next shelf announcement is up ~ 'ghosts'
Happy Reading, Everyone!
:)

I'm just about done with Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake which keeps getting put down for other books. And, of course it would'a been a perfect choice for this shelf. Oh well. Once I'm done with it, I'll pick another ghostly read and let ya know which I'm reading for the shelf.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Happy Reading, Twisted Sixes!

REVIEW: This is one of my favorite books. I love the whole tortured soul thing and Conrad Wroth fits the bill. I liked the part where he knew instantly that if he went into Elencourt Manor that he would be changed forever. Neomi is just like this is my home go tear up some other home. But they learned how to get past their differences and help each other out on their difficult situations. And Conrad in the process of destroying his foe got his heart pumping again. Neomi on the other hand got cut down. But with Conrad's mind anything is possible.

River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs

Title/Author: River Marked by Patricia Briggs
Read for shelf: Supernatural
Date finished: Feb 10
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ½
Review: There just isn't such a thing as a bad Mercedes Thompson book. Not even a mediocre one. They all just rock and that is that.

This book was so different from all of its predecessors and I really enjoyed it. All the others were awesome...this was just a different flavor of awesome. New setting, lots of Mercy/Adam time, more of Mercy's history/parentage, and tons more info on walkers than we have had in the past. Luuuuuved it!

This series is also fun for me because the stories are all set in my backyard. The Tri Cities is totally familiar since my family went there every 3 months when I was a kid for my dad's business trips. The Gorge is my 'hood though and having personal knowledge of the book's setting is always a treat.

So now I officially join the ranks of everyone else who has now come to the (current) end of the series. We can all sit and wait impatiently for the next book. It can't be too soon! ;)
