We though of making new room for individual reads to become multiple members read. So in this thread; you can talk about a book you want to read from the region and see if others would like to join you reading and discussing it in a suitable timing for you.

I just finished Girls of Riyadh, this week. It's an easy read. Worth reading for me as a westerner living in the region. I would join the discussion, too.

Hi all! I'm interested in reading Shahnameh: The Persian Book of Kings. (I have the Penguin translation by Dick Davis). If anyone else is interested, I was thinking of reading it this summer (starting June 2012). It looks like fun--let me know if you'd like to join me :)

Hello!
Sorry Marieke for not seeing your post earlier! Do you still want to read "Shahnameh: The Persian Book of Kings"? (I have the Penguin translation by Dick Davis)
If so, when would be a good month to start? I'll look forward to it! I think it would be fun to curl up with in the winter...want to start in November, anyone? And if that title doesn't sound particularly interesting, then here some shorter works that I could read instead...
- Specters by Radwa Ashour (Egyptian)
- Sabriya: Damascus Bitter Sweet by Ulfat Idilbi
Happy reading :)
Melanie

sounds good to me. Any time will be fine. I really hope it will be a good atmosphere for you then. I'll mark it in my calendar for now and we can discuss it then and see how things are going.

Angela December that would be great. My son is getting married first week of October. Everything I do now has to be easy and non-commital, until after wedding. I glanced at the previous discussion about Sicily will have to go back and read what you all wrote. My Dad is 100% Sicilian and very proud of it. I know he just looks at his 4 daughtets as half-breeds, even though my Moms family is totally from Southern Italy ......

I have read Leo the African for another book group and loved it. It's absolutely a read-aloud book. Too bad we couldn't do that. I am absolutely buried in books to catch up on but maybe by December. I would definitely re-read it.
