Seen a movie or series adapted from your favorite book and wished some things were made differently? Well, here you may open a thread about that movie and tell us what had bothered you - the casting, costume design, set decorations, film locations, the story itself. It would be also fun for the others to imagine how it would be like if you had your fingers in the making of the film ;-)

For an example I could open the thread called "Ben-Hur" and say - I think Charlton Heston would be better Messala and Stephen Boyd better Ben-Hur.
Or, Stewart Granger and Robert Ryan were considered for the role of Messala, as well as Burt Lancaster, Rock Hudson and Paul Newman for the main role. How that would be interesting...

There's almost always a flaw I find in casting or directing in a film adapted from a book/story. They are just so limited in how they can present onscreen things that are described beautifully on paper. For example, I loved how the scene takes place in The Return of the King in which the Ring is finally in Mount Doom. But the way it happened in the book (view spoiler)[Gollum leaping around for joy until he finally falls over the side, which is poetical in the book, (hide spoiler)] would look stupid on film. The Help, however, I think was very well cast and done well in film.

Hello ~ My question is off topic here -- but I'm still getting oriented to B2M and haven't yet found just the right place to ask it. Where, among all the many topics and options, might I find four or five adaptations of great personal interest to me? These may well have already been treated somewhere here on B2M, but so far they haven't turned up in the lists anywhere. Where might I go to best raise this question? Thank you.

Welcome Gene! It's all right, feel free to ask whatever you wish to know.

The lists we have here are based on the books we have read (in the club) and nominated for reading so far. If in the list of books we have read you haven't seen those books and film adaptations you are interested in, they probably weren't discussed - however, to be certain, you still may use search box up on the right here.

In any case, you may always make your own threads (topics) about them in Coffee & TV folder.

Currently we are in the nomination process for the book of January (January 2013 Monthly Read), the genre chosen by the poll is Romance / Drama. If one of your books may fit that genre, feel free to nominate it :)

Thank you, Zeljka, for the cordial welcome and helpful steering me in the right direction to find my answers. I'll try all three! ;- ) I'll search for the other four titles in the box you mentioned (adding to that the making of threads in the Coffee&TV folder). And, my nomination for January in the Romance/Drama genre would be the Jim Harrison novella Legends of the Fall, which was turned into the film of the same name -- with its interesting history of all that happened as it moved from start to finish. Looking forward to seeing how the vote turns out. Now, on to searching out the others and then to the Coffee&TV folder. -G.

As for your nomination, it would be better to post it right in the thread January 2013 Monthly Read, for other members' acknowledgement. I would like to read it too.

However, before you do that, could it be our Quick Read, like The Great Gatsby? We could nominate it in that section when the time comes (it will, very soon).

Thanks, Zeljka, for this suggestion as the next step. I'll attempt to do that very thing. If I botch it, please give me a guick nudge and "heads up" so I can get it done right. This is a particularly rich and illustrative instance of what's involved in books being turned into movies.
