I "rescued" this Kindle book

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/91...

by combining it with the other 3 valid editions of the book. Is this enough to save it?

Should I put in a note marking it as a Kindle edition? Most of the data will go away, as it is still sourced from amazon.

Otherwise, how do I truly rescue it?

Helen | 69 comments I think they have to stay marked as kindle editions.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Given the timeframe, it is my opinion that making a book that would be merged rather than deleted is a good compromise. (And I just did the same thing.)

I'll add a librarian note, but how do librarians verify these Kindle editions? They don't show up on WorldCat, so is everybody going to the author's sites? Do we just delete the amazon ASIN (or whatever that number is?)

Thanks, Helen!

If you have the book, you can verify by selecting that option rather than entering a website.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Please do not delete the ASIN or indeed ISBN's

Elizabeth (Alaska) I believe the ASIN number can remain. I read that in another thread.

I don't own the book; a rescue for a friend. All I did was stick it in with the other editions. All the data is still from amazon, but as long as I did what I should to save it from deletion, I'm happy.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 316 comments Yeah, the ASINs are staying, so just leave those alone and leave the format as Kindle Book. As for how to verify Kindle editions for your friends? You got me!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I found the author's website, and it said in her blog that the book was on Kindle! :) I just wanted to know if I needed to verify the ASIN, like I've been verifying ISBNs.

message:

Hi XXX,

I noticed that you are changing books with ASIN's to ebook rather than kindle editions.

Only Kindles have AISNs.

Is there a reason you are doing this as it is not GR policy and it will not have any effect on the rescue of books.

Thanks
Paula (Super librarian)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Yes keep Kindle as the format

Edit: I am also seeing kindle changed to paperback and hardback - when they are actually kindle editions

In addition, only put one author name in the author name field presented on the rescue form

Edit: Also author name is first name Last name format

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) | 66 comments thanks Paula...people are just getting confused about the whole Kindle edition/Amazon as a data source when these seem to be 2 totally separate things.
