Congrats on working towards your college degree! You're never too old. I just got mine last May at the age of 49.
I recently introduced myself in the M/M Romance group as an author, and will share some information of general interest here that I have not already shared.
I'm 45 and have been gay all my life (never had the desire to be with a girl). My first real relationship was when I was 19 and he was 54. It was a self-destructive relationship for both of us, and we persevered for 17 long years. The relationship ended in 2001/2002.
I've worked as a gay escort in my younger days, burned out on sex and relationships, and began to re-build my life (and personality) by attending college a few years ago. A couple years ago, a young man in a French class I was attending began to show an interest in friendship, and I let things happen as they chose to happen. On his 18th birthday we formally consummated our friendship and entered a trial relationship, putting a term limit on it of 90-days. 60 days later, we put it to an abrupt end--the relationship as a "trial" was causing too much stress so we simply admitted it was a formal relationship.
His mother promptly kicked him out of their house. I believe the exact words she said to him was "you've got a boyfriend... go live with him so I can rent out your room!" (written with laughter). He moved in with me, and now I think that sometimes his mother spends more time here than her place. His younger brother, 16 when we met, and 17 until just last January, who has had a terrible time learning how to have a heterosexual relationship, recently told us that "I hope I can have a relationship with a girl as good as your relationship is."
As far as being a member of the Queereaders group is concerned, I'm here to socialize, make new friends and discuss LGBT books.
I look forward to our future discussions.
Benjamin
