I'm gonna have to say The Infernal Devices is my favorite of the two. There's nothing wrong with The Mortal Instruments, because I'm obsessed with that series too, but I just liked The Infernal Devices better. It captured my attention and kept it locked up so that my eyes had no choice but to remain glued to the pages. The thing that made it my favorite is that I honestly could not see what was going to happen next. I loved both Will and Jem immensely and didn't want either of them to not get Tessa. This was just amazing to me. I've never been so clueless and undecided about a series before. This is definitely one of my top favorite series EVER,and will forever remain in that status! (But believe me, The Mortal Instruments comes close behind The Infernal Devices in my favorites, it's just that The Infernal Devices is a slight millimeter ahead.)

I have to say, I love TID just a little bit more than TMI, as the love triangle between Jem, Tessa, and Will, is absolutely amazing. I also love the ending a little bit more as i would not of expected what happened <3
While I do love both, I would have to say the Infernal Devices- the characters are much better developed and more fun to read about, the romance is much more intriguing, and the plot is more interesting.

Malec is Alec's and Magnus' couple name ccombined=)
Ma(Magnus)+lec(Alec)=Malec
I love both series. I love TID because of Will. And TMI because of Jace. Not because they are handsome, but because of everything that happened to them both.
It is an impossible choice to decide between TMI and TID they are both amazing!!! I just love both series way too much.
I love Will, yet I don't!! But I feel the same about Jace sometimes, so it's a hard choice. I can't choose.

Although I absolutely LOVE TMI so much, I think I liked TID a teensy-weensy bit more. The Victorian Era, The Love Triangle, Magnus.(: Oh, but I have to say, I think I liked Jace more than Will in TMI. In TID, Jem definitely stole my heart before Will. However, I almost think that I loved both series equally!
This is such a difficult decision to make because I love and adore the characters from both series. As of right of now, I am going to say "The Infernal Devices" because I just can't stop thinking about Will, Tessa, and Jem. I plan on re-reading both series, however, so I may change my opinion.
Infernal Devices for the win! I love Jem and all but I'm team Will. However, I bought the Collector's First Edition, and it turns out there's a Carstair's Herondale Lightwood Family tree. And I get spoiled that Will and Tessa end up naming their child after Jem, when I was still on the part where they were about to get married.
i have to say ID as i found the MI started to almost drag on. it should have ended on book 3. and i found book 4 pointless though book 5 was good it could almost have been the start of a completely new series.
Hmmm...for now I love TID more than TMI simply bcos its finished and had such a fantastic ending. Probably will change my mind when the next TMI book comes out.

It is a hard choice, but I prefer the Infernal Devices to the Mortal Instruments. I feel the characters are stronger and more connected, and I found it interesting that it is set in the Victorian times. I loved the Mortal Instruments, but I often felt frustrated with the characters, and felt that some of their actions were unnecessary, whereas in the infernal devices, most things happened for an obvious reason. overall I loved both series, and I recommend them to everybody.

The only thing was with the TMI I could guess what was going to happen, and the charters felt were a bit jumbled. Let face it Tessa is a much more interesting character then Clary.
So far I prefer the Infernal Devices over the Mortal Instruments because I've finished TID though I am on City of Fallen Angels in TMI.
I love both series, but there is no contest for me. ID is so much more passionate and trqgic. The love and loss creates a sort of Romeo and Juliette kind of mood. I love all of those types of books because the make me feel more emotion. Yes, MI did make me feel all sorts of feelings (some of which were especially unhappy with the couples), but just not the ones that make me want to sing with joy
TMI. It has more action and it has developed more. Its not that I don't like TID. It has its own importance for some things that are connected to TMI. But I think TID has more messed up emotions and relations than story. TMI has more story and it covers the life of all the characters.
I'll have to say I like the Infernal Devices better. Because I love how it is in the 1878s, it is really interesting to read about how it was then. For example when we get to know the Consul dosen't want Charlotte to run the Institute because she is a woman. And like some of you mentioned I really love the love triangle, and Will, Tessa and Jem were such amazing characters. Don't get me wrong, I love The Mortal Instruments to though. ;)
I prefer the Infernal Devices a bit more. I think the story and the setting is really interesting. I honestly love all the characters (especially Will <3) and well somehow I just enjoy it more than The Mortal Instrument (which I love too...!)
Now I prefer Infernal Devices! I really like the storyline, the characters especially William. Don't get me wrong ... I also love TMI but not quite desperate as TID.
i like The infernal devices, but The mortal instruments is my all time favourite. i like Wessa, but i adore Clace and Malec and i cannot wait for City of heavenly fire. TMI is probably my favourite series ever.
Infernal devices!!! Mainly due to the poignancy of the shadowhunter love triangle. Its so easy to relate to and its got me up all night trying to pick a team. I LOVE YOU WILL!!! (and Jem)
I love TID. I read TMI first and while I absolute love it and it will be with me always, I feel so much more attached to the characters and scenery of TID. However, I like the plot of TMI better.
I think I was more emotionally attached to the characters of TID, but I like the story line much better in TMI. But it may change depending on COHF
It is quite a hard decision to make. I fell in love with shadowhunters when I was first reading TMI. But TID has brought many tears to my eyes while I was reading. Then again, so has TMI. I think I do like TMI better just because it was my first introduction to the shadow world and it will stay with me forever.
Even though TMI was out first I prefer the Infernal Devices. To me TID is better ground story and is a lot more inviting. Then there's Will...
I love both, but I have some special feelings for each saga. TMI was the first shadowhunter saga I read, and it made me laugh really hard and fell in love with Cassie's books.
But then there's TID, which made me cry AND laugh like crazy, and I love Will so much....and so I did with Jace in it moment.
I like that there is more action in TMI, but I love the love story in TID.
So, yeah, I can't really choose. :)
I liked the characters of the infernal devices better than the mortal instruments but I cant say the mortal instruments was bad. That was the book that inspired me to start writing. The TMI were funny but the TID were so happy and heartfelt... Cant choose!!
I love both of them, to be honest there were parts in CoFA where I thought things were dragging or a bit unessecary but that's just because it was no longer a trilogy so she had to change it to a series. So yay!
And I'm loving both of the series!
The Infernal Devices for me. I love TMI and the characters in it but TID made me cry and feel for characters like no other series has. I was sobbing, tears clouding my glasses by the time I finished the epilogue in Clockwork Princess. I think its really special that a book can touch you like that so thats why I say I like TID more. That doesn't mean that I don't love Clary, Jace, and the rest of theTMI characters or that I don't like the story though.
Mine used to be TID, but after CP2...uh...so I guess I have no opinion. Besides, choosing TMI because of Malec and Maia+Jordan might be a little much.
This is hard... At first i thought I would say TMI, but now i'm not sure... I think I'd have to go with TID. This is because I love the setting. I've always loved old London, when girls had to wear big fancy dresses. Also, I love Jace to a million pieces, i really do, but there is something about Will and his sacrifice and, i don't know.... his inner torments that feel a little more real. Also I think I understand Tessa more then I understand Clary. Tessa is just someone i can relate to more. I still don't know if I completely agree with my own arguments, because i LOVE both books SO MUCH!!!! But I'm choosing TID for now... I'll let you know if I change my mind.
I would have to say TID because the characters were so much better, IMHO. (Maybe it had to do with it being set in the Victorian era) I read it before TMI, so it took a spot in my heart first. I really enjoyed the author's unique view of love that she incorporated into the story and made such a rare ending out of. Plus, with TID being written after TMI, I think Clare's writing style really improved. Then again, I have completed TID and have only read the first two in TMI, so I don't know the whole story of it yet, but I'm pretty sure my opinion will stay the same.
Probably the The Mortal Instruments... for now. The third book from Infernal Devices is supposed to come out soon so my opinion might change.

Clockwork Princess has been out here in the US since March, I believe.
