Hello! I'm helping out with the discussions again. (I love to help.) It's time for the discussion of The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler. Let's get started shall we!

What do you think of the book having two authors? I personally didn't have a problem. I often wondered who wrote what parts. Did Jay Asher write Josh's chapters while Carolyn Mackler wrote Emma's chapters? That was something that I was thinking of.

What did you think of the main characters? I really liked Emma and Josh. I thought that Jay and Carolyn created these characters quite well. I love that they gave them each activities outside of school like jogging around the park for Emma and skateboarding for Josh. They did a really good job with the dialogue of the teenagers and their actions as well. Loved it.

What was your favorite part of the book? I think my favorite part was the ending when Emma and Josh starting talking again (with their friends interference) and they were holding hands. I would like to know if there is a sequel in the works. I'm pretty sure I know what happens between Emma and Josh but it would be good to have a sequel.

What did you think of the book as whole? I really enjoyed the book as whole. I enjoyed the characters, and the whole just getting AOL and then having Facebook even though it isn't invented yet. I was actually thinking about what I was doing back in 1996 and where I was and how old I was and everything. So this book took me back to my earlier years and this book was just an all around fascinating read I thought.

Okay everyone, What did you think of the book?

Katherine (onehappykat) | 25 comments Wow... No one has anything to say about this book? Sad!

I ultimately really enjoyed it. I appreciated having two different authors write the story, because you definitely got a clear sense of voice. They were very distinct characters and I could tell them apart easily. Interesting to compare how they addressed the issue of keeping two characters different to Destined, which approached the issue in a very different way. While both books made it work, I liked how this one did it better.

It's been a while since I read it, but I really liked Josh. He just seemed like an ordinary guy. Emma seemed so whiny and I wasn't her biggest fan. I was fascinated at how they lived their lives, and loved all the 90's references. It made me nostalgic for when life wasn't so dominated by technology. And seeing their reactions to Facebook was hilarious! I loved how they made fun of or questioned the things that have become the norm these days. And the ripple effect was really clever. I always wonder how my life might be different if I'd made certain choices differently, even the little ones. So seeing their effects in The Future of Us was entertaining, to say the least.
