Laura (apenandzen) Anyone know of a fiction book with an accountant or tax preparer as a main character? I can't find any

:(

Thanks in advance!

message 207: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa | 137 comments Thanks Fiona!

Laura (apenandzen) Thanks, Titch. I'm still looking for one that seems interesting. Hey but you found more than I did!

message 213: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylwray) | 3 comments How do you find a challenge? I saw someone mention a Books of Christmas challenge (where you read books that start with each letter of C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S). I thought this was a great idea, but don't know where to find info about it.

Thanks!

message 214: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments Cynthia- 1 question would American Bride count as the politic/politician book for 15 points?

message 222: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Cynthia, ur gonna laugh at me. Cos u said no to Cupid Effect. I borrowed a book from library called Dancer - Colum McCain (hehe).

message 223: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylwray) | 3 comments Thanks Fiona. I wandered around and found the Pick a Shelf group and joined it. Even though it's after Dec. 1, I think I may try the challenge. I just finished my latest novel, so I can pick up a new one now.

message 229: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 18 comments Oops, I scrolled further down and found a thread about books about nurses, so I am all set, sorry!

message 230: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Laura - I used a database that I have access to through my library called Novelist to come up with the book suggestions.

Alyssa - lol

Jasmine - nurse book suggestions...
Doctors and Nurses: A Novel
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Double Blind

message 231: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments ok, I'm going to get a late start. I've decided to finish the HP I'm on, and the #6 and #7 will count towards the challenges.

message 232: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments Yes American Wife is what I meant. Thanks.

message 233: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Thanks so much, Cynthia and Fiona! I will be checking those books out! :)

message 234: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I have another question...I am a protestant. For the religion one, could I read Escape by Carolyn Jessop. It is about FLDS which is an entirely different belief

message 235: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments For the Religion one it doesn't have to be complete opposite - for example I'm Baptist and I'm reading a book about Catholicism but I could also have chosen to read about Methodism, Judaism, Greek Orthodox anything other than Baptist. So again as long as it isn't exactly the same as you then it counts.

message 236: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 18 comments Thanks Cynthia :)

message 238: by Bird (new)

Bird (thebird) Task completed...

#7. Read A Book Whose Title Starts With The Word Who, What, Where, When, Why Or How: The Cat Who Said Cheese (Lilian Jackson Braun)

Total: 5 points

message 239: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Bird - I'm afraid the title has to start with a who what where etc. word so that doesn't count because who is actually the 3rd not the 1st word in the title.

message 240: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Thanks Cynthia for your suggestions on the school counselor. I recently read Notes From the Underbelly and I was thinking "too bad I already read the only book where the main character was a school counselor"... I will have to check the other books out!.

Lisa | 437 comments Points so far - 20
Read a library book - Where Three Roads Meet by Salley Vickers
Read a book with Christmas in the title - A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Read a book about China - Sky Burial by Xinran (which came in handy for the A-Z author challenge)

message 242: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Just a side note Lisa is that your dog in the picture - if it is my family owns three weimaraners (plus a bunch of others) - just thought that was a coincidence.

message 243: by Cynthia (new)

message 244: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Cynthia, as I don't have any religion, can I read abouy any religion for that task?

message 245: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Changing the Winter book to Christmas (makes sense if I am already readin it for another challenge lol).

Task 8 for 5pts will be A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens (sorry for confusion, as I am still readin it)

message 246: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Jeane & anyone else who is not religious - you may read a book about any religion although preferably it should be one that is not part of your background - i.e. your famiky is Jewish but you yourself don't practice Judaism you should still try and choose a book about one of the other religions - or you may choose to read a book about more than one religion.

message 247: by Lindsey (new)
