Ros Well I helped at the warehouse as I always do just over 24 thousand shoeboxes were sent off from the Chelmsford warehouse. This was down on last years numbers but it seems it was the same everywhere. Well I have to wait before I can apply to got out again but my sister is off to Kygastin spelt wrong in March. It was going to be Febuary but it has been put back because the boxes have been held up due to red tape (legal stuff. She is really looking forward to it and I am jelous as I would love to be going. Hopefully I will get the chance to do it again I went in 2006 and they give priority to those who havent been before but after 5 years you dont have to mention you have been before. So may be 2012 I could go somewhere. Looking forward to hearing about my sister trip as its long than what I did. Yes alot more expensive than the trip I did too and possibly more injections than I had to have.

I have been naughty and brought some books today didnt need too but did.

I got The Front - Patricia Cornwell
Members only - Leonie Fox
Sahara and Treasure of Khan - Clive Cussler
Frankie - Kevin Lewis

I got 3 Lisa Garner books from the library just have one to find so I can read them all as part of series.

I shall be posting soon with update on what I have done for challenge.

message 1279: by Jon (last edited Jan 15, 2009 05:01AM) (new)

Jon Ros - do you ever feel your over-reading? I've been reading at a pace unheard of for me for this task and although thrilling to look at how many books ive managed to get through and my postion on the leader board for the challenge, i have to say that after hitting the 200 points mark ive kind of made a conscious decision to have a bit of a go-slow, and not be thinking so much about finishing my book almost as soon as ive started. Im on the Bone people which is 500 odd pages and have decided just to savour it a bit more. I read the Joy-Luck club in one single day off (about 330 pages) but sort of felt like i was on such a mission and also not allowing myself to do other stuff that day, that It kind of did it a disservice.

Anywho - just having a philosophical moment! Im just experimenting with savouring the language of my current book a bit more. The task has certainly made me cover a lot of interesting territory though. And beleive me i was becoming a hermit BEFORE the challenge lol - but theres DVDs and learning piano to compete with, its not like im a social butterfly :)

message 1280: by Ros (new)

Ros Well I think due to the fact I was so busy in November due to helping with shoeboxes I appreciated the reading more as didnt have as much time in November.

I am going to get back to the gym this year. Hopefully tomorrow. Losing my weight again is my biggest challenge at the moment.

As everyone is telling me I have 6 weeks now till the next challenge so I can read what I want.

Well I have 3 library books but cant read the last one to I have found a copy of a book I am missing as its a part of a series.

message 1281: by Eva-Marie (new)

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) I just finished a 25 pointer! :)

1. Karen's Task - Read a book about / set in / or by an author of a country with a name that starts with the first letter of your name (first / middle / last). Example - If your name is John - you could read a book about Japan, set in Jamaica, or written by an author from Jordan. http://www.listofcountriesofth...

The Weight Of All Things- Sandra Benitez

The Weight Of All Things was set in El Salvador and my first name is Eva Marie.
VERY VERY good book in case anyone is interested. I probably would have never looked twice at this book if I wasn't looking for it for this challenge and I am so thankful I did. I found a new great author too because I'm excited to check out her others!

Total points- 90

message 1282: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i have a question about the 15 point task: read a book and it's sequel. the books should be read back to back.

do the books have to be a true series, such as Harry Potter or Twilgiht, or can thet be a "loose" series? i was going to read two from Susan Elizabeth Philips, and they are referred to as the Chicago Stars series, because they all have a main character associated with the Stars, and many of the characters are in all of the books.

thanks!

message 1283: by Sarenna (new)

Sarenna (djsthree) | 63 comments Congrats Ros! I'm very impressed that you completed the challenge already.

5 POINTS:
5. Pick 10 Books From Your TBR List, Put The Titles Pieces Of Paper, And Pick One Out Of A Basket Or A Hat Whatever You Can Find, And Then Read That Book.

Undead and Uneasy - Mary Janice Davidson

message 1290: by Eva-Marie (new)

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) Elizabeth- I haven't read anything you mentioned but I plan on checking the names out tonight. This wasn't something I'd have ever picked up in not for this specific challenge because the "like" stories I've picked up in the past were always boring to me, going on and on about minute details of terrain and things of that nature.
This looked to be something, even if I didn't like, that I could get through. I was AMAZED that I loved it from page 1. From the first paragraph really.
I would definitely say to check it out- I'm not big on fiction at all but I really, really liked this a lot!
(Glad I could possibly help someone for that challenge because I did a lot of hunting for what I used! LOL)
