Has anyone read - Underworld by Delillo - im procrastinating big time on the 700p challenge, I did use challenge as excuse for second hand book purchase today though and came home with Underworld. I really have to phyche myself info a big weighty tome though, Im not sure ive ever read anything that long!

Jeane, it was okay - it was actually my first Agatha Christie/Hercule Poirot novel so I didn't have much to compare it to - though I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, so those I expect similar with other "classic" mystery writers. But I liked it enough that I will read more!
El, you might try to see which character you like msot in her books. Poirot, Miss Marple, Tommy and Tupence.....

Kitchen? It was ok. I didn't realize it was 2 different stories. When I got to the second one, I kept waiting for it to tie into the first one and never did.
Finally, I finished another task! Lord I need another Christmas break or a blizzard so I can keep up with my reading. My teaching gig is interfering too much.For 25 points

Why do you think it was so hard for you to get into Persuasion, Heather? I agree that it's not my favorite (I also liked P&P and Emma a lot better) but I just read it in November and enjoyed it. Although it didn't hurt that it was coming at a time in my life when its message was perhaps more pertinant than usual.

What did you think of it, bnoir? I read his NY Trilogy and had to throw it out the window... I found it totally irritating, even if well written.
well I love paul auster. but I know other people that have that kind of reaction to him. I think he is one of those authors we hate or love. in the country of last things is sligthly different from auster usual stories, it steal pretty much a weird tale but whit un holaucastic side.

We Are All Welcome Here: A Novel by Elizabeth Berg. I'm a Berg fan, and this one is def. worth the read. I learned some things about the Civil Rights period that were real eye-openers.

I really don't feel the story really started or picked up until around page 75 (out of 180 pages). I did find it funny and I liked the story after I finished it.

The book I read was less than 100 pages. Thank you.Bonnie, I'm the same way with Robin McKinley's books. The only one I got into right away was Beauty. I just got Rose Daughter so I'm going to be starting that soon.
Beauty was one of the only Robin McKinley books I got into easily, too! I think you'll like Rose Daughter. I like both Beauty and Rose Daughter but which one I like better usually depends on which I read first. The first time I liked Rose Daughter better (I'd read that first, only a week or two before Beauty; it took me longer to get into, but after finishing both I came down on the side of Rose Daughter). I re-read them last summer and read Beauty first this time and liked it better.
I finally finished Oliver Twist, and I cannot use it for a SINGLE category, lol. It was like...604 pages long. Long, but not long enough!
