how to enter german edition series with different numbering

The way I found works best for me in such cases is the following:
I add the split German editions to the main series entry and number them as "book 1, part 1"/"book 1, part 2" etc. That way a reader will now, that the book is part of that particular series and also sees that the German edition is only half/third/quarter or whatever of the original book. Through the series link the reader can also access the original editions, which I find very handy. That's the way I did it with the German audiobooks for A Song of Ice and Fire. (Series listing)
The split books should not be combined with the original work, because the content is not identical (this is the accepted practice and I'm sure it is also in the librarian manual).
I had previously the idea to make a separate series for split editions, but somehow that might get book pages a big cluttered. I'd certainly only add that specific series as secondary series and also keep the entries in the primary series. One thing you might also consider is the following: When you add a "language-specific" series, it might occur that an edition in another language becomes more popular and then that edition will appear in the series listing.

That is a great suggestion which reallys solves my problem! I never thought of editing the book number field of the series
though now I remember seeing such extended entries before. Thanks!
the original titles where split into 2-3 separate books in the german translation, e.g. part 1 "necroscope" was split into "das erwachen" and "vampirblut". Thus, I combined both german books with "necroscope". However, the series numbers now are wrong. While both books belong to part 1 of the original series, they are known as part 1 and 2 of the german necroscope series. I thought about adding an additional series for the german necroscope series, but as it is also named "necroscope" that does not work. So what should I do here?
