Angela What an interesting thread. I am interested if Nina has indeed read 1984 and what she thought of it.

I reread it during the 2008 Presidential election. While I was reading it, I thought, "Nah, it didn't happen." But later, when I was watching the news and listening to the outright lies and mistruths... I shook my head. Our leaders DO rewrite their history to better fit their needs. They do attempt to tell us that 2+2=5. And if we like them, we believe them. American journalism has morphed into the Ministry of Truth. I think we all should reread this book from time to time to shake ourselves awake from our stupor.

Marco Antonio Yes, you should read it! It's not for everyone thou, the story is suffocating, frightening, hopeless and impressive. You can skip the part where the main character reads a certain theory book, you can read that after you finish. One of the few books I read more than once, because its terribly fun. Emphasis on terror.

I personally don't like the book because I thought that it was confusing. Some part of it was boring to me. If anyone still wants to read you can if you are curious to what it is about. I can admit 1984 was the first Dystopia book I have read. It was interesting to read a different kind of genre.

Riley Hill This book was horrifying for its time, and is even more so now, because its predictions have come true, for the most part. What's horrifying now is that the current generation can't possibly understand the loss of freedoms that this book predicted, as they've been raised without them. The book is a classic for good reason, but people now have to read it in reverse: what was the world like before [free] to make the incidents in this book seem so terrible? One of the greatest books of all time.

Anastasia シ NO DONT BOTHER READING THIS NOVEL IT IS BORING AND YOU WILL EVENTUALLY FEEL LIKE RIPPING IT IN A MILLION PIECES AND BURNING THE HELL OUT OF IT!

UNFORTUNATELY I'M STUCK READING IT BECAUSE OF SCHOOL!

THIS NOVEL IS VERY DISTASTEFUL

Jason I read this over the summer and can't recommend it highly enough. I would easily say that it is one of the best books I have ever read. I have a certain fondness for dark and dystopian literature so I'm slightly biased.

Zoran Krušvar Nina wrote: "is this book worth my time?"

Look, this is a serious book for smart people who like to read books on important subjects, books that make you think about the world and so on.

If you are into such books, take it, it's great.

If you are more into "shut your brain and let's go shopping for shoes" kind of books, than leave this one alone.

Tobias Niell It will change your life.
