Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments Hi Dustin, & welcome.

If you're looking for a vampire to turn you, just start a new discussion topic in the Humans Seeking Sires thread. Just be careful, though. There's a few sharks out there who will take your blood and not deliver the goods.

Brian McKinley | 15 comments Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and goodreads in general, but I actually wrote an entire blog post about this topic and plan to do more here on my website:

http://brianpatrickmckinley.webs.com/...

I decided to go with the scientific/viral approach because I wanted to go for as realistic a story as possible, so I wanted to make readers believe that my Vampyrs could really be out there, hidden in our world.

They don't have many weaknesses of the traditional vampire, but are vulnerable to sunlight (just to keep them from doing everything) and most of their "powers" are simply the human body used to its peak along with some psychic abilities. Immortality, wealth, and the political control they wield is their real power.

Here's the link to it on Goodreads if you want to give it a look:

I look forward to posting in some of the other discussions and meeting more of you!

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments Hi Brian,

I also like a healthy dose of reality mixed in with my vampires - see my description of Suzie.

Best wishes & good luck,
Frank

Brian McKinley | 15 comments Frank,

Suzie and the monsters sounds good too! Good luck with that!

K.V. Witten | 40 comments I'm with Francis - I like my vampires to have a 'healthy dose of reality'. I also like thinking about how would a vampire really act/feel.

For example, would a vampire really feel conflicted about killing humans??

Why would they? Do humans go around agonizing over the chicken sandwich they had for lunch?

The vampire in my novel views his killing humans as morally superior to humans killing pigs because he does it to survive while humans do it just because they like the taste of cooked flesh.

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments There are subtleties, of course. Is it necessary to kill the human? Does the vampire place value in emotional connection with humans? I mean, it's one thing to grab a sandwich for lunch, and something else to kill an animal who has been your companion for years.

Hi, K., by the way. Are you still writing, of has your vampire slipped his leash yet?

I agree that there is a difference. But I think vampires (and humans) don't really have a problem differentiating between subsets of groups. For example, I have family, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, neighbors, etc. etc. I treat them all differently. A vampire could still value human friends, yet not feel at all bad about killing other humans.

After five years, he finally 'slipped the leash' a couple of weeks ago. But I should warn you that he is not a 'supernatural' -type vampire. (I invite you to check out the thread 'Real Vampires?' in the forum for a better explanation.)

Anyway, the book is 'Helmort : The Story That Inspired 'Dracula'...' and here are some links.

If anyone here is interested, I'd be happy to send them a gift copy for either the kindle or nook. I haven't done any marketing (because I don't really know how). A review would be appreciated but obviously not required.
