It just means that I'm very choosy about my samples. If I can get it used in print for less, then I won't buy the e-version. If I can get it from the library in either print or e-book format, then that's what I'll do. I've had to limit the number of print books I buy very severely. If the agency model remains in place, then I'll also be severely limited in the number of e-books I can purchase. I imagine that in this economy I'm far from the only one in this position. Amazon probably realizes that and knows that they will be losing a great many sales with current e-book pricing.
The ebook agency model does add a clear cut price incentive to shop around for the best format and lowest or free price for our books! Being choosy is the way I go too; I first ask myself, --can I download it from Overdrive or get it from the library? That is the first consideration I make before purchasing an ebook, or selecting an audio book, often delaying the acquisition of a new title. Buying print almost never fits in my model ;)

Buying print almost never fits in my model ;) ..."Ditto, Ann. I almost never read a coveted new release (Child, Sandford, Connelly, etc ) as soon as I would like to for that very reason. And that's okay, my pocketbook thanks me.




Amended Price Fixing Complaint Ramps Up Pressure on Publishers, Apple

In an amended complaint filed January 20, Hagens Berman, the law firm chosen in December to consolidate the class action lawsuits charging that Apple and major publishers conspired to fix e-book prices, argued that the adoption of the agency model has driven up the cost of e-books by as much as 50%, costing consumers millions of dollars.
