He nodded. "Perhaps another time. Well, I'm off to find Arrika. I'll see you soon." He turned and strode away, determined to find her.

Luke appeared in the forest with Arrika.

Mara tugged the pups close to her, looking up in surprise. She smiled when she recognized the pair. "Luke, Priestess Arrika."

"Hi, Mara." He grinned.

"You're here and human!" She exclaimed, bowing to Arrika and standing.

[Christi]

Luke laughed, nodding once. "Yeah, Priestess Arrika and the goddess Lunaris helped me out.

"I told you they would." Arrika walked over, picking up each of the pups and kissing their heads before setting them back down.

"Tell your brother that I will return next new moon." She left.

"How are you?" Luke asked Mara.

"I am well. As you can see, I am babysitting." She gestured at the pups by her feet. "How hard is it to hold your form?"

[Christi]

"It's actually not bad now that I'm fully human. It was just hard to make the actual transition."

"Do you have to focus to stay human with the moon still high?"

[Christi]

"Yeah, a bit."

"So it would be best if we didn't do anything too mentally taxing until you become accustomed to it."

He nodded in agreement. He hadn't even thought about it until she'd pointed it out. "Good idea."

"Would you like to meet the quadruplets?"

"Of course." He smiled.

"Here is Aden, Bree, Cole and Dawn." She pointed at each one.

"Hey there," Luke greeted them awkwardly. He'd never been too great with children.

The wolf pups yipped, continuing to play at her feet.

Luke smiled as he watched them. "Where are the other two?"

"They're in the house, down for their naps. Alis is watching over them."

"Ah, I see." He nodded.

"They're just as cute as these four." She giggled.

Grinning, he acknowledged, "They are pretty adorable."

"How have things been these past few days?"

"Not bad. Just a bit tiring. What about you?"

She shrugged. "Same old, same old."

He nodded slowly. "I see."

"Sure, thank you." Luke sat down on the soft earth.

Mara sank down cautiously and the pups pounced on her. She laughed loudly, hugging them all.

He tentatively reached out to stroke one. "May I?"

"Sure. That's Dawn, she's the sweetest of the bunch."

Smiling, he scratched behind her ears. "Hey, Dawn."

The pup yipped, wagging her tail.

"She's going to be Beta one day."

[Christi]

"What exactly does that mean, anyway?" Luke inquired, still scratching Dawn's ears. "You asked me once if I was a Zeta. Are those all just ranks?"

"They are, but they also tell just how strong you are within the pack structure."
