Lauren Smith Yep, that's the one. I requested it too. Might not get it though, if the the criteria are the same as Knopf Doubleday's.

Mmm. Let me know if you get it. Based on the criteria I'm not even going to try. Seems they can't send to anyone outside the US.

message 53: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Oh crap. Bloody copyright...

message 54: by Chrizette (new)

Chrizette | 906 comments I loved Robopocalypse! Hope we get a chance :) Let us know what happens please Lauren.

message 55: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Will do :)

message 56: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Whoop! I got Amped :)

message 57: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ooh, I also got auto-approved by Amped's publisher, Knopf Doubleday - woohoo!

message 58: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
That's awesome, especially the auto-approval.

message 59: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Tried to download it from Amazon and was told the document wasn't available though, hmph. This happened to me the other day as well, so I'll try again tomorrow before contacting Amazon or the publisher.

message 60: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith As it turns out the problem was my fault, so I've got my copy of Amped now, yay!

message 61: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Orbit has made two 2011 publications available to request:
Equations of Life (Samuil Petrovitch, #1) by Simon Morden and The Company Man by Robert Jackson Bennett

I've got that one in PB from the Kalahari sale.

Nadine May (nadinemay) | 41 comments Lauren wrote: "Welcome N! Are you new to NetGalley as well, or just Goodreads?"

Just Goodreads. what is NetGalley?

message 67: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Nadine wrote: "Just Goodreads. what is NetGalley?"

NetGalley is a website where "professional readers" - librarians, booksellers, bloggers, reviewers - can gain access to electronic review copies of books from a wide variety of publishers. The reason I asked is that this thread is about NetGalley - the latest books, what we got, etc.

message 68: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein will be available as "read now" until 15 May. I bought it last month and started reading last night - so far it's really good.

message 69: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Here's another Read Now:
http://www.netgalley.com/PopupHandler...

The Loners by Lex Thomas

There are several other Read Now YA titles from Egmont USA: http://www.netgalley.com/index2.php?m...

Think it is something I would like?

message 72: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm wondering about that one too...

message 73: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Oh wait, they're not accepting blogger requests for Code Name Verity at the moment :(

message 74: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Lauren wrote: "Oh wait, they're not accepting blogger requests for Code Name Verity at the moment :("

How does that work then? If it's "read-now" but not available for review? :(

message 75: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Oh wait, yes that's a good point. Sorry! They just have a note about not approving blogger requests, but that must be old.

message 76: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Lu (The Muggle) wrote: "Think it is something I would like?"

I hate recommending books when anyone asks me if they'd like it. If the book turns out not to be to that person's taste, I always feel like I've wasted their time.

There's a 20 page preview over here, so do take a look.

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
With Lu it is easy, if it is something that is vaguely similar to Harry Potter she'll like it and you can recommend it if it is not don't recommend it :P

message 78: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Hahaha! Better not read it then, Lu. They use actual planes to fly. No broomsticks in sight. :P

message 79: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Lol

I have quite a bit of netgalley books now anyway, it needs to really call to me for me to request it :)

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass is on Netgalley!

message 81: by Lu (new)

Nevermind I got this:
"Unfortunately, HarperCollins UK is currently only allowing UK and Ireland, and in some cases other European country based reviewers to download titles via NetGalley"

message 82: by Lu (last edited May 02, 2012 07:44AM) (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
By the way ti does'nt even say HarperCollins UK. It just says HarperCollins - I actually went to see what their criteria was and couldn't find a HarperCollins that is stand alone. I checked there books and there was this and one other. Sigh :(

message 83: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments You can always buy it if you are desperate. :P

message 84: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Yea :)

message 85: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith For those who need an 'X' character for the A-z character challenge, NetGalley has a YA fantasy featuring shapeshifters, with a character named Ximon:
Otherkin by Nina Berry

NetGalley page here: http://www.netgalley.com/PopupHandler...

message 86: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Anyone get anything good on NetGalley recently?

I got Bad Glass by Richard E. Gropp, which the marketing guys say should appeal to fans of Lost and House of Leaves.

I'm waiting patiently for Orbit and Night Shade Books to add some new arcs. They've had the same stuff for ages!

message 87: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I am dying to hear if I get to read Burn for Burn and Love and Other Perishable Items.

Then there are 2 items that I requested MONTHS ago that the publishers havn't done anything about...

message 88: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I've got one really old one too. I should actually just delete, because the book isn't even on the site anymore!

Publishers can be sloppy sometimes. I hate that some - like Orbit - don't categorise their books according to genre, so they don't come up on the genre lists, and sometimes not even on the list of recent stuff. So I have to search by publisher too, or I'll miss out on some really cool arcs.

message 89: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Yea I have to search by publisher often otherwise I miss it.

Yea might aswell delete those. They won't affect my stats will they?

message 90: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Lu (The Muggle) wrote: "Yea might aswell delete those. They won't affect my stats will they?"

No, I don't think so. You can delete it in the requests section, and it won't be listed as declined or anything.

Sometimes I get two approvals for the same book, and then I'm not sure what to do. Should I delete one, or just fill out the same review details for both entries?

message 91: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Why would you get two?

message 92: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Lu (The Muggle) wrote: "Why would you get two?"

I think sometimes I accidentally re-send the request if I press the back button and then forward to that page again. Other times I think it might be the publisher's error, or some other glitch.

message 93: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Very strange! I think just fill out both entries.

message 95: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Anyone request/receive anything recently? NetGalley's been a bit slow for me recently, although I haven't been in the mood for a thorough search.

message 96: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Tor/Forge has some fantasy romance titles http://www.netgalley.com/index2.php?m...
The Last Page by Anthony Huso Fair Game (Guardian, #3) by Taylor Keating Immortal Surrender (The Curse of the Templars, #2) by Claire Ashgrove In a Fix by Linda Grimes

And this one, whose title made me laugh:
Jane The Woman Who Loved Tarzan by Robin Maxwell

message 97: by Chrizette (new)

Chrizette | 906 comments I agree, Lauren, Netgalley has been kinda sluggish lately.

message 98: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith For those who have kept up with Jasper Fforde's Thursday next series, the latest novel is now available for request: http://www.netgalley.com/PopupHandler...
The Woman Who Died a Lot (Thursday Next, #7) by Jasper Fforde The Woman Who Died A Lot (Thursday Next. #7) by Jasper Fforde

message 99: by Lauren (last edited Jul 10, 2012 05:06AM) (new)

Lauren Smith I don't fancy my chances of getting this since Random House is rather strict, but I couldn't resist sending a request for:
The Passage (The Passage, #1) by Justin Cronin
http://www.netgalley.com/PopupHandler...

Random House also has these:
Wards of Faerie The Dark Legacy of Shannara by Terry Brooks Lake Country A Novel by Sean Doolittle Bad Glass by Richard E. Gropp Blades of Winter (Shadowstorm, #1) by G.T. Almasi Dearly, Beloved A Zombie Novel (Gone With the Respiration #2) by Lia Habel
and a few others that looked interesting.

message 100: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I thought NetGalley was slow, but it looks like the nice books are hiding. I requested these from Bloomsbury:
John Saturnall's Feast by Lawrence Norfolk The Uninvited by Liz Jensen The Pirates! in an Adventure with the Romantics (The Pirates! #5) by Gideon Defoe
