Thanks for the link. I read Willy and will try to read The Pines one day since everyone raves about it.

Charlene, rather than repeating myself, here's a link to my review:

Hey, folks. How nice to find people chatting about my work. Charlene -- "Gatorman" has a point. Willy is not for everyone. It is, for instance, far from being a conventional horror novel. If that's what you're looking for, you might want to consider The Pines or The Shore. But the readers who like WILLY seem to like it very much indeed, and responses have been passionate. The title has appeared on eight or nine "best of the year" lists that I'm aware of and has now shown up on the preliminary Stoker ballot. Professional reviews have also been outstanding. But I have to admit to feeling a certain fascination for the Goodreads' reviews -- even the negative ones. (Nothing else makes you feel quite so connected to the readers.)
If you sample a few, it should give you a sense of whether the book is for you or not. I'm pretty sure you can find them by clicking on the link below.
I hope this is useful to you too, Kyle. And I really appreciate your wanting to read my work.
Tressa, I did see your review for WILLY and was grateful for your kind words. You're thinking about THE PINES? My first attempt at fiction, that book will always have a special place in my heart, but keep in mind it is very much a genre novel. If you're interested in something closer to the level of sophistication you responded to in WILLY, I might suggest MARTYRS & MONSTERS for you.
Thanks for taking an interest, folks. If you ever feel like dropping by my site, you'll find lots of links to reviews and interviews and articles and such.

Thanks again!

I've only heard wonderful things about The Pines, and do plan to read it one day. I like all kinds of horror, I just don't like when horror plots/characters/denouements are similar to hundreds of other horror stories I've read. Give me something original and I'm happy as a clam. I'll definitely check M&M out. Thanks, Robert.
Thanks, Scott -- it's always so gratifying when somebody really gets it. (God, writers are pathetic.) Thanks, Tressa. I hope you'll enjoy M&M. It and WILLY have both meant a lot to me.
Robert, my problem with Willy was not that it wasn't conventional horror. I have no problem with horror stories that take different paths. I just didn't feel that the path Willy took was all that interesting to me, with all due respect. It was very well written and I would definitely check out your other stories on that basis alone.
No problem, dude. You're entitled to your own tastes. (Everyone keeps telling me how brilliant THE HELP is. I swear, I just can't get through it -- like watching paint dry.)
I have a Dunbar book at home, but am not sure of the title. It may be The Pines, though. I'll check when I get home and will be more than happy to give it to you.

Haha, same here with the OCD, Amy.

Amy wrote: "See? This was the last I'd heard on the book, T..."Who knows what thread I posted it on. Probably some way off subject thread that you were posting in and I happened to see you. I'm crossing my fingers that your order will be canceled. I'd hate for you to have to pay for something you don't need to.
I've been trying to catch up on all these unread threads, sure you've noticed. If there weren't so many, I'm sure I'd have caught it in my notifications. But, you're right, FB is easier. Not only am I ALWAYS there, I also get notifications on my phone.
I have noticed you've been catching up and I'm glad to see you back at HA. I will contact you on FB about important stuff from now on. It is easy to lose info. in all these threads. And notifications at GR are iffy at times.
"Vampires and werewolves, mermaids and witches ... even the Jersey Devil."http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Robert-D...
Vortex is finally showing up on Goodreads.
I am incredibly anxious to read "The Pines" but it seems to be OOP and I will not pay $200+ for a used copy, especially when not one cent of it will go to the author.I also do not have an e-Reader.
Anyone got suggestions?
You can read it on your computer using kindle for pc. It's only $2.99 through amazon that way. Amazon has used paperbacks that people are selling starting at $65. Ouch! Or check and see if you can get the kindle app on your phone. Hope these options help!
A new paperback edition of The Pines came out about a week ago.
Why anyone would pay $65 for a used copy when new copies are selling for around ten bucks kind of eludes me. (But thanks for being interested.)

I saw that but unfortunately I live in Canada and that is the American site. They won't ship most stuff over the border.
Amazon.ca still just has the previous printings, starting at $187 for a used copy.
Robert, is the royalty situation sorted out on the ebook of The Pines and The Shore? I won't buy a book from a company that doesn't give the author his or her royalty.
Chris, you're very kind. I wish more people felt that way. Unlamented, Dorchester has finally bitten the dust. The new publisher is 47North, which is actually a subsidiary of Amazon. (Yes, they are now publishers as well as everything else.) I'll never recover the royalties withheld for all those years, but 47North has been very good about paying me going forward. Braden, I can't believe that Amazon can't figure out how to sell their own books in Canada. This is SO discouraging!
BTW, I blog about my new one here: http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...
The minutes will fly like hours.
http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...Having fun with a series of blogs that seem to be pissing people off like crazy.
Who does this Dunbar think he is?
I usually just say Napoleon.
