I wrote my novel Summerset because someone close to me had an experience similiar to the one in the book. She'd been told all her life she was pretty and had lots of guys after her, then the one she actually did fall in love with rejected her because he was in love with someone else who wasn't pretty or a particularly nice person. It got me thinking 'what is the meaning of love' and why do we love the people we do.
