Greetings,I am currently living in Andorra though originally from Somerset, England.
I love to read fantasy, watch fantasy, daydream fantasy and now write fantasy. I like high and epic fantasy that inspires me, educates me, teaches me how to be a better, nicer, person and how to become just plain lost in a wonderful world :).
I have also read my fair share of urban fantasy; in terms of Vampires and depth, for me Anne Rice cannot be beaten. Nor Tolkien for Epic fantasy (as yet). I loved the DragonLance books and enjoy the odd Terry Pratchett.
Marion Bradley inspires me most from the female perspective and I aspire to write as beautifully as she does in The Mists of Avalon arthurian fantasy novel.
I particularly like to read about strong female characters in fantasy - Red Sonja was great - but they are quite rare (and why I decided to have a go at writing my own :)).
I loved A Song For Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay and The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. My last favourite book was Dawnthief by James Barclay (I love bands of warriors as much as warrioresses too :)).
Nice to meet you all!
Blessings
A. Evermore

Hey all,So my name's Dimitrios and I live in Ontario. I absolutely love to read fantasy, with the occasional sci-fi thrown in.
Harry Potter was pretty much my gateway drug. I got The Prisoner of Azkaban for Christmas one year and tore through it, and I've been an avid reader of fantasy ever since.
Some of my favorite authors: Brandon Sanderson, R.A Salvatore, Scott Lynch, Brent Weeks, Anthony Ryan, Guy Gavriel Kay, Patrick Rothfuss, Roger Zelazny, Joe Abercormbie, Tolkien, George R. R. Martin... (i'm sure I'm missing a few).
I don't know about you guys, but I've never been as excited to be a fantasy reader as I am right now. We've got some great stuff to look forward to in the next couple of years!
Don't worry about missing a few authors...give us a little time and we'll have you're "to be read" list so long you'll never finish it. :)
By the way, welcome.
Welcome to the group. Mike is right, you're list will only get longer now.
Looks like we're drawing Brenda, I have it on my kindle unread. Perhaps we should read it this year and set ourselves a deadline.

Just tried to respond to one of my friend's post from my feed, and saw it was in this group, not another one we're both in. So I decided to join.I've been a fantasy reader literally since I first started to read - my mother was reading me Narnia at 3 when my eyes started to make sense of the words for myself. Went on to Tolkien soon after and finished LOTR for the first time when I was 5. Later got into D&D and all the associated Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books, Xanth and Anthony's other worlds, Katherine Kurtz, Melainie Rawn, Terry Goodkind.
Then university got me out of reading for fun for a while, and I was really into historical fiction (especially Asia, part of my degree, and the ancient Mediterranean.)
But when my son was born I started taking him to the library and started reading a ton more fiction again, and diving into lots of other fantasy. Recently I've enjoyed lots of GG Kay (just started the Summer Tree last night), Thomas Harlan, Brent Weeks, GRRM, and have tried the first books of a few recent authors like Prince of Thorns too.
I've also been writing a lot too, published my first recently (yes, I've read the author rules, and no, I'm not here to secretly spam anyone. I read constantly, and the majority is fantasy or historical fiction, with a touch of sci-fi and classics), and am almost finished the first draft of book 2.
And now I am introducing my sons to lots of fantasy to pass on the torch.
Oh, I'm in Ontario, Canada.
Looking forward to some fun dicussion.
Hello everyone. I'm a married mother of 3, everyone has their own pet. Mine is a black 5 year old cat biting at my fingers right now since she wants the attention instead of the keyboard. I am a full time student in college. I have loved reading fantasy ever since I saw star wars in the theater and my brother told me he thought I would hate it. He was very happy to be proven wrong. I read so much and I'm spoiled that my job as an acquisition editor, I get to read many fantasy and other books that come through. I'm always looking for a new book to read or a new one to revisit. I have really enjoyed getting to know and reading various comments in different areas of goodreads and am looking forward to the ones here in this group! Thank you for letting me in.
Hi Rebekah. My feline friends do the the same thing, though Romy, the cat that was usually the one to demand my attention when I started typing recently passed. Luna is laying to my right, though she has her back to me. i think I'm being snubbed till I pay attention to her.We will all (of course) do our best to load you down with more titles than you can ever read.
By the way I saw Star Wars when it came out...in a drive in theater. I don't think any drive-ins movies still exist, at least not anywhere around here.
:)
Hi, folks, my name is Alan Spade. I'm currently reading George Martin's A Storm of Swords and De Becker's The Gift of Fear (but this one is for another group). I'm a Fantasy and SF author.
Born in Atlanta Georgia, I lived there until I joined the United States Air Force and served in Texas, France and Germany. Writing is my fourth career. I started in large mainframe computers, and then moved on to become a real estate broker. I returned to college to obtain a nursing degree and practiced as a Registered Nurse and also began writing my first novel, which is my most rewarding work. I live in Phoenix, Arizona with a large Great Dane that thinks he’s a lap dog!I like L. E. Modesitt, Jr who is my favorite author. Robert Jordan/Sanderson, George R. R. Martin, Terry Goodkind and Storm Constantine rate highly, too. I would enjoy reading the next book in the Name of the Wind series by Patrick Rothfess. Sam Barone's Eskkar Series is good historical fiction with some fantasy thrown in the later books.
My website should be up and running by late April/early May and I bringing out three novels this year.
Hello everybody I am Blake and I am addicted to epic fantasy novels. I was introduced to fantasy when I read "Eye of the world" By Robert Jordan. Lucky for me it only took another 2 years for the series to be completed by Brandon Sanderson. I know some of you probably started when the first book cam out and had to wait 20+ years for the entire series.Anyways from then on I discovered that I loved fantasy books and I am always on the prowl for another great fantasy book!
A little about me personally though. I am 20 years old. I am married to the most wonderful woman in the who world, and we have a lovely baby on the way! My other child is a golden lab named Nala!
Other than that I am a custodian by day, and an entrepreneur by night!
I love family and overall I just want to make the world a better place!

Welcome!
:)
Hey y'all!I'm 22 years old and from Oregon. I am currently a student and work for a non-profit protecting national forest. Other than reading, I spend a lot of my time learning ancestral skills and earth based arts and crafts like archery, basketry, edible plants, animal processing, etc.
I love reading all sorts of things, but nothing is quite as satisfying as a good fantasy novel. I look forward to talkin' magic with everybody :]
Oh, I'm a little late getting to the party, but I finally started to read the Game of Thrones series.
It's okay...I burned out on it. It can be difficult but you can get the "fantasy community" to accept you, grudgingly.

*tumbleweed rolls past*
Yeah, GoT/aSoIaF appeals to a certain group of fantasy readers. Granted, it's a fairly large group. But it's not for everyone. It actually straddles the lines between epic fantasy, heroic fantasy, and historical fiction. It's a very "low magic" setting based on the War of the Roses in England.
Not the problem for me. Just dragged out to the point of distraction. To each.....

was that a cricket?

Again I'm pretty sure I would like it. I'll probably get around to doing both... at some point :)

Lol I was starting to think my silly was turning out to be true and I would be ignored forever!! O.o
Good point... though if I start hearing crickets giving me advice I think I might be in trouble already.
