Hi Brad, I hope you enjoy the group. Do take a look at our upcoming reads to see if you fancy anything.

I come from Greece. I play pen and paper rpgs with dedication. I read fantasy mainly (science fiction I love but It gets me depressed! :P )
Some of My favorite authors are Clark Aston Smith, Guy Gavriel Kay, Jack Vance, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robin Hobb , Robert E. Howard, Issak Asimov … I do not know if I love or if I hate George R.R. Martin but I know it is intense :P
Nice meeting you all! :)

Welcome Annie.

I have been lurking for some time now, and decided to finally emerge from the shadows.
My name is John and I live in South Texas right on the coast.
I teach 8th grade ELA and have been for the past four years; I also coach football and tennis. This next year, however, I'm moving on to a different stage in my life and will begin attending law school.
I have loved and enjoyed fantasy since I was in middle school and a friend of mine loaned me "The Eye of the World".
I immediately fell in love and began to snatch up anything similar. (Irony of all Ironies...I now teach in the same classroom where I originally read the majority of TEOTW. I even keep a copy on my desk just in case a kid wants to read it.)
My favorite fantasy novels are ones that can create a new world that I can completely lose myself in. I also enjoy innovative magic systems and there has been quite a spree of those lately a la Sanderson. So, in my opinion, this is a great time for fantasy and speculative fiction.
I am looking forward to becoming a more active participant in the discussions here and plan on doing both book groups in April.
Can't wait to get to know you all!

My reason for loving fantasy so much is to get lost in them. Other genres just don't do that for me.
:)

I'm from Oklahoma, USA and have been reading fantasy since 2nd grade when I got hold of The Chronicles of Narnia. Some of my faves are:
Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy
Anne Bishop's The Dark Jewels Trilogy
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time
Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth
Anne McCaffrey's Pern Series
Mercedes Lackey
Patrick Rothfuss The Kingkiller Chronicles
Violette Malan's Dhulan & Parno Series
James Clemens' The Banned and The Banished Series
and I could really keep going, but I won't! I look forward to getting to know everyone better!

Walks away quietly knowing everyone else in the group knows what I recommended...

*whispers back* No, I haven't. But the reviews are glowing...why are we whispering?

because I recommend the book/series to everyone and everybody in the group knows what I'll recommend. Just flying below their radar...for a minute.

Rolls around giggling very quietly.........

I own several copies so I can loan them out... I've even gotten a few back."
I am already a convert....

Sshhhh...don't tell Mike, but I haven't read it either.
Yet."
*whispering* It's definitely nice not to be alone. I have added it to my to-read list! Thanks for the welcome!!
I read the first book in The Mistborn Trilogy. Well worth the read!

Looking forward to getting loads of advice. I live in Ireland and love to read, reading mainly fantasy since I was a nipper.
I've enjoyed the change in the genre in the wake of George R.R. Martin where black and white is breaking down and many characters in epic fantasy now are shades of grey. Just finished 'Words of Radiance'- sequel to 'The Way Of Kings' and loved it.
Looking forward to getting to know ye.

You MUST read the whole series! And then let us know what you think!

Welcome to the group. I'm new also, but this group has been very welcoming!

First things first: I'm fairly new to goodreads (been here a few weeks) and this is the first group I've joined! So needless to say I have no idea what I'm doing! :)
I have not got around to add all the books I've read previous to joining so my bookshelf is very incomplete at the moment...
I'm from Norway, but I have also lived in England and Denmark not long ago. Just recently moved back home.
I had a bit of a slow few years when it comes to reading until about a year ago when I got my Kindle which kind of kick-started my interest in books again :)
goodreads has also had a positive impact on my reading as I'm now able to find lots and lots of books that seem interesting! (in fact there are now too many and I struggle to settle on which one to read next! Luxury problem!)
My favorite genres are fantasy, scifi and horror. Although I will read other stuff if recommended by people I trust :)
Not going to list fav authors as there are too many and I would be annoyed if I forgot anyone! Hehe :)
I'll just end here I think, looking forward to being a member of this group as it sounds like a good one and perfect for my tastes!

Every month, about midway, we vote on what we will be reading in about two months time.
The top two will be read in that month.
Look for an announcement around the 15th of April for our June poll. You may nominate a choice, and if it is seconded it will be voted on. Check out the rules for nominating. For example, no YA and no nominating of your own book ( if any).
