Brandon Jones Hi I'm Brandon from Utah and enjoy dark gritty fantasy and urban fantasy. Joined to get good recommendations although might be a bad idea being that I have a long list of to-read books that will probably take me years to read. Oh well. I'm currently reading the third book in the Nightside series by Simon R.Greene next on the list is Butcher's Side Jobs then trying to decide on moving on with the last 2 Mistborns or reading Elantris or the first Ryria or Prince of Thorns or the Warded Man or... haha decisions, decisions.

Carolyn Davie (cmd2612) Hi All, I'm Carolyn and I just love to read. The classics and Shakespeare do little for me but give me a fantasy book that doesn't make my head hurt bouncing around and I'll give completing it a really good try. My intro to fantasy was reading the Hobbit as a 10 year old at school and I've not looked back since.

I actually read Tolkien first, and didn't get to Narnia till my early teens.

Welcome & 1/2 the fun of being a Good Reads Member is that your "to read" list grows exponentially - isn't that the biggest benefit of being a member and acquiring friends, reading reviews/opinions and seeing what other people read? Have a good day and happy page flipping to you always! :-)

Kasey Cocoa (kaseycocoa) | 20 comments Hello fellow fantasy readers. My name is Jenn. I've lived all over, from Germany to South America and all over the eastern half of the U.S. to Japan. Currently I'm settled in rural Missouri and loving calling this place home.

My favorite fantasy authors are currently Tolkien, Martin, Sanderson and Michael J. Sullivan, although I will read just about everything. My current favorite series has to be Sullivan's Riyria books.

Have you read
The Dame (Corona Saga of the First King, #3) by R.A. Salvatore and The Bear (Corona Saga of the First King, #4) by R.A. Salvatore ? It's the last of the The Highwayman series.

message 2817: by Pemry (new)

Pemry Janes Hello everybody,

I'm from the Netherlands and been a fan of fantasy since before I knew the genre had a name.

Favorite writers, still have a soft spot for Tolkien for introducing me to fantasy, and I have continued to enjoy Hobb's books.

Jordan's another favorite, though I gave up around book eight. Was really looking forward to the new series he had planned before he passed away far too soon.

I'm hoping that this group can expose me to some new stories.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi and welcome.

If you read WoT through book 8 you could probably get the last volume and read it. The first half of the book (or maybe a little more) will catch you up enough.

message 2827: by Nadia_nao (new)

Nadia_nao Hi everybody !!!

I'm Nadia and i'm from Belgium. I've been a book lover since my childhood. My first fantasy was Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling. I started reading it mostly because of the uproar and all the talks that the story generated. And curious as i am, i had to know what was the story about. So here's how i feel in love with fantasy stories.
However due to some circomstances, i wasn't able to keep on reading as much as i wanted to. But fortunatly, since last year i made my come back to the fantasy world !!!!
I've read a few book since then. But i don't know what to read next, seeing as there's a large choice. So i hope by coming here, have good advices and discover lots of stories and authors.

message 2834: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Sup guys! I'm Felicity, and I'm an avid fantasy reader. My favorites (other than Tolkien) would probably have to be ASoIaF, Kingkiller and probably the First Law Trilogy as of recently, since I'm on the last book right now.

I've loved Fantasy for as long as I can remember, and I hope to participate in some discussions here!

Kaela (kaelakcr) Hallo all,

I'm Kae from the Pacific Northwest of the US. :)

I love epic fantasies, and have recently been addicted to the Mistborn Trilogy Boxed Set and The Wise Man's Fear.

I'm currently reading First Lord's Fury.

I really need some new great series' to get addicted to!

message 2839: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments Hi and welcome Kaela.

All my friends know the first thing I'll recommend is The Deed of Paksenarrion (the trilogy). One of my all time favorites.

Also if you haven't tried them the standbys The Hobbit, or There and Back Again and The Lord of the Rings are books not to miss.

I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations...we love to get people's "to be read lists" too long to ever finish, LOL.

Hi Kae and welcome to the group!

Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt series might be interesting for you, starting with Empire in Black and Gold.

Of course, The Wheel of Time series, started by the late Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson should be mentioned regarding epic series. It starts with The Eye of the World.

Another great author is Robin Hobb. Her main series is the Elderlings, which contains three trilogies and one quadrology to date.
The first trilogy starts with Assassin's Apprentice.

Hope there's something in here for you. Enjoy reading and the group! :)

Aaron Welcome Kate, you sound like you have great taste... I have heard that your awesome husband got you into way of kings by Sanderson after much resistance, Is that true or false? Haha

My name is Aaron I am also from Perth. I Have been a fantasy fan since I could remember. I started by reading Child fantasy with doomspell by Cliff Mcnish before moving on to more challenging books.

Some of my favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson, Joe Abercrombie, George R.R and obviously the poet of fantasy Patrick Rothfuss.

My favorite series are The first law trilogy, The king killer chronicles and way of kings. I plan on reading Wheel of time series and/or blood song next.... Wish me luck on that expedition!
