Hi Jaz,welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.
And I'll take 2 cookies please.
Greetings everyone! My name is Robert and I live in the state of Maine. I am a big pen and paper RPG player (Woo! for Savage Worlds!) and lover of just about anything fantasy. I am also somewhat of a video gamer, although I gave up keeping up with all the new stuff a few years ago (all my favorite games were for the SNES anyway haha).
Also I should mention that I am a huge fan of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian along with his other works. But mostly Conan.

Hi Robert, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

I always thought of and read about Tolkien being an amazing epic fantasy author. However, I'm not sure anyone's written about Tolkien being the recruiter for the Fantasy Genre. After reading some of the above posts, I think it's likely JR deserves that title, as well. I'm going to check the posts and if there isn't one on this topic, I'm going to create it - come add your 2 cents to "Which Book/Film/Author Hooked me on Fantasy?"

I'm Konstantin, but mostly I use 'Kastian' as name. I'm living in Moscow (Russia). I love SF&F from my first books - "Hobbit" and Heinlein's "Space Cadet", which was read, when I was about eight years. Since then, I have read about 700-1000 SF&F books (Or more). Of course translated to russian. But there are troubles wis translations last ten years. So I started to learn english. Now I can read (not without dictionary), but speaking correctly is hard for me. As saying is - "English is not my native, my native is BASH and PERL", so I beg my pardon for my errors.
I work as soundengineer and IT freelanser (we call this profession - "anykeyer" :) ). What else should I say about myself? In addition to books, I'm interested in music, recording, and unix-like operating systems.
I'm hoping to find here good recommandation, and to improve my language тоо :)

Hi Kastian, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

Favourite books are Ulyssess by Bernard Evslin - got me to love the idea of adventure, White Fang by Jack London - he really understood the mind of a canine, and Lord of The Flies - amazingly written.
I have a blog at www.krcoxbooks.com if you want to read about some of my outdoor adventures or whatever.
Thanks, and HELLO!
Hi K.,welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.
And to me,a 6km hike is not short by any means.
And to me,a 6km hike is not short by any means.

I´m not new but I haven´t properly introduced myself, yet.
My name is Lára and I have viking blood in me (I´m from Iceland). English is my 3rd language
I love literature, fiction and non-fiction, and I am a demanding reader. My favourite books you can see here and here. (Not the same level of favourites.)
Favourite movie is The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and I love black-white movies in general. I don´t watch "modern" tv/movies much/rarely - I visit cinema couple of times per year and that´s my whole connection with media, next to HBO Demand sometimes (games and music not included). I´m mostly a year or so behind with everything
I´ve mentioned my favourite music artists in this thread. I don´t really have a fav writer. I rarely read more than one book by the same author, anyway. (;
You might have noticed I´m bit of a revolutionist. I go against the flow as much as I can.
Hate labels and slavery. Love plants, animals and books. I collect books, and I´m deep in fishkeeping hobby.
I have a pet mouse (among the other pets), his name is Stevart
Belated welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.
Having viking blood in you is really cool.
By the way what does kannski mean?

I didn't know about your Viking heritage.
I always like to think......that I might have a little Viking blood.

Hi Everyone!!! :)
My name is Malissa. I am 20 years old and live in Oklahoma. I am currently a sophomore in college. However, I am not currently enrolled in college at this time. I recently moved back to the United States from living in Japan so I had to put my college studies on hold while I get settled. Once I get more settled, I'm hoping to attend the University of West Florida as an English or Library Sciences major. Even though I miss being in school full time, I love having the extra time to read the books that I want to read :)
My favorite fantasy author is JK Rowling and my favorite fantasy series is the Harry Potter series. The Harry Potter series is completely and 100% responsible for my reading addiction today lol
I am excited about this new group and am looking forward to participating in discussions with y'all! :)

Hi Paras, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

I'm 19 and a student at the University of Texas.
I suppose Harry Potter is responsible for my introduction in to the expansive world of fantasy. However I only really started to get into this genre about 2 years ago when my brother gave me an R A Salvatore book. Ever since then I have been devouring every fantasy book I can while I juggle classes. My favorite book up to date would have to be The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson followed closely by the Malazan series.
I don't think I can express my absolute obsession over reading in general and reading fantasy in particular.
I hope I can contribute meaningfully to this group in the future! XD

It's very exciting to see how much the field has expanded and to be a part of it (I'm a recently published author), and I hope you enjoy Goodreads!
Hi Emily, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

Kannski means "maybe" (;
Almost all fiction books go to my "kannski" shelf. Only special books go to my "to-read" shelf (if you´re not Kate Morton, Karen Marie Moning or Neil Gaiman, that´s it)
Brenda ╰☆╮, I´m still waiting for your recommendation! (be it bug cover or not)
Well, humans of Fantasy Book Club, I have a important mission for you:
please, recommend a (fiction/fantasy) book that´s not:
a) similar to Mr. Gaiman´s
b) historical fiction as George Martin, Guy Gavriel Kay´s
c) erotica (like Kushiel´s Dart - or whatever)
d) "Sword of Truth" or "Holly Terry Goodkind´s" book (I did like Legend of the Seeker tv show, but do not want to read books by St. Goodkind)
e) a mythology book
f) a "sequel" to "some" classic book
g) a mix of characters created before
could you recommend a unique fantasy novel?

I very much enjoyed two recent reads: Michael J. Sullivan's Theft of Swords (an omnibus edition, it contains the first two volumes of the Riyria Revelations); and Carol Berg's The Spirit Lens. Both were quite unique in their own way and a very good read -- I'm looking forward to reading the other books in both series.
David

Let's see -- there's Lens of the World and its sequels by R.A. MacAvoy. Or The Gormenghast Novels by Mervyn Peake.

My name Is Kris. I'm 33yrs old and living in Columbus, Ohio. I've been an avid SciFi/Fantasy fan ever since my older sis got me Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings for Christmas when I was 11. Since then I'm always looking for the next new story to dive into. Pleas feel free to recommend something. Currently I'm looking for something along the lines of Glen Cook or Steven Erikson. Darker gritty fantasy.

I'm Sayan from Calcutta,India.I'm a big fan of LOTR+Silmarillion , Wheel of Time, Mistborn..and The Way of Kings (Sanderson is a genius I think)...can anyone recommend something similar to these books/series? and please no A song of Ice n Fire or Malazan..tried them didn't like em.
I like long/complex series ( there can never be too much detail I say ).

You might try
Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
Fires of Heaven series by Russel Kirkpartrick
Oh and The whole Mithgar series by Dennis L McKiernan it you like Tolkien. He originally developed it as a Sequel to LOTR but couldn't get the rights. I's not Tolkien but then again nothing is

I´m Zuzana from Czech republic, Central Europe. My favourite authors are for example Elizabeth Moon, Brandon Sanderson, Juraj Červenák or Štěpán Kopřiva. But now I have Mistborn mania. Sanderson is genius, yeah! But I will be happy for any recommendation of any other great authors. Thank you for your patience and sorry for my English ;)
