I’m Tor Roxburgh and I’m from a small town in regional Victoria in Australia. I work in the visual arts and in a profession that’s largely unmentionable in this forum (i.e. I write books). I’m here as a reader. I love fantasy and I’m very keen on the more socially speculative end of the genre. My current favourites are:
Lean Hearn’s series called Tales of the Otori
China Mieville’s novel The City and the City
Ursula Le Guin's books (my absolute favourite is her science-fiction novel called The Dispossessed)
Robin Hobb’s Liveship Trader trilogy

This year, I’m keen to read lots of recent, good quality young adult fantasy (the more speculative, the better). If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

Hi Tor. I don't know if it's considered YA or not,but if you liked Mieville's work, I would highly recommend some of his other stuff, like the Bas-Lag novels, Perdido Street Station, The Scar, and Iron Council.

I have read a lot of Piers Anthony over the years, while Xanth novels are fun, my favorites would have to be the Tarot Series (3 books).

Hello all. My name is Emmy and I live near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I work as a BI specialist in IT but I'm also busy realising my dream to become a trainer. I absolutely love fantasy and have read most of the standard series, inlcuding Tolkien, Eddings, Jordan, Herbert, Zelazny etc.

At the moment I'm reading the last of the Black Magician books by Trudi Canavan which I find moderately entertaining. Besides fantasy I am also a great fan of Latin American literature.

Hello everyone. I'm Lauren and I live in the West of Scotland. I'm an avid fantasy reader and have been considering joining some fantasy book groups on the website for a while. I have finally gone for it, despite the fact that I might not get much reading done for the group. I'm currently reading Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself and I also have the Night Angel trilogy to finish off which I have been enjoying a lot. Like many, I'm also waiting patiently for the next installment of a Song of Ice And Fire.

What I like other the fantasy,PNR,UF,historical romance,YA,steampunk, some science fiction and I love a good mystery, suspense and thrillers. I like historical fiction and classic literature. I'm also a sucker for books that should come with a box of tissues.

Hi, I'm Ben and I've been a fan of the genre ever since I got my wisdom teeth pulled in high school and was laid up for about a week with nothing to do but read. My favorite authors in the genre are Brandon Sanderson (I have read all of his work in the Cosmere at least five times...the man is a genius), Brent Weeks (I wish he had more out - I really love what I have read thus far), Patrick Rothfuss (anxiously waiting on Doors of Stone) and J.R.R. Tolkien (let's face it: if you like fantasy, it's almost a prerequisite that you have to like Tolkien). I am especially interested in finding similar authors to those I listed above; I have read other popular authors and have been less than enthralled with their writing (don't kill me here, but I'm talking about George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire). So if you know anyone, please pass them along. :)

Hi I am Ceecee from London, UK. I have been reading fantasy, sci fi and just books in general for a very very long time. Nothing is better than escaping to some other world by sticking my nose in a book!
I love fantasy, sci-fi and thrillers/whodunnits. I also tend to read YA – Paolini – Inheritance series, Harry Potter, Veronica Roth, Kami Garcia, Hunger Games…
I am an obsessive reader, can’t get enough of books which my partner (who doesn’t read) finds insane. In particular I like series where the characters develops. Not so much a fan of one offs but I have been known to be wrong!
My favourites are Patrick Rothfuss, GRR Martin, Tolkien, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, True Blood (just can’t help myself!) as well as dystopia themed books.
I am keen to find new series so thought I would join for some sound advice :)

Welcome Ceecee! The Alcatraz series by Brandon Sanderson is a fun YA one if you haven't read it yet. His other stuff is pretty good too; Elantris and the Mistborn series are both a bit dystopian, and he's a great storyteller.

Some couldn't understand but what they didn't know is that I'm already acquainting myself with Kings and Queens, meeting wizards and druids, fighting the unseen forces, slaying some dragons and casting some spells and yet I'm still alive. It's not insanity but creativity. I really love fantasy <3

Thanks Ben & Mike for your welcomes. I already have Elantris on my bookshelf ready to read once I have finished working my way through Philip Pullman's Dark Materials, although finding it difficult to get oulled in.
I will take a look at the Alcatraz series and Mistborn today!
