Introductions - tell us a little about yourself

I'm with you! I can't stand little twittery faeries. I like grown-up sized, sexy elven types myself, with grown-up appetites, which is why I chose to write about just such elves in my books. My book,Griffin's Daughter is this month's Reading Selection and contains lots of grown-up elven types. I invite you to check out the discussion threads. The ones with spoilers are clearly marked.

My name is Kathy and I seem to be reading more fantasy these days. My son introduced me to or encouraged me to read some in the fantasy genre about 10 years ago or so when he was a kid (now almost 22). As I was always active in encouraging and fostering his love of reading, I knew I had to start reading more of his favorite genre. He didna steer me wrong (sorry, I'm reading Outlander now and the Scottish conversation is sticking with me). I especially love time travel, so Outlander is great. My favorite time travel book is Doomsday Book by Connie Willis.

welcome, Kathy. time travel is a blast - god bless your son for exposing you to the joys of fantasy.

Robert jordan.
R.A. salvatore.

Welcome Kevin - I love Dumas!!

I have a LOT of new stuff in my to-read stack - including the Wheel of Time series, the Sword of Truth series, the Otherland series, Mistborn ... etc. I also just started The Crown Conspiracy which I'm enjoying a lot.

Writing a book was long and tough, but I did it and I want to know what people think, but most importantly I like to entertain the reader, on paper as well as in person. I hope to make lots of friends here on goodreads. My friend that first got me into fantasy got me into this. I have him to thank.

Craig, since you are a fellow author and have recently published a book, you should come over and join the On Fiction Writing discussion group. There's also the Goodreads Sci-fi/Fantasy Authors group as well.
Leslie Ann
author of Griffin's Daughter and Griffin's Shadow

I am a first time mom, and a gradute student trying to get my MBA. I also work full time. During all this I am also writing. I won't go into details about it since it is just in the beginning process. Yet through writing, school and family life. I find that my break is reading. It helps me escape and I love IT.

Welcome Brandy! I'm also from the Kansas City metro area. I work on the Country Club Plaza but living in Lansing, Kansas. Great to have you here among us.

Thanks Leslie Ann. I will do it.

Welcome, everyone...

Hi people!!! I'm Yuki. I love all books especially fantasy and gory ones. I don't know if you'd call manga books but, I love them too. I usually read 2 or 3 books at a time. Literature is one of my best subjects in school.

I also have been a eccentric writer since I was ten years old, and when I graduacted from highschool I started self publishing my work which is currently available at http://www.freewebs.com/lelue/ I love to write a little bit of everything sci-fi, horror, fantasy, whatever. I also love to mix genres

Hello everyone. Name's Tanya Tungilik, from The Great White North of Canada :) I love fantasy books. Right this moment I'm listening to The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan. I've read the book once before, but I wanted to revisit it. I'm also reading Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse, it's not bad so far. I also love horror and thrillers, and only love the best of authors from those genres, Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

Seriously though. It's a great group and you'll love it...

Hello Robin, *smiles* I look forward to receiving your husband's book.

Tanya--you have such an interesting surname. Are you of the First Nations?

I just got interested in sci-fi/fantasy in the last couple of years after reading lots of mysteries and thrillers. I still enjoy them, but after a while, they were all starting to read like the same book over and over.
I've been reading mostly fantasy lately, with a couple mysteries still thrown in from favorite authors:
My favorite fantasy books, so far:
Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
Name of the Wind by Pat Rothfuss
Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher
Codex Alera by Jim Butcher
Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson.
I just finished The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon.
Next up is Lamentation, by Ken Scholes, on recommendation from a couple of the blogs that I read.
I'd love to read A Game of Thrones, but I put it down after 200 pages because it was requiring more of my attention that I could give it at that time. It is a future vacation book now.

I am a mild mannered Accountant by day (ok, maybe not so mild mannered…lol) and an avid reader the rest of my waking time. I am fairly new to the fantasy genre having only been reading it the last couple of years…so I have a lot of catching up to do. I started off reading stuff like Weis/Hickman’s Dragonlance series and R.A. Salvatore’s stuff involving the Forgotten Realms. Yes…I used to be a big role-player back in the day:-)
Reading those books has re-fueled my interest in the Fantasy genre and I am ready to move on to the “big people books” now. Although I have to say, I do love Drizzt!
I have reserved from my local library The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I look forwarding to reading them and discussing with everyone my thoughts. I am excited about my journey and I am glad to have all of you as my travel mates.
Cheers,
Eric

I usually read whatever is the most different from what I am writing. That means a lot of fantasy as I work on RA books, and a lot of science fiction as I'm writing this fantasy novel.
Good to meet everyone!

Henry, I have and still do Roleplay (online), and I enjoy it very much. I have The Crown Conspiracy in the mail, and can't wait to read it. I like to write as well, only Chris Haught can tell you what my writing is like. I like drinking tea too, especially when I'm 'out on the land'.
James, military science fiction? I'd love to read it! I have always wanted to be in the military, and I love fiction.
Maybe one day I will write my own short story or even a novel. I'm not quite there yet though...

ETA: I love how organized you guys are with your discussion threads!

I've been away dealing with some late breaking Avempartha stuff - and look at how this group has expanded! I LOVE the new introductions getting a great group of people with some good reads under their belt to share. I'm very excited....
Thanks Henry and JG for the "Crown Conspiracy Nod" - and Welcome TNBBC'er JG!

My dearest college friends and I all met originally because I went looking for someone to teach me how to play D&D. I found a guy, and along with his roommate, and several other dorm mates, we started a D&D group that stayed together for a single campaign that lasted--I kid you not--10 years. We all got our bachelor's degrees and several of us also got advanced degrees in that time, all the while spending huge chunks of week-end time gaming. What a bunch of geeks we were! I still am-- a geek, that is-- and proud of it!! And yes, I have more than adequate social skills!

My name is Heather and I'm from the Pacific Northwest, although I moved to Brooklyn recently. I've been a devourer of books my entire life, especially science fiction and fantasy.
Some of my favorite scifi/fantasy authors are:
Orson Scott Card
Steven Brust
Illona Andrews
Kim Harrison
Neil Gaiman
Charles de Lint
Sherwood Smith
I'm looking forward to reading along with all of you.

4 years ago i read Onion Girl, by Charles De Lint, and have been hopelessly addicted to his urban fantasies ever since. i also dearly love when Orson Scott Card straddles the line that divides sci-fi and fantasy, like he did in Songmaster.
i'm a sucker for books about dragons, enchantments, certain doom, curses, legends, and magic. i'd rather have my faeries be grown up sized and male with sex appeal and a mischievous streak a mile wide than be miniature, girly wish-granters. not there's a thing wrong with Tinkerbell
*claps hands together
just saying...
