Hello, my name is Shawn. Fantasy, Horror, and Sci-Fi are my favorite genres and I wouldn't put an order on that because I am a big fan of those three genres. My goal this year was to read more and Goodreads has helped with that. In the past I would read stuff if it was recommended to me, but I am more of an avid writer and until recently haven't been much of a reader. J.K. Rowling is on the top of my favorite authors list and of course Tolkien is on that list as well. I am up to exploring new authors and books so I welcome any suggestions.
Hi! I'm Yousef from the UK and I'm really into fantasy though I hope to start reading some Sci-Fi as well. Some favourites off the top of my head: The Eye of the World, Mistborn: The Final Empire, The Knife of Never Letting Go and many others.I'm kinda new to GR, so feel free to friend me or recommend me some books!
My name is Nancy, and I live in metro Atlanta, Georgia. I read a lot, across various genres (literary fiction, mysteries, nonfiction, fantasy and sci-fi--whatever sounds interesting. In the fantasy area, my favorite authors include Patricia McKillip, Jacqueline Carey, Jennifer Fallon, Ursula Le Guin, Juliet Marillier, China Mieville, and Guy Gavriel Kay. I just finished reading the first in George R.R.Martin's Saga of Ice and Fire series (and have also watched the HBO series), and I'm getting hooked on that. There are many other authors in the fantasy genre that I'd like to read; so many books, so little time!
Hi Runar, Shawn, Yousef and Nancy. Wow. Welcome to the group. That's quite the influx in the last 24 hours...
Hi everyone, I'm new to the group but not to GR :)My name is Adrianna and I'm currently living in Florida.
I don't have my fingers dipped in a lot of fantasy so I'm not an experienced fantasy reader, but my favorite authors seem to be Karen Miller, Kristen Britain, and Neil Gaiman (does he count as fantasy? I don't know haha)
Not much for me to share, but I'm hoping with the help of this group I can make some friends and broaden my fantasy knowledge :)
Hey guys, my name is Nico. I'm from the Philippines. I'm new to the fantastic world of fantasy. I haven't even read ASOIAF yet. I just finished The Way of Kings and I think it is my favorite book as of now. I like Kvothe too. :D I have about 60 books waiting to be read including ASOIAF, Malazan, WOT, Mistborn, First Law, and New Crobuzon. Hopefully with this group's help, I could discover more worlds and enjoy them with people who appreciate them as well.
Hey hey, my name is Mercedes. I'm from the U.K. Im 21. I've hardly read any fantasy books so thought it would be cool to join a group so I could get some ideas of what I like. I've bought Graceling so looking forward to joining in the read in april :)
Hey Nico! I also really liked The Way of Kings. Brandon Sanderson is one of my favourite authors. I'd definitely recommend you read Mistborn and WOT (although it does drag for a bit).
Yousef wrote: "Hey Nico! I also really liked The Way of Kings. Brandon Sanderson is one of my favourite authors. I have all of the WOT books but I have trouble starting it because I'm not used to reading mass market paperbacks (the small ones). When I start reading it, should I start with The Eye of the World or New Spring?
I haven't actually read New Spring yet, but I'd start with Eye of the World and a few of its sequels to familiarise yourself with the world and the characters but it's up to you. Personally, I just ploughed through the books from 1-13 without stopping :D
Hi My name is Ellada and I'v been living in lot of different places. Now I live in France and am trying to learn franch.Ilona Andrews - I could read anything that this couple would write.
Rob Thurman - she is like her Trickstar
Mr. King - and I don't have to say anything. He is the King
I have lot more authors who I really like to read and I'll not finish today if I start write every name.
Nice to meet y'all.
PS. I love English language, with it's all different accents.
Hi everyone,I am E. Milan. I live in NYC currently, originally from Long Island. I'm a pilot and I also dabble in writing. I have one self-published novel so far and I'm working on several other projects. I've always loved reading and I tend to read most genres though I have a love for fantasy. After a while I always get that craving for a great epic to read. Like many I have my ever growing Tolkien collection. Probably the most recent fantasy series that has infected me is R. Scott Bakker's series. The first three were amazing, The Judging Eye not so much. I actually haven't read White Luck Warrior yet.
I'll end the post there, I hope to get involved in more discussions on the board.
Thanks for having me,
E. Milan

Wow, I've missed a whole bunch of new folks. Welcome to Ellada, E., and Varun. Hope you enjoy the group :).
Hello, everyone. My name is Valerie, and I am from upstate New York. My passion is reading and writing fantasy. What is not to love about losing yourself in epic adventures? Fantasy author Greg Hamerton says its best. “Fantasy books are like dragons: epic scale, great big tale”. I can usually find something worthy in every book I read, but my favorites are GRRM, Butcher, Brooks, Goodkind and Sullivan. I am fairly new to Goodreads and this group. Looking forward to great discussions!
Hello! I'm David, and I've been a fantasy reader since I was 10. I love anything fantasy related, from myth-based fantasy to other worlds to steampunk... you name it. I'm always looking forward to meeting other fantasy fans so we can geek out together ;)I'm a high school English teacher, and unfortunately, we can't really teach fantasy fiction in my AP class, but I do recommend titles constantly. Tolkien, Eddings, Anthony, Goodkind, LeGuin... so many favorites, for so many different reasons. I'm always interested in adding new friends and seeing what people are reading.
Be well! Until we chat again...
David
Welcome David. Lots of fantasy readers here...and we all have to be read lists so long I doubt we'll ever get them read. LOL.
