Welcome - Arief is a lovely name!
What a great place to start reading fantasy - the Earthsea trilogy was beautifully done, and stands as well as ever.
Newbie, here. My name is Carrie and I'm from Alabama and I used to work for the space program (before all the cancellations kicked in for the Constellation program). Now I have even more time to read, lol *sigh*. In any event, I'm a newly wed and have 3 dogs, a slightly evil cat and a horse. My favorite F&SF writers are Tolkien, George RR Martin, JK Rowling and the list is growing. I love the idea of this group and really look forward to suggestions and inputs :) Thanks!

And I've noticed that readers who love Tolkien often are drawn to world-building and strong characterization. If this is your case, I suggest the works of Janny Wurts, who is a FBC author/member. Try To Ride Hell's Chasm, or begin the big series with Curse of the Mistwraith. We have discussed Several of hers in the club and comments can still be found here and there.

I'm a newbie to this group, and quite glad to have found all of you. My name is Chris, and I am an avid, avid reader. I read lots and lots of different stuff, but carry a special place in my heart for well-written fantasy. Some of my faves are Jordan's 'Wheel of Time', Tolkien's works (including his poetry), Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire', and novels by Brandon Sanderson, Elizabeth Moon, and a new discovery of mine, Pamela Freeman's 'The Castings Trilogy', and way too many others to list. Anyway, I look forward to some great discussions with all of you! Cheers! Chris
Carrie (Care) wrote: "Welcome Arief, Carrie, and Chris!"Thank you very much for the welcome, Carrie! I am having loads of fun already!
Hello people. I'm Rollie from Philippines. I don't really have any logical reason why I love reading despite of the fact that I'm taking an engineering course. My favorite books are Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan and The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. If you're into some action-packed novels, then we can be buddies.P.S. I love Harry Potter, too. :)
Hi, nice to join this group. I was introduced in my teens to fantasy sideways from science fiction. I discovered Ray Bradbury's work and which led into Piers Anthony's Xanth series. From there it only got better: from Stephen Donaldson to Robert Jordan and finally to George R R Martin. Lately, I have been reading Tad William's Shadowmarch series. I currently am in the second book and thoroughly enjoying it.Very nice to find this group. I look forward to learning more about the authors of these fabulous books and sharing likes/dislikes of the characters and plots. It will also be fun to meet other readers who love fantasy.
Thanks!
Kerry
Hi, everyone:My name is Cheryl and I live in Northern Ontario, Canada. I'm a book addict through and through and enjoy reading many genres, but my all-time favourite is fantasy, especially young adult. I've always been fanatical about reading, but, lately, it seems I can't walk by my local bookstore without buying something!
I'm looking forward to learning more about what other readers think of all the wonderful books out there.

I read a few fantasy books when I was younger, like The Hobbit and A Wrinkle in Time, both favorites of mine. But I was about 20 when I read my first real science fiction/fantasy. It was the Xanth series. I haven't stopped reading fantasy since. I will never catch up with all the fantastic books out there to read. I am almost done with second book in The Hunger Games. I am Number 4 was a great read. I am now, also reading 13 to Life and the Cassini Code. My favoriet, I am reading right now, is not a fantasy. It is The Five Flavors of Dumb. This is my other genre that I love right now: Young Adult books.
Hi, i have been a member for some weeks now, but haven't gotten around to introducing myself before now. I am from Oslo,Norway in Europe. My favorite athours are Robert Jordan, George RR Martin and Robin Hobb. I mostly like epic fantasy and scifi.

In The Martian Chronicles, even his aliens have the same heart that we all do. I don't really know if his work is SF or fantasy, but I still love it after all these years. So, welcome! Hope to hear more from you.
Hello! My name is Ramona and I have been on GR for some time now but haven't really joined any groups as such.I've never had many people to discuss books with so I thought this might be a good change.
To not stay completely in the shadows, I'll say a few words about myself.
I live in Estonia and am currently studying Japanese culture at Tallinn university. I've read quite a lot in the past but for some reason I've avoided fantasy literature. However, last year an internet penfriend recommended Robin Hobb books and I've been hooked ever since.
I look forward to discussing different books and sharing and exchanging thoughts on our favorites.
Hi all,My name's Christopher and I live in sunny, crazy California (seriously, this state is crazy). I've been reading fantasy all my life. I think I probably started when my mom was reading fairytales to me as a young kiddo. It's an amazing genre, and while I do read in other genres, I'm firmly convinced fantasy is the best. I'm willing to duel over that - flung doughnuts at twenty paces.

Hi! My name is Kay and I am from Arizona. I have been reading for as long as I can remember but only started reading fantasy a few years ago when I fell in love with the Harry Potter books. Currently, my favorite authors are Jacqueline Carey and Brandon Sanderson. I also enjoy urban fantasy and young adult books and am currently reading Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning.
Hi all;I'm Meg and live in the UK, I am an avid reader and have been a sci-fi/fantasy fan since i can remember, since i got my Kindle this has only been reinforced due to exploring this group and downloading many of the recommendations (my credit card thanks you). It's the pure escapism that it provides which always brings me back to it time and again.
Currently i am loving the Janny Wurts Series "Wars of Light and Shadow"
peace, love and all things fluffy

::waves:: Hi, Meg. Welcome.
Hi Meg, sorry for the belated welcome. I've just recently had the opportunity to return to the group on a regular basis, so I'm a little behind on my greetings.
Hi to everyone. :) I am Theresa from Czech Republic (in the middle of Europe). I cannot realise when I started with reading fantasy books... It's quite a long time... But well, I've read books usually in the evening when I had come back from school, so there was many of them in my hands. And my favs are humorous fantasy books but not only. Maybe I prefer the clasical story with magicians. (I love magicians!) So, all from me. (Late add, I know, but still...) Good reading to everyone. :)

Hello everyone, I'm Lina and I come from the United Arab Emirates. I've been reading books in the english language since I was 9!The reason I said english language is because my first language is Arabic, and I don't know why, but I never bothered to read anything in Arabic.
I must admit, I was introduced to the world of Fantasy at the age of 20, by my all time favourite author, Robin Hobb.
She is my favourite, because I never knew a world like hers existed in books, as I use to read fiction, crime thrillers and romance novels before.
I know what you're thinking, oh my god she's missed out on a lot.
Ever since I read Assassin's Apprentice, I'm telling you I felt like I missed out on so much! I was hooked, and have read every single book by her since then.
I then added to my favourite authors list
George R R Martin, Lynn Flewelling, Jennifer Fallon, Trudi Canavan, Jacqueline Carey, C.S. Friedman and recently Brandon Sanderson.
I am very excited to have joined this group, I'm looking forward to getting to know you, and learning about new books I haven't read yet =)

Hi, Lina! So excited to have you!
Hi, all. I am an aspiring author of both fantasy and science fiction. Still working my way up the ladder of learning, but getting there. A few short stories published, but that's it, so far.I work with animals - both dogs and horses and possess quite a few of my own :)
I am also, of course! an avid reader of both genres although fantasy is my first love.

Hi, Susan. Welcome to FBC! Please read the author guidelines before posting anything about your books. There are two folders for authors where you can let us know about your books. And welcome as a reader!

Thank you! Oh, definitely as a reader. You won't see any of my work until it is officially published, I'd be too embarrassed.
Hello all. It always feels weird talking about myself. :) I'm from West Virginia in the US. Love reading books. For fantasy, I enjoy reading quite a lot of authors, like McKiernan, Brent Weeks, Steven Brust, McKillip. I remember reading Norton, MZB, Asimov, and Bradbury long ago. The few authors that I just could not get through are Tolkien and Jordan. The longest running series of books that I love isn't fantasy, though. It's the Spencer novels by Robert B. Parker. Had he chosen fantasy, I'm sure I would have loved them, too.Mark
Hi. I suppose I'll say that I love fantasy. I'm a GRR Martin fan but who isn't? Modesitt, kind of when he isn't annoying me. Nail Gaiman, but again, who isn't. I'm a huge Elizabeth Moon fan and am thrilled that she has a new novel out next month! You may be sure I'll read that.I'm also a published author who writes fantasy which I'll simply say no more about so as not to annoy. :)
