Welcome Jared! :D. Quite a collection there, I admit to only reading a bit of Steven Erikson though.

Welcome to the Fantasy Book Club...and Yo right back at you. We have a good time here. Lots of cool discussions.
I suppose it's about time I introduced myself, since it's been almost a month since I joined. I'm Kendra. I live in Denver and at the moment I am deciding what exactly to do with my life. I've enjoyed reading fantasy for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite authors are Carol Berg, Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, Terry Pratchett, Anne Bishop and plenty of others that I'm sure I'll remember as soon as I hit enter. I write as well, mostly young adult fantasy. Nothing published yet, though I'm trying.
Oh I swore not another book group, I just don't have time. But here I am. The November read was just too tempting to resist. Hi, I'm Jamie. I live in Oakland California and I've been reading fantasy since I was 16 when I read Lord of the Rings for the first time. Some of my favorites are Patricia K. McKillip, Gene Wolfe, J.K Rowling, Jorge Luis Borges, Edgar Allan Poe, and the newest addition; George R.R. Martin. I'm back in school to get my bachelors degree and I hope to someday write the kind of books that we read here.
Hi all,I'm Marissa, 23, currently residing in Honolulu where I'm attending school, but originally from rainy Seattle, which may be where I got my love of reading from. My all-time favorite book is Ella Enchanted and I'm a die-hard Harry Potter fan as it's the first chapter book series I ever really read on my own, and I grew up with it, and it's frickin fantastic! I am also a huge fan of Tamora Pierce's books, and I just read all The Hunger Games series over the summer and I think it's made me fall in love with reading all over again! So I've been reading up a storm lately!
Hiiiiiiiiii!!My name is Fatma, but you can all call me Taamy, and I come from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I have been reading ever since I was a kid and I enjoy it immensely!!! I adore fiction books as I like to live in my own world haha, but honestly I enjoy things such as Lord of the Rings, the House of Night series, the Vampire Academy series, and honestly I think I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan.
Other than that I do enjoy books that have a philosophical view on life. My favorite series of this category is Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul, as they have honestly impacted my life in a very meaningful way.
Enough talking! Nice meeting you all! Take care!!
Welcome aboard Marissa and Taamy ! I do hope you can join in one of our monthly discussions.
hi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im ali I love the series warriors and the series gardians of ga'hoole I am starting to read the percy jackson series. I love reading
Bryce here, 42. Living in Saco, Maine USA. Currently on a Brandon Sanderson kick, read Mistborn, Warbreaker and currently working through Way of Kings. Still need to read Elantris (sp?).Slow reader, so a book that I enjoy, such as Warbreaker, will take me a 2-3 weeks to get through... ADD keeps me from enjoying books like the Stephen Erikson series...
Bryce wrote: "Bryce here, 42. Living in Saco, Maine USA. Currently on a Brandon Sanderson kick, read Mistborn, Warbreaker and currently working through Way of Kings. Still need to read Elantris (sp?)...."You're definitely in the right place, then. Welcome to FBC.
Hey, I'm Amber, 25 years old. I live in Alaska. I've read fantasy ever since I read Oath of Gold by Elizabeth Moon when I was 14, as soon as I finished it I sent out the mail order for the the other two and I've been hooked since. I hardly ever read anything other than fantasy. My favorite authors have to be Elizabeth Moon, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Katherine Kerr, Anne McCaffrey, Terry Brooks, Sara Douglass and many more. I love series above all. I love a story that has a lot of background information, building up a new world. I re-read almost all of my books when a new one in the series comes out, but I still re-read The Deed of Paksenarrion about once a year, just because it's my all time favorite. I just finished up Oath of Fealty, but now I'm working on a list of classics starting with Jane Austen. I have to say, I'm not all that interested but they make for a good read all the same. I'm impatiently awaiting the release of Towers of Midnight and will soon read more of Brandon Sanderson's and George R.R. Martin's. Hello All :)
Hi Stuart! :)Thanks Sarah! I do like the forums and discussions here, I spend too much time reading to be posting very often, but today I'm at work w/o anything to do so I thought I'd say hello. They are fun and I love all the different opinions and new insights
Hello everyone! I'm Anna, live in Indonesia & a new fan of fantasy books! Well, not really new, but I just start read them about 2 years ago. I'm in University now, and my one of favorite author is Trudy Canavan (I don't usually remember the name of the author... *for author & writer, please forgive me T^T...). I also like Lord of the Rings, Inheritance Circle, Sookie Stackhouse series, Ranger apprentice (just read until 2nd book, since the next hasn't come out in my country >.< *frustrate*), etc... Now I'm trying to read more serious books^^I've been in this site for years, but just not really active... Beside Fantasy, I also like romance (including historical romance), chinese material art (I don't know the English of "silat". hahaha), sometime history & detective, and lots of other genre... Now I'm reading 2nd book of Dune by Frank Herbert^^
Hello,My name is Adam. I started reading fantasy with Tolkien (Hobbit then Lord of the Rings) I never really got into the Similarian and other more recent works.
My favorite series is Harry Potter - although for me it more or less peaked with Prizoner of Akabazan - the books up to this point were just so much fun but it got kind of long winded and drawn out by the end of the series.
I'm looking forward to finding new things to read and added a few books from this to my TBR pile.
I'm currently reading Avempartha by Michael Sullivan. He is a new author that I really enjoyed and I'm very exicted to read more in this series.
That's about all I can think of for now - if you have any recommendations let me know - I'm brand new to GoodReads and anxious to find new things to read.

Adam - welcome - if you liked Michael Sullivan, you may also enjoy Raymond E. Feist and perhaps, Dennis McKiernan, or (back in history) Fritz Lieber's work (there are multiple installments) Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, which is also about a thief/swordsman pair who have rousing adventures.

Welcome to the group, Jamie! You sound a lot like me when I join book groups. I'm up in northern California near the Oregon border. I used to live close to Oakland when I was going to school down there.
Hope you have fun in the group with us!
Hello - John Fortune here. I am a 40 male. I consume most of my books in audio format and use www.audible.com. I recently listened to Jim Butcher's Alera series and thought it was pretty great. I don't have an extensive list of fantasy books that I have read, but am enjoying them now more than ever. Some I remember reading are:
Dragon Bone Chair
Elfstones of Shannara
Hobbit
Wheel of Time book 1 only
Mistborn
I am currently listening to and enjoying the Way of Kings.
I look forward to chatting with all of you.
Hi everyone!!I'm Tiphaine, I'm french and I love fantasy, always had always will!
My favourite authors are Robin Hobb (Farseer Trilogy), Terry Goodkind, Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn), Maria V Snyder, David Edding, Raymond E Feist...
I will start very soon The Way of Shadows, first book by Brent Weeks I read, I hope it's good.
I'm very happy to join this group even if I really don't need any more books on my TBR shelf but I can't help it!
Thanks for reminding me about The Way of Shadows - I've had this on my radar for awhile now and just added it to GoodReads - I'm really getting a lot of good ideas about future readings from this site.
Hello. I am Nita, and have been lurking here for quite a while. I thought if maybe I introduced myself it would kick me into joining some discussions. Little bit about myself... I am a librarian living in South Dakota. Favorite fantasy authors so far include J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula Le Guin, Patrick Rothfuss, N.K. Jemisin, Jacqueline Carey, and Patricia McKillip. I have been reading a lot of urban fantasy and paranormal romance (please do not judge me too harshly on that fact ;D) the last few years, but been having the craving for more traditional fantasy lately. I know there are some great fantasy books and series that I have not read yet. Suggestions are always welcome!

Welcome, Nita, great list of authors.
Try Carol Berg and Guy Gavriel Kay and . Based on your list, both of those authors have 1) beautiful prose, 2) great depth of character, 3) solid, original story lines that deliver, and 5) a nice balance of light and dark, hope and redemption - also, no vampires, no Dark Lords/not coming of age quest or cookie cutter plotlines.
Also try Jennifer Roberson - her newest Karavans duology is excellent.

I recoomend Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series. It does have the coming of age element in it, but there is so much action and a really solid story line. I loved it.
Hey all I'm Aaron. I'm 18 and I love reading but fantasy has 2 be my fav genre... =]I'm reading Furies of Calderon, The Way of Shadows, and The Lost Hero (new Percy Jackson book, even though he's not actually in the book wahh =[ lol).
Open to suggestions...
Hey, I suppose I never introduced myself over here :)I'm 21 from the UK, always loved reading but I had such a long break (about 4 years is a long time at my age) that I have fallen behind on my reading! So I'm trying to catch up and, well, any recommendations I can pick up are great. I'm utilising the Amazon wishlist feature as a 'what to read next' when I run out. ^^ So even if I'm not buying, I'll at least add it there for later perusal.
Fantasy is my favourite genre but I'll read almost anything (not too fond of romance/crime/thriller style novels mind). My favourite writers (so far..) would have to be Tolkien, Pratchett, and working through Assassin's Apprentice at the moment, would have to say Robin Hobb might end up on that list along with Neil Gaiman in the near future :)
I'm open to recommendations (really, could use them!) and friend requests. *wave*

Hi, Hannah! Welcome to Fantasy Book Club. Have you checked out our 'Recommendations' folder? Also look at our bookshelf and you can find the books we've read in the past and also look at our discussions of them to see what they're about and how group members responded.
Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Have you checked out our 'Recommendations' folder? I have discovered to mixed feelings that I can spend so much time browsing on GR that I don't have time to actually READ books!
Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Ah well.... I have discovered to mixed feelings that I can spend so much time browsing on GR that I don't have time to actually READ books! "Too true! Though I try to set aside at least an hour before I go to sleep, so even if I finish something slowly, I still get chance to progress through the story without having a "what the hell just happened?" moment.
Hello all! My name is Carrie (or Care), I'm a 34 year young mom, wife, and entrepreneur. I live in Ontario, Canada and I have been a fan of fantasy for most of my life (starting with The Hobbit). I got addicted after starting the Dragonlance Chronicles when I was 16. I read a lot of Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms for years, with some Terry Brooks, Tad Williams, and L.E. Modesitt Jr.. Then about 14 years ago I read The Eye of the World and fell in love with the world Jordan created. Even all these years later, The Wheel of Time is still #1 in my long list of favourites. I also read a lot of Urban Fantasy and Young Adult fantasy. My favourite authors are Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, J.K. Rowling, Cassandra Clare, Rachel Caine, Jeaniene Frost, Ilona Andrews, Suzanne Collins, and many more.
Hi Mike. Yes, but I have only read the first two Dresden Files. They didn't really do much for me. I have so many books I want to read, if the series doesn't grab me, I won't usually finish it.
That proves we all have different taste I guess. While I'd agree that the second book Fool Moon may be the "weakest" I still rated it 5 stars... Just shows, to each their own. I'm a huge Dresden fan. How do you feel about Rob Thurman?
I don't think I have read him. For a couple years I have been reading a lot of UF and YA fantasy. Most of the UF I read is somewhat closer to PNR, but not so heavy on the romance. I have friends that love Dresden, but I just didn't connect to it. The next fantasy series I plan on starting is the Tairen Soul series. I have heard great things about it. I have already found a couple new series to add to my TBR list here, but I can't remember what they were, lol.
Haven't read those but I'm not into the romance angle much. I keep looking for good UF. I've read some of the Repairman Jack series and the Nightside series. I want to get to Green's Man with the Golden Torc soon also...just too many "To be reads" waiting...I'll look for other UF you've read, I'm always looking, thus my To Be Read pile is so large!
I have no will power. (LOL)
