How can we help as readers? Do we have to go to our books one by one to see the notice or can we just go to our bookshelves?

If you have access to editing information as a librarian, sure, you can go through your list and check each book. It's a big pain in the butt, though, if you've got a lot. It might be better if you were to alert authors if you notice his/her books with that warning sign at the top of the page.
I found two of my books marked like that, and I updated the information as required.
From what I heard, it looks like there's some kind of conflict between Goodreads and Amazon that can't be resolved for some reason.

Amazon has a lot of restrictions on how you can use data that's sourced from them. Currently, any book whose source came from Amazon cannot have a "Buy" link leading to another bookstore. Goodreads has decided that Amazon's policies are becoming too restricting and has made the decision to drop them as a source.
I got this alert at a list I'm on. Read it and follow instructions; otherwise, after the end of January, your book will disappear from Goodreads' database.
