January Read-a-thon: Progress and Reporting
Thanks, Ann. I wasn't even counting the pages and surprised myself when I added them up!Dee, isn't that cookbook great? Not only are the recipes good, but the comments that go with them are so funny. I just have to laugh at how the author pretends the characters are real and has them giving you advice on how to adapt or change the recipe!!

seriously - I adapt mine to gluten free (most of the time switching the flour and stuff out) and I quite often turn the cookies into cookie sheets because its easier that way!

Tracy wrote: "Wow Nadine! You're reading a book a day?"Not quite, one of my books was merely finished within the readathon and the others were quite fast reads, so I almost managed one per day, but last night I started an 800 pages book which I won't even be finishing within the readathon. My average per book was a bit over 2 days last year. But during the readathon I devoted a bit more time to reading. :-) Oh and two of the books were aimed at an adolescent age (although both with the grave topic of holocaust and concentration camps).
Page wise I am far behind some others though!

It has taken me some time, but I FINALLY finished my book for mini-challenge #3. It was called The Orphan Master's Son, and it does indeed shed light on what life is like in North Korea, which is a horrific place in which to exist. The absolute cruelty and horror of living under that dictatorship is almost impossible to imagine for us who live in freedom, but sadly it exists. It is hard to believe that humans can survive these conditions. It took me much longer than usual to read this book because of the subject matter, but I am glad that I took the challenge to read something that in many ways, was truly outside my comfort zone.
I hope to finish two more books before the end of the challenge tomorrow, but will see how much reading time I have the rest of the day.

Whoohoo, I am done with my readathon and think I did pretty well, I think last time I was in the 1.400 region, so my 1.600 are pretty cool. I read some really good stuff this time and it was fun again with you guys. :-)
@ Zakiya: I remember loving the movie a lot, when I saw it, but I remembered it a bit differently from what happened in the book. (Probably my bad memory, I do remember missing the first 10 or 15 minutes, maybe that's why it all seemed a bit differently to me now, while reading.I enjoyed the book. It was direct and honest although it was directed at an adolescent audience. Didn't spare the really tough moments.

Sorry Ann A I did not see this post earlier on your question of 1Q84. I don't think I am a huge fan of his writing. It is definitely unique and has a twist on a lot of things. But I am not sure if I don't feel like things are really meshes that well together. It may be that I am not fond of the narrators. Their voices make it easy for me to drift off and think about other things. This is just my opinion though.

since we started at noon PST last saturday, we now have about 19 hours left of the first read-a-thon for the year!!
who is going to try and fit in one last all-nighter? I know I am, with work being busy this week and out sick on thursday, I didn't get as much reading done as I hoped - but I have 2 books I want to finish up before this is over...one is my historical fiction that is 600 something odd pages long - i'm at 70% on the kindle right now (Tatiana and Alexander) and the other is my YA/Mystery/Horror based on a modern telling of Jack the Ripper (The Name of the Star)

Me, too, Dee. I would like to finish at least two more. Unfortunately (or not - my mother-in-law's birthday and she is the best M-I-L EVER!), I have to go away for the day early tomorrow morning, so I won't be able to post my final totals until I get home tomorrow evening :( Off to read more....
I was planning on doing an all nighter but I have to work tomorrow so that won't work. My job requires brain power and I would be brain dead if I stayed up all night. POOH! :(
Got a couple books done...Very proud of myself :)Started before Readathon:
Clockwork Prince (65% - ?)
Great Expectations (page 78 - ?)
Read Completely During Readathon:
Black Moon (54 pages)
Amber Moon (101 pages)
The Vampire's Assistant (241 pages)
Silver Moon (78 pages)
Started During Readathon, but Didn't Finish:
Incarceron (page 1 - ?)
I wish I could pull an all-nighter, but I'm determined to at least make the last day/night my best one!
i'm sure my all-nighter will be passed out by midnight...since i've been up since 4am...but i'm going to give it my damnest...lol!
Hopefully I'll be able to finish Clockwork Prince and read a bunch in Incarceron before 9AM....If not, well, oh well lol :) I feel like I've done some great reading this week!

I probably won't finish any more books by 10 am Saturday, so I'm posting what I've read for the read-a-thon. I read 4 books for this challenge. It's more than I thought I would, given that the Spring semester started this month.Finished:

Tracy, I think you can keep track however you want. The goal is just to challenge yourself to read as much as you can during the RAT week. I just happen to find it motivating to keep track of pages.
