Tracy, I think you can keep track however you want. The goal is just to challenge yourself to read as much as you can during the RAT week. I just happen to find it motivating to keep track of pages.

Nancy H | 561 comments Thanks, Ann. I wasn't even counting the pages and surprised myself when I added them up!

Dee, isn't that cookbook great? Not only are the recipes good, but the comments that go with them are so funny. I just have to laugh at how the author pretends the characters are real and has them giving you advice on how to adapt or change the recipe!!

seriously - I adapt mine to gluten free (most of the time switching the flour and stuff out) and I quite often turn the cookies into cookie sheets because its easier that way!

Nadine | 252 comments Tracy wrote: "Wow Nadine! You're reading a book a day?"

Not quite, one of my books was merely finished within the readathon and the others were quite fast reads, so I almost managed one per day, but last night I started an 800 pages book which I won't even be finishing within the readathon. My average per book was a bit over 2 days last year. But during the readathon I devoted a bit more time to reading. :-) Oh and two of the books were aimed at an adolescent age (although both with the grave topic of holocaust and concentration camps).
Page wise I am far behind some others though!

message 122: by Nancy H (new)

Nancy H | 561 comments It has taken me some time, but I FINALLY finished my book for mini-challenge #3. It was called The Orphan Master's Son, and it does indeed shed light on what life is like in North Korea, which is a horrific place in which to exist. The absolute cruelty and horror of living under that dictatorship is almost impossible to imagine for us who live in freedom, but sadly it exists. It is hard to believe that humans can survive these conditions.

It took me much longer than usual to read this book because of the subject matter, but I am glad that I took the challenge to read something that in many ways, was truly outside my comfort zone.

I hope to finish two more books before the end of the challenge tomorrow, but will see how much reading time I have the rest of the day.

I enjoyed the book. It was direct and honest although it was directed at an adolescent audience. Didn't spare the really tough moments.

Sorry Ann A I did not see this post earlier on your question of 1Q84. I don't think I am a huge fan of his writing. It is definitely unique and has a twist on a lot of things. But I am not sure if I don't feel like things are really meshes that well together. It may be that I am not fond of the narrators. Their voices make it easy for me to drift off and think about other things. This is just my opinion though.
