Please Introduce yourself here (January 2012 part 2)

Interesting bit of trivia I picked up from a wonderful Brit programme.
Seems no matter where you are in the UK you're never more than 72 miles from the coast. Think it is was 72 miles they said, anyway...
Hi Dana..It's lovely on here.

Thanks! I love parties too (who doesn't?). :)

I didn't know BBC had an American channel. Learn soemthing new everyday"
Hi Jud, I think it's just the "best" of the BBC. They run Top Gear, Graham Norton, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Being Human, Mistresses, and Gordon Ramsay's shows along with a bunch of specials. I'm sure we're missing out on plenty!

Dana, here's something to be careful of.

Hi Karl,
I mean English English. Like sometimes I'll be looking for the English equivalent of something Americans might say. That kind of thing.

Better not be though ;)

I feel like a fake British person. Never heard of Mistresses :S

Hi Geoff,
I know! I learned that back in college when I gave an English girl a ride to her aunt's home in Idaho, and after we'd been driving for seven hours, she couldn't believe that she still had another nine hours to go! She'd told me you could drive from the bottom of England to the top of Scotland in about 12 hours (if I'm remembering correctly). And that was when I realized how much larger the States were. I finally got a chance to visit England for a few days in my mid-twenties and I was still surprised how much ground we could cover in just an afternoon's drive. Someday I'm going to get back and see Ireland and Scotland too.

You've cracked me up. An hour and a half is nothing here!

Wow--only 72 miles? When I was kid growing up and reading about how Britain dominated the world and built its great empire, I always thought it must be much larger than it looked on the map!

Thanks, Louise! I love my name now, but I hated it when I was kid growing up because there were three girls named Dana in my class and also three boys named Dana (which is odd, because it's not a common name here--I rarely meet other Danas), and all the kids used to tease us about it. (You have a boy's name, you have a girl's name.) I was upset with my parents for a while because of that.

Thanks, DeeDee, Philip, Lynne, and Lorraine! :)

I used to be really into Stephen King but his latest works haven't been all that great if you ask me. Shame really.
I have a satire news blog if anyone fancies a giggle - http://michaelcargill.wordpress.com/
Currently it contains Justin Bieber's diary.
I am also a new author and my first few books are free. They are available here on Goodreads or from - http://www.smashwords.com/profile/vie...

Hi Mike, I'm DeeDee: nice to meet you!

Lily - oh you mean me! I usually get called Ginger or GL, you do seem to like being different... I had a look at the blog. Hehehe...

If he is, I don't want to know. That would be just too embarrassing.

Welcome Michael.

In all fairness he played the creepy bad-teen well.

I am Darren Sant. I'm an avid reader, reviewer and a writer of short fiction. It'll be nice getting to know you all.

Geoff, wind tunnel or not you're still gorgeous!

I'm always reminded on such occasions of the BeeGees album cover that showed them looking into the wind, and the HeeBeeGeeBee's version where they showed the same shot but each of the band members were holding hair dryers.

I know this is a Kindle group but I have the chance of a Sony PRS 505 Ebook Reader and was wondering what anyone thought about this eReader.

I think someone did mention a kindle on this group last year some time.
Now what did they say.....
Oh yes..
Has anyone cooked a kindle shaped cake

Not at all Julie. Just some of our members poking fun (not at you though) at the fact all threads in this forum eventually seem to get on to the subject of cake ;-).
I haven't heard any of our members mention they own one of the sony readers. I have seen a similar question posted over at the Amazon forums (link here http://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/kindle/...). If you pop over there and type sony into the search customer discussions you should be able to find more responses there to your question.
You are of course most welcome to hang out here with us regardless of whether or not you have a reader. We are a nice, if somewhat crazy bunch ;-).

I'm Dana Delamar, and I joined this group on the recommendation of my good friend, Kristine Cayne. She told me you were all a fun group! (I guess I missed out on a major party lately for the 1000th member.)
I LOVE books of all kinds, and I spend way too much money at Amazon, especially now that I have a Kindle.
I just released my first book and am currently revising the second, which has a main character who's English, so I'm sure from time to time I'll be asking some questions regarding the difference between American English and British English.
Aside from books, I love traveling and I spent too much time watching TV (I'm quite addicted to BBC America--currently watching the third season of Mistresses!).
