Am I the only person who re-reads the entire series when a new installment comes out?

Athalvard My friends and I have been having a debate on the subject of new releases; it started with Inheritance, but it quickly became a debate on new releases in general. Whenever a new book in a series comes out, I always re-read the already-released books so that I can refresh the details and prolong my enjoyment, and then I read the new installment. My whole family does this as well. However, my friends think that this is crazy, and have never done this before. Am I the only one who re-reads the old books before I move on to the newest release?

Monica wow your not crazy that's great because if you read alot of books you sometimes will forget what happen in a book that you might have read months ago. I definitely wouldn't do it if I forget I usually try to find a summary somewhere to remind me. I always have to do that with the Blue Blood series. But some books that r series will have a summary in the beginning of the books I really like authors who do that lol. But the most important thing about what u do is that it brings you joy and that is what books r suppose to do!

Athalvard That was my thinking exactly :D It just never occurred to me that my way of doing might not be the norm...

Shannon Yeah! Go rereading! I do it all the time; basically after a year I've forgotten a LOT so I always like to reread before the new one comes out. For inheritance, in fact, I started rereading Eragon sometime in October and got Inheritance from the library sometime in November. I was too busy however, so I ended up waiting to read Inheritance until about a week before its due date (because I insisted on rereading Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr first), and then I read all of Inheritance in about 4 days.

Lacey Yes, I always start back at the first book and start over. Right now I am rereading Brisingr so I can finish the Inheritance series.

Yes, I always do this. I like having the story fresh in my mind when I read the sequels. I also re-read books before seeing any movie based on them.

Megan I do that all the time! I did that for all the other books but with so many books I have been wanting to read I didn't reread them all before the last one which I wish I had just because I enjoy them so much

Benjamin Martin It probably depends on what kind of reader you are. My memory is suspect to say the least, so I enjoy re-reading my favorite books about once a year. This fits in perfectly when a new book comes out because it's generally been a year and gives me a great excuse to go back and enjoy the old ones. I've started using audio books to do this while running... a great excuse to stay in shape.

TomyAllen I almost always do but particularly for this series since it took sooo long to publish the next one.

Amy I used to, but this series was too long and not written well enough to warrant the time. So I used wiki and that worked out great!

Chris i do that, especially when i havent read the series in a couple months

Kristi Lynn I do, it makes it fresh and exciting.

Tatiana I do that too, to refresh my memory about what happened in the books before.

Ben B yeah i would do that exept i lost the first and third book so it would be a huge wate of time to just read the second

Matt Hageman If I had the time I would re-read the series but I usually don't.

Christian I have to. There are just too many story lines that are going on over the arc of the book which I can't remember. The books come out so far apart, so I go back and read them all over.

Aye. I would get confused if I didn't and miss some crucial stuff. :P

Badgerlord I usually only read the previous book, as I don't tend to plan that far ahead. I don't read the entire series again.

LadyStyx I always reread the entire series before reading a new release. Always have. If I don't, I tend to forget something important that's needed to know in the new book!

Austin Coglianese I'm a fellow re-reader! I've always reread previous books in a series before the new one was released, especially the Harry Potter series, Alex Rider series, and Inheritance series. Next on the list to reread is Department 19 by Will Hill before the new book (Department 19: The Rising) comes out in August.
