I just finished reading Royal Harlot: A Novel of the Countess Castlemaine and King Charles II and really enjoyed it.Set in the Regin of King Charles II and his mistress Barbara Villers.I would classify it as a "Historical-Romance-Fiction,my review is there.

I'm reading House by the Fjord by Rosalind Laker, but it's set in Norway and not the deep south.

Is it on your kindle? Dont they sometimes mess around & edit stuff on books I heard? Oh well if not..I guess every author has to have a "baddie-book".

I am currently reading Diane Wylie's "Secrets and Sacrifices". A little slow in the beginning but very well written. The character's are fighting for Confederacy. They endure a lot of hardship and grow stronger for it. You can tell Ms.Wylie did a lot of research as the story is historical accurate. The is a great read and I would recommend it. Enjoy!

Yep, the Rosalind Laker. I think it's a newer one, got via library loan on kindle. Meh.

I'm reading And One Wore Gray by Heather Graham. Good, but it isn't rocking my world. The Big Misunderstanding is annoying as all get out, as well as the lack of communication. I'm not warming up to the H/h like I should either. Bah!

I think if you would have started with "One Wore Blue" then things might have fallen into place better for you. I did the same thing and after I finished all of them, things looked a lot brighter.

Your right Sandy..they do fall into place better read in order...but Im one of those who just has to read a trilogy/series in order,or I feel like I missed something:)

I have read One Wore Blue. I think it's the big misunderstanding getting to me, I want to bang their heads together and talk to each other. Oh well, we can't always like the same books all the time.

I read these sooooo long ago,so if I re-read III not like the "big-misunderstanding" stuff myself. But..maybe as we get older we dont have the patience for this do we? (least I dont) :D

I just finished "Secrets and Sacrifices" by Diane Wylie. It is very well written and follows historical battles well. I enjoyed reading it and felt for the characters in it. I just started another book by Ms. Wylie, " Jenny's Passion".

I haven't stopped by in ages! I wanted to see what you all are reading these days. Anyone find something that will knock my socks off? Like everyone else and their grandmother, I had to check out Fifty Shades of Grey. I enjoyed it but not as much as I hoped. Can't even get through the second one. What I'm missing is a good ol' southern based historical bodice ripper!

I have been reading Gilbert Morris's "House of Winslow" book. I started with the stories set in the Civil War period and then back tracked some. These are stories of several family members and very good book. I love these them but I think I am ready for more in my time period.

Sometimes reading too much of a certain time period can do that for sure Sandy,I always have to mix it up.

Do you all remember the book The Proud Breed by Celeste De Blasis (1978). That has been one of my all-time favorite romance novels. I went on Amazon and bought a hard copy of the book about a year ago. I'm thinking about reading it again. I want to figure out what made me love that book so much and see if that feeling still holds to this day.

I still have the HC and the paperback..loved that book.

The Proud Breed is awesome. It holds a place of honor on my keeper shelf.

I'm reading Arrow to the Heart by Jennifer Blake. One of her older ones now on Kindle. And last time I looked, still free. I suspect the price drop is going up very soon.

Just finished Edge of Time by Melissa Lynne Blue, it's a time travel.

Also read Love & War by Patricia Hagan which is quite gritty, the heroine Kitty goes through a lot & is raped brutally quite a few times (not by the hero) he makes her want him (against her wishes - but oh that traiterous body) the next book The Raging Hearts Kitty & Travis spend most of the book apart she is again raped (i don't know how she didn't suffer internal injuries & die the amount of times she was butally raped!!!
I started to read the 3rd book up to chapter 3 then thought nah i need a break from Kitty & Travis.

Yes..Patricia Hagan's Love & War series,you really need to be in the right frame of mind to read..and be prepared ..for almost anything:)

I am currently reading "Iron Branch: A Civil War Tale of a Woman In-Between" by Kelby Ouchley . This is a very slow, slow moving story set during the Civil War, but it is about a young Indian girl that was raised by a white family in the deep south. She falls in love with a young man that went to fight as many do. This story is hard to follow, but it has keep my attention.

Sandi, I am not so sure this book is part of the River series. However, this story continues with "The Wind Along the River" per a notation at the end of "The River Between".

The River Between was OK. I wouldn't give it high praises, but it did keep my interested. I feel this story if better suited to for possibly someone in their teenage years.

It is written pre Civil War, as it was mentioned within the story line about secession. This entire story is about a young woman that falls in love with someone her parents feels is beneath her social stature. They try to arrange her marriage to a distant cousin, but she manages to hold her ground and then vows not to marry at all. This young woman has strong religious convictions and she holds onto that for her strength. I won't give away the ending though. There are a few twists and turns in this story to keep your interest I think.

I forgot to mention another book I just finished, "Deadly Night" by Heather Graham.

This story begins during the Civil War, but fast forward it to present day. It's a thriller set in the south that includes a family's old plantation house outside of New Orleans. One of the main characters is a young woman that owns a unusual shop in the quarters and she, along with an employee, does tarot card readings. The other main characters is a former FBI agent, who formed his own private investigation firm, along with his 2 brothers(both former police officers). There seems to be a serial killer lose in New Orleans that preys on young women. Can the killer be found out and stopped before he kills again? I won't give any more clues to this story. It appears that there are 2 more books after this one that follow the 2 brothers of the PI firm.

As always, Ms. Graham has never failed to keep my attention with any of her stories. Even though this was not completely set during our set historical time period, this was a good books full of suspense.

Yes she does have great Romantic suspense. Does this one "flash back" using the Civil War time period for historical backdrop for the story?

Yes, that is how she introduces the older characters in this story.

I am currently reading "Edge of Time" by Melissa Lynne Blue. Edge of Time. I just posted the trilogy synopsis for this book and the 2 additional in the Langston Brother series. This author is very easy to follow and I am enjoying this book.

I just finished "Crossed", on the #2 book, then the last, "Reached". A trilogy, A distonion book. Well worth the read.

Yes Tracyk is right Sandy,"Love and War by Patricia Hagen is gritty and all sorts of other "stuff" that happens. So you really do need to be in the right frame of mind for her books. I personally like a nice balance in my read of this time period I like the history/war//but not that it overtakes the story or the characters. And of course has to have some romance:)

My latest review is on Edge of Time by Melissa Lynne Blue. A book that will definitely keep your attention and a special twist just for you Sandi, it has a time travel portal. This book was actually a free one from Amazon.

This book is a great romance set during the 1860's with a little twist. The main character is transported from 2012 to 1863, in Charleston and in the height of the Civil War. As she is transport back, she lands (literately) on her soul mate. Marissa McCafferty is an registered nurse, her equal in the 1860's would be considered a doctor. Capt. Craig Langston, her soul mate is a doctor that is stationed at a hospital in Charleston. Marissa is assisted in her new world by Genie, who just happened to have been transported to the same location 20 yrs. before Marissa. Of course there is obstacles along Marissa's journey by the name of Kristen Jamison. This is a good southern romance that will keep you wanting more and wondering what will happen next. I really enjoyed this book and plan to read the sequels, Cadence and 11th Hour Rose.

Linda D, did you like Crossed? Gilbert Morris is one of my favorite authors and I wish he would write more stories for this time period.
